The Secret Revealed. The Neuropsychology of Self-Discipline is a self-paced audio program that consists of 10 audio sessions and a digital study guide. It is based on research conducted by author Steve DeVore and Dr. Karl Pribram at the Stanford University Neuropsychological Research Laboratories. He studied over 100 of history's greatest achievers (see The World's 100 Greatest People Audio Collection) and identified the characteristics they had in common, From these characteristics he distilled a powerful formula for self-motivation— the secret of lasting success.

I first came across this audiobook when listening to Brian Tracy's "No Excuses" on YouTube. I was interested, so I clicked on it. Boy, was it worth it! This audiobook is worth its weight in gold. The Neuropsychology of Self-Discipline gives a step-by-step account of how to become a self-disciplined person and achieve all that's possible for you.
What's so great about this book is that it assumes you are a blank slate and are starting from the ground up. If a person who was broke and in debt listened to this, they would have a full program on how to achieve everything they want and more. They wouldn't have to read any more books on success literature to get the whole picture - that's how complete this thing is.
It tells you what makes a person "self disciplined", how to become one yourself, how to manage time, focus, and create a master plan for your life that includes micro and macro purposes.
I didn't have the workbook guide, but I followed along and I took careful notes in my journal and completed the individual exercises.
Inspirational, motivational, and instructional, I definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone who wants to achieve all that's possible for them. How awesome it is to live in a time where information like this is shared on YouTube.
This recording is a treasure trove and possibly life changing. (I've been wanting to call something a treasure trove for some time and I'm glad I finally found something that fits. Also, I can't say if it is life changing for sure because only time will tell that.) My favorite thing I learned is that Self Discipline is a learned skill. The book has so many insights and examples and research. I will definitely listen to it again. (Also, I know how to get the recording for free if you want it, let me know!)
Life changing step-by-step guide on how to become self-disciplined. I downloaded the workbook as well and the exercises train you to start doing the things that need to be done to find your purpose in life. Before I listened to this audio I had many goals and dreams but halfway through the audio I was able to narrow the list down and find my macro goal.
This book has you doing exercises from writing your life biography to recording yourself and listening to your own voice daily. Honestly I thought some of the activities were ridiculous initially, but once you're finished you see how powerful the exercises were and how much of a difference it can really make. Let this be your first test in self-discipline. Listen to the audio on youtube and download the workbook on google. If you apply what you learned in the workbook and audio I swear you'll start doing things differently.
Think of all the great reasons of why you are giving up so much to go after goal. Rekindl and refuel your goals and look at your goals everyday.
Confirm in your heart and mind that you can do anything I set my mind to . No matter how hard it takes and will achieve my goal. I can achieve anything I set my mind to nothing is impossible for me to achieve if I want it. No matter how hard it takes how difficult and how long - I can and will reach my goal. Everything starts with a single step. A journey of 1000 miles starts with single step
Set-backs will occur and failures. but it is a lesson to be learned. When you learn from a failure, it'll make you smarter and stronger. Don’t ignore problems. Meet them squarely, it is at the heart of discipline and achievement - it strengthen character. Those things that hurt, instruct.
Look for creative solution take different paths, but don’t quit. A failure is someone who doesn’t learn from his mistake.
Turn your work into fun.
If you have a problem, study it from all angle.
Every problem has a solution.
I never quit, no matter what!
Success breeds success.
Immediate gratification comes with a longterm price tag
This was an audiobook and so if i were to rely alone on just listening and not working with the accompanied workbook then this will come across as just another motivational self help book. But if used with the hardcopy judiciously then it should serve the purpose of re-engineering our thinking and doing process. I intend revisit this book as many times as I deem fit.
This audiobook made me realize that most of the ideas and the way I thought of certain things in my life until I heard the audiobook was just wishful thinking. It really opened up my mind and helped me distinguish thinking big and wishful thinking.
Lots of the reviews have covered the main points of this book so no need to rewrite them. Last year I participate in a free course offered by an x Google employee, the course was called Leader Path and she had managed to compressed this program in an easy, 4 steps action plan. I guess many others have used this to create variations of self-improvement programs but I here we have found a 20-century summary. Im saying this because I believe that even this book is somehow a modern copy of an older book, so every century we have a different version of a very old idea that spreads into special coaching programs by brunching out.
This book had me raring to go! The exercises and activities it includes are extremely helpful for figuring out goals and setting a course of action. Definitely worth reading and re-reading.
Self-discipline is the ability to set a long-term goal and work toward it until it is achieved no matter how long it takes or how difficult it is.
Self-discipline is the ability to overcome the desire for instant gratification and to acquire the mindset of delayed gratification or patience in the achievement of your long-term goals. Self-discipline is the master key to all human achievement. Anything worthwhile achieving and has lasting value takes time, skill and self-motivated effort.
It's never to late to learn self-discipline. This course is for you if you still have dreams you want to achieve and is an ideal resource to teach your children and grandchildren early in their lives to develop the vital skill and ability of delayed gratification.
The book shows you how to conquer your own life. It shows how, by using planning at the micro and macro levels, you can achieve goals that at first seem out of reach.

Thankfully (actually: thank God) I am immune now to the words: success, successful. To earthly affairs, anyway. I stopped to think I CAN DO and start to rely on a higher power from God. And collect eternal graatifications, not earthly. I started to read this book intrigue by the fact, that this is about neuropsychology. But is has little to do with brain work, more with motivation.
Very easy to follow and helpful tips. Didn't really find out anything new I didn't know, but it's helpful, that it's all packed in one semi-short audio-book. I didn't have the exercise book, but I don't think you need it - you can follow the exercises easily. If you're looking for a pro-active book to read to up your motivation, this would definitely be helpful.
It's a book to help you think through your own biases and habits regarding discipline. It wasn't really my cup of tea but it wasn't a bad book either. Very practical and helps you think through some of your longer-term decisions.
I stumbled across this book in YouTube, because it's been a while since I actually finished and the feeling of finishing just feels gratifying and I'm glad this is the first book that I read in a while, I specifically have chosen this book as I have this goal to achieve and sometimes I have self-doubt and lack motivation to action and succeed that goal. I 'metaphorically' listened to this audio book in one go because I had pretty much nothing to do and I was sad, so I needed this to boost my confidence, but after finishing this audio book, I've learnt a lot, more than I have learnt in school [oops].
What I've learnt from this, is to; have the right mindset (no point of setting a goal, and having this belief that you cannot do it, then eventually you may not have accomplished it due to having a fixed mindset), taking sacrifices, find enjoyment in achieving your goal, be persistent and have perseverance, it takes patience to achieve your goal (the people who want instant gratification are the ones who will fail in life, success doesn't happen overnight, it requires time: hours, days, weeks, months or even years.), don't blame people (to elaborate, solely because you haven't understood a concept from a lesson, doesn't mean that your teacher is responsible for this, you have the power to change things, and if you do not understand it, go home and learn it in your own pace - it's not that difficult.)..
All you have to do is believe in yourself, you're the one who can make things happen, not others.
“ self-discipline is the master key to success.” it can be learned and converted into a habit. Reading this book help to achieve your goals day by day, month by month and year by year. Picture of highly discipline role model and write down your weakness and strength.
Ten quality of highly achievers: Have a model of discipline, achiever and motivator. Also, have opposite person who did not achieve anything. Alexandra the great is a great discipline role model. 1. Strong well define sense of purpose 2. Using positive role model or mentors who inspire you from his/her examples 3. Strength of his/her imagination. Use sensory vision is important. John F. Kennedy as a high discipline person said:”Some men see things as they are and they ask why. I see things as they could be and ask why not” 4. A positive sensory orientation and vivid imagination to set their achievements. They expect succeed rather than fail 5. They have deep root believe to achieve. they are measurably self assured 6. They have ability to plan and organize. They could break down to manageable steps and priorities for most important accomplishments 7. They know how and when to require essential knowledge and skills. They aren’t intimidated by the thought of learning new. 8. They have patient 9. They persevere. They stubborn. They never give up. 10. They work as pleasure. The self-discipline work is their fun, and they enjoy it. The power behind characteristic is important. “Work and pleasure is phenomenal”. Having the road map is not enough.
I wanted to write a little write up specifically about this book because it is so perfectly encapsulates the genre, and it's limitations. Not because the advice it gives isn't sound (all books of such nature revolve around a generic and an indefinable, surface-level analysis of willpower, and an explanation of how dedication, hard work and doing things gets things done ((duh)) ), but because it inevitably ends dis-acknowledging racism, sexism and other institutional barriers that perpetually prop up and hold people down. Despite the books attemps to at least acknowledge women might face extra-difficulties towards their goals, they always frame it as an exclusively "spiritual" oppression. And this is where all the analysis must stop, by necessity, because the acknowledgement that all oppression is not primarily spiritual, but material, with *actual* consequences, and actively placing limitations on your free time, capacity, and energy, serves as a rebuke to the entire world order the book tries to create. It is rather ironic, because to write the book in this way, goes precisely against the principles of "doing things right", which the book rightly acknowledges as the proper way to do anything.
It was really helpful to listen to this whilst commuting to and back from work. Although I have just started to get into the self help genre, I would say this particular book was quite unique. Apart from being a bit old, it still had really good ideas and wisdom to pass on to anyone trying to achieve success.
Each section was well organized and explained in depth using research findings of time, along with easy to understand examples. Although sometimes getting deep into the science and would need to have a repeated and focused session in order to properly get the information through. Not something to listen to casually. At least not all the time.
I feel I did not get the full value out of this as there was a proper program associated with this book, like exercises in a text book that you need to complete. Such breaks in most of the later chapters also broke the immersion as well. However, I cannot complain since this resource is free on YouTube. Be advised that it may be titled incorrectly, with the author Ray Clear instead.
Overall it has been a good resource and I will be needing to spend another session in reviewing some of the audio. It will not take long either as the total listening time does not exceed four hours.
This audio program will help you re-define your definition of self discipline. That is it's power. You will learn to see self discipline as your most valuable and joyful asset in life, rather than lament that you do not have it. Once a concept becomes clear, and and immovably planted in your mind through practice, it is then a part of who you are. I highly recommend it for anyone who desires to gain more control over their choice of direction they wish to take their life in - whether over the course of many years, or just the direction of the day. You will learn in this program that really, there is no difference.
My #300 self-improvement book. Was searching for a really good book to be my #300 book. I could not really find one but suddenly thought that I am still lacking discipline so I might as well read this.
This book can be quite repetitive and also, there are some parts which you will find are rather common sense and fluffy.
However, surprisingly, this book also give me some clarity on visualisation, planning and time scheduling in little subtle ways. I think it's pretty good but only if you pay very close attention to the words and applied them.
If self-discipline is so important, why doesn't everyone have it? Unfortunately, we live in a quick-fix society, where old fashioned effort is not appreciated. Nearly everybody wants to be an overnight success. Everybody wants instant gratification through material things. And then the same people wonder why they're not getting anywhere. The truth is, without paying the price, and without making an effort, most people will fail at what they set out to do.
This book was very helpful for me to not only become disciplined but to stay disciplined. This book pretty much guided me through building a habit of being disciplined to achieve my goals in life. I really would recommend anyone to read this.
Already read the book via audiobook and achievement success as well as the self discipline can be the determining factor to achieve the goals you set to have. How do you want to take over the world? One step at the time.
Life changing! A step-by-step blueprint with an actual "homework" study/practice guide to follow on how to achieve anything you want. (I personally think discipline is the KEY to anything you want to get in life). I need to find the actually paperback version for my personal library now.
Heard this through audiobook version via youtube. It was very informative and inspirational listening to it on my morning drives. It's a reminder that you still can make progress at any point in your life.
