Rate this book
WHAT A DRAGON SHOULD KNOW--now enhanced with the story that started it all from EVERLASTING BAD BOYS by G.A.’s doppelganger—and author of the Pride series—Shelly Laurenston! You’ll also find exclusive excerpts from the newest Dragon book coming in September, LAST DRAGON STANDING, along with an excerpt from BELONG TO THE NIGHT, and a brand new original interview with the author herself! Lovers of Dragons and Beasts of all kinds won’t be able to get enough!

What a Dragon Should Know

Only for those I love would I traipse into the merciless Northlands to risk life, limb, and my exquisite beauty. But do they appreciate it? Do they say, “Gwenvael the Handsome, you are the best among us—the most loved of all dragons?” No! For centuries my family has refused to acknowledge my magnificence as well as my innate humility. Yet for them, and because I am so chivalrous, I will brave the worst this land has to offer.

So here I stand, waiting to broker an alliance with the one the Northlanders call The Beast. A being so fearful, the greatest warriors will only whisper its name. Yet I, Gwenvael, will courageously face down this terrifying…woman? It turns out the Beast, a.k.a. Dagmar Reinholdt, is a woman—one with steel-gray eyes and a shocking disregard for my good looks. Beneath her plain robes and prim spectacles lies a sensual creature waiting to be unleashed. Who better than a dragon to thaw out that icy demeanor?

And who better than a beast to finally tame a mighty dragon’s heart?

Last Dragon Standing

I know what they see when they look at me. The charming, soft-spoken dragoness bred from the most powerful of royal bloodlines. A disguise stronger than any battle shield that allows me to keep all suitors at tail’s length. A technique that’s worked until him. Until Ragnar the Cunning, handsome barbarian warlord and warrior mage from the desolate Northlands. Unlike those who’ve come before him, he does not simply submit to my astounding charm and devastating smile. Instead, he dismisses me as vapid, useless and, to my great annoyance, rather stupid!

Yet I’ll allow no male to dismiss me. Soon he’ll learn my worth, my many skills, and the strength of my will. For this one challenges me enough to make me want to ruthlessly taunt him, tease him and, finally, when the trap is set, bring him to his knees.

This is my first book for my new Kindletoy. I've read What a Dragon Should Know before but I couldn't resist - especially since this version comes with the bonus short (with the grandparent's story) originally published in Everlasting Badboys.

Even though What A Dragon Should Know was a reread for me - and I very very rarely reread - it was still quite fun. I loved how the seemingly vapid Gwenvael was so scheming and manipulative under all of that self indulgent vanity. He and the scarily smart - and always plotting - Dagmar were just too funny together.

Even though Gwenvael and Dagmar are the focus, one thing that I still love about this book on the second go round, is in addition to her laugh out loud humor author Aiken continues using the characters that she's developed in previous book and keeps adding more to her wacky and dysfunctional dragon clan.

So plots, schemes, steamy stuff (with a bit of crass language) and some really tearful moments too. This was definitely worth buying again and well worth adding to my very small collection of 'keepers'.

This third book in G.A. Aiken's Dragon Kin series is just what I've come to expect from reading the first two; hilarious and sharp dialogue, dragons unlike you've ever heard of before and some steamy and hot romance.

The main story concerns how the two main leads; Gwenvael the Gold and Dagmar realising that they are perfect for each other even though they got off to a rather shaky start when Gwenvael's assumption about the 'Beast' couldn't be more wrong.

This book is actually different to the first two for several reasons.

Not only does the cast of characters include those introduced in the first two books, because some of the focus is now in the Northlands where Dagmar lives, her family and the Lightnings, also known as the Horde dragons are also introduced alongside even more of Fearghus' family.

There is also an overriding sense of sadness for a large part of the book and when what is sensed actually happens, it is heart breaking. That's not to say it's all doom and gloom. In fact, far from it as this book is one that is laugh out loud funny.

Whilst the first two books were fairly erotic throughout, this isn't, largely because of the misunderstanding already mentioned previously.

But none of these differences detract from what is an excellent addition to what is a great series.

Not only that, there's more.

This 'super edition' also includes an extra jewel.

Where Dragon Actually included a short story of how Fearghus' mother and father; Rhiannon and Bercelek met and came to be together, this volume contains the story 'Can't Get Enough' from the Everlasting Bad Boys anthology which tells of how Fearghus' paternal grandparents; Ailean and Shalin fell in love.

There is also an excerpt from the next book in the series; Last Dragon Standing and a short question and answer session with the author.

Overall, a brilliant story that is only enhanced with the extras.

This series is great for unconventional women, although Gwenvael is quite a bit outside the norm as well.

What I enjoyed:
* Gwenvael. I had already liked him from his brothers' books, but this just cemented it. You learn he does have a brain and is quite wily.
* Dagmar. She is very devious and she loves dogs. She thought she was stuck in her father's lands but makes the most of the opportunity given her.
* I love how both Dagmar and Gwenvael have a certain thing they say when startled from sleep - it tells much of their character.
* Lots of Gwenvael's family as Annwyl is pregnant and they are all gathered to help protect.
* I'm glad there was the epilogue. It was perfect and I was wondering.

What could have been better:
* I was a bit spoiled as I had read something recently about people crying while reading this book, which helped prepare me for what was coming,
* The bit with Ragnar and his father seemed off.

I bought What A Dragon Should Know SUPER Edition [released for Amazon Kindle 15Aug2010] which as well as Gwenvael and Dagmar's story also in extras at the end it has Ailean and Shalin's story [Bercelak's parents/Gwenvael's grandparents] - which is brillant/great/enjoyable as well.
Hard to believe the Author can continue to come up with characters you fall in love with.
Once again these story's are fun, adventurous/exciting story with witty dialogue that keeps you interested through whole book.
LOVED IT :)) ps. recommend you read series in order - not essential but you'll enjoy it more that way.

This was another good installment in Aiken's Drgaon Kin series. Gwenvaal is such a fun character and I liked Dagmar too. The only negative is that I wished the story had focused more on Gwenvaal and Dagmar. Unlike the previous books, this story often shifted focus to plots involving other characters. I felt like it took away from Gwenvaal and Dagmar's romance a bit as I would've liked to have read more about them. Still, this was a fun read. Whenever I need a lighthearted romance with some humor, I always reach for one of these books. The short story at the end about Ailean and Shalin was great too. I loved reading about how those two came together.

Anything by GA Aiken is a keeper as far as Im concerned. Brilliant as always. Hilarious, laugh out loud reading and you love the characters and their flaws. Her dragon kin series is one to read and reread again and again.
