Sunita Apte is a children's book author living in Brooklyn, New York, with fellow writer Michael Sandler and their two children, Laszlo and Asha. When she's not writing books for kids, she likes to cook and travel the world.
Really good for a potentially dry subject. Loved all the photos. This book was definitely helpful for my girls learning about the cradle of civilization. I caught my 5 year old chanting as she was walking through the house, "MesopoTAMia, MesopoTAMia!"
This tiny little book is packed with lots of amazing facts about Mesopotamia. In addition to the typical nonfiction text features you'd expect, it has some commentary inserted on each page that makes you smile or gives you additional insight about the facts. I thought that was something that kept me reading. This book was not on a 6th graders level...better for a younger reader. But the information was easy to understand and might be a good starter.
I know nothing about Mesopotamia. Literally nothing. This book gave me a good starting point for basic information, as well as a few cool details and stories. Highly readable, for a school library book.
Mesopotamia The book Mesopotamia is written by Sunita Apte, Mesopotamia was a region that had “The world’s first large towns and cities”(Apte 7).The groups of people that lived there made the first civilizations, Mesopotamia people were the first ones to master farming, to use written languages, use of wheels, board games, and laws.I learned that there were 282 laws in Hammurabi’s code and the last use of cuneiform was the first-century C.E.In the book Mesopotamia, there are facts and cool information about Mesopotamia's civilizations.
I know that this book is nonfiction because it is an informative book, this book gives information about Mesopotamia’s history and civilizations. The author wrote this book because she was interested in faraway lands and ancient cultures, “Her first taste of faraway lands and ancient cultures led to a lifelong interest in other places.”(Apte “About the Author” section).I know this because she wrote it on the last page of the book.Five facts I learned about this book are the length of the Tigris River is 1,900 km, the number of works in Ashurbanipal’s library is more than 20,000, there are about 120 lions on the walls outside of the Ishtar Gate, Mesopotamia people were the first ones to master farming, to use written languages, use of wheels, board games, and laws, and there are more than 10,000 archaeological sites in Iraq.Readers could not only learn about Mesopotamia but also about Iraq.
My favorite part of the story is when the book talked about ancient games because I like video and board games, the game was named “Royal Game of Ur” and was the oldest board game ever found in the world.I didn’t have any least favorite part, and no I wouldn’t read another novel written by this author because I would like to change.I would recommend this book to all students who like ancient cultures.
This is a short, but interesting book about the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia. There are several short topics covered and nearly 5000 years are covered. There are a lot of big, colorful illustrations and enough details to provide a lot of information without being overly detailed or boring. I thought it was a very interesting book and we really enjoyed reading it together.
