Jump on board the pirate ship and sail across the deep blue sea. You'll have all kinds of adventures with this b and of buccaneers while singing along to the catchy song!
There are lots of fun facts about famous ships and pirates, too.
Here's a pirate song to rival 'Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest' from 'Treasure Island' and what's more this book has a CD along with it so that readers can sing along!
Oscar Seaworthy (really? - if so an appropriate name) presents a tale of pirates who lived life as in their song, 'Oh we go this way, that way/port side, starboard/over the deep blue sea'. And the youngster who 'jumped on board a pirate ship' had some rollicking good times with them.
The wind blew them off course, they encountered a violent storm, the youngster was the 'man overboard' (but was rescued), they discovered a wreck, they uncovered a hoard of gold on the ship, and through it all they were fearless. So fearless that the youngster declared, 'Oh, the pirate's life is full of fun, The pirate's life for me!'
And all the fun is accompanied by Debbie Harter's glorious, vibrant illustrations. And after the book is read, there can always be a sing-song for all the family!
Another great Barefoot Books collaboration with Debbie Harter. I love her illustrations. The song is a little repetitive, but Asher loves it and was able to memorize the chorus in a week(2.5years old) - that's how much we listened to it. At the end they have a page showing all the different parts of a pirate boat, different kinds of pirate boats, pirate history from around the world and the most famous pirates of all times. Asher loves it all!
I am so conflicted about books that come with music that you're supposed to sing. I always feel rushed through, and there's no opportunity to stop and have conversations with the kids. I did like that this book comes with a CD that has someone singing the words, and a karaoke version that you can just sing over in story time. It's a little long, and a little repetitive (it's kind of an endurance test). Not a bad story time book, but not a great one either.
Meh. Cute drawings, but six out of eight lines on each page were the same over and over. Maybe very young children who like rhythm and repetition will like this, but I think my four-year-old niece is probably too old for this. The pirate facts at the end seem aimed at an incongruously aged reader.
To say I’ve read this book us an understatement. I probably read and sing it to my students at least 5 times a week. I teach at a special needs pre-school and this book has been amazing. In fact, all of the Barefoot books have been an amazing addition to our music classes
The books are beautifully illustrated and the music is well produced and fun to sing, even for adults! I recommend this book for any young class for an engaging and enjoyable music singalong time. You’ll have trouble getting the song out of your head, in a good way of course.
A G-rated pirate picture book (because not all of them are). Super Simple Songs does a version of this called "Over the Deep Blue Sea." I sing these lyrics with that pacing and some embellishments of my own, rather than the version on the CD which comes with this book.
This is the first book I read with my Turkish host family's children; they're obsessed with pirates. The rhymes are good and the pictures vibrant. Good diagram and information at the back.
Cute book, the sing-alongs on YouTube for these book are great. They've become campfire song of sorts that everyone in my family knows and signs along.
The rhymes were awkward and the repetition feels like it's for filler rather than emphasis. I did like the appendix at the back, with the information on pirate ships and on some notable pirates.
I saw this book in a library in England made my boss buy it for our library. The pictures are cute, but ours came with a CD. You must watch it and then get the song in you head. This is a fun one full of life and if I even think about the words I will start singing them and never get them out of my head so....signing off will I still can...
After a fun song-story about pirates finding treasure, the book explains the parts of a ship, different types of ships, pirates around the world, and talks about some famous pirates, including Grace O'Malley and Anne Bonny. There's also sheet music at the back for the pirate song that repeats throughout the book. (It also comes with a CD.)
I just used the song version of this book in my storytime but if you read it, make sure to SING! It's a very funny song about the boat going this way, that way, forward and backward, and the kids can act it out with you. At the library we have the book with a CD inside so you can learn the tune too.
We love singing this... I love singing this... I was singing this long after my kiddo put it down! There is so much more to this book than meets the eye! It's hard to find a book that both my pre-schooler and 2nd grader like, but between the music, fun illustrations, and super facts at the back - all three of us were really happy with this one!
Another fantastic Barefoot Books publication, with one of my favourite songs - children request this again and again both as a song and as a story. The cheerful, colourful illustrations tell the story of a pirate voyage fraught with adventure but ending in finding treasure. Great fun! You can enjoy singing along here:
Book was annoying and repetitive. Each page text was exactly the same except for the first sentence (around seven words). The only interesting part was the information about pirates and ships at the end.
A nice little book with good rhythm. I'm afraid that I didn't have the cd when I read this book to the children so I found that it was nice and easy to make up your own tune to it that was fitting.
