Now that Keiichi and the goddess in his life are the hot item on campus, they find themselves constantly putting out fires! First, to raise money for the N.I.T. Motor Club, they get roped into posing nude together for a life drawing class - even though, as Keiichi's sister correctly guesses, they haven't even kissed yet! Then his "buddies" in the club stake Bell-chan as the wager in a funnybike race - but Keiichi has trouble seeing the humor when it starts coming apart at high speed! After all this, Keiichi just wants to relax and watch some home videos... except this video introduces (literally) a second goddess into his life - Belldandy's "sophisticated" older sister, Urd!
Kōsuke Fujishima (藤島康介, born July 7, 1964) is a Japanese manga artist.
Born in Chiba, Japan, he first came to public attention as an editor of Puff magazine, his first job after completing high school. Fujishima originally intended to be a draftsman, but took the editorial role after failing to get a drafting apprenticeship. He later became assistant to manga artist Tatsuya Egawa in the production of the Making Be Free! manga, and in 1986 began his first original manga series You're Under Arrest. His second manga series Oh My Goddess!, also translated as Ah! My Goddess, is extremely popular and has made Fujishima a household name in Japan. In addition, he is also well known as the character designer for several games in the Tales RPG video game series and Sakura Wars.
He is known for his love of automobiles and motorcycles, and several of his series and their characters reflect this, such as in éX-Driver and Oh My Goddess!.
If you read my review about the TPB 555-Goddess, you may remember that I explained that that TPB was published with mistakes in translation and also omiting several scenes, well, this second volume now corrected is a proof that now the things are okay, since to be able to fix the mess done in the now out-of-print wrong TPB was needed three new TPBs. This, it's the second of those now corrected TPBs.
The first TPB was Wrong Number.
Here, on this second volume of Oh My Goddess!, the excitement continues, more recurring characters appear AND by the end of the volume gets in scene, Urd, the elder sister of Belldandy...
...the world of Keiichi and Belldandy won't be the same after Urd's emergence!
Urd, it's an ultra-sexy goddess who is quite aware of her good looks and she isn't affraid to use it as a tool to get her goals.
THEY ARE SISTERS BUT...
The powers and even origins of both sisters are related but different in key points.
While the lovely and benevolent, Belldandy, is a goddess first-class with unlimited license, full goddess by birth, and she is able to travel through mirrors, besides flying and other remarkable skills.
In the case of the sexy and hussy, Urd, not matter that she is elder than Belldandy, still Urd is a goddess second-class with limited license, and a key element is that she is only half-goddess by birth, her other half is of demon origins, and she is able to travel through electronic screens, also she is quite adept (with some explosive results) to alchemy, usually in the area of making potions of many diverse kinds.
ANY COUPLE NEEDS A LITTLE PUSH, RIGHT?
While the stay of Belldandy on Earth along with Keiichi was due a granted wish, now the couple is developing strong feelings for each other.
However, the intrusion of Urd in this delicate situation will be volatile...
...to tell it in a mildly way!
First Urd won't be so convinced that Belldandy can be really is in love with someone like Keiichi...
...but once she realized that they are indeed in love, Urd is now convinced that that "too naive" love need a little of heat...
...however "a little of heat" in Urd's levels may well be "erupting volcano" level to almost any other reasonable being in the universe!!!
A lot of comedy, romance and very absurd situations.
World: The art is getting better and the look I've come to love with this series is starting to emerge, especially the facial expressions (the eyes!). The world building is light and simple and only there to support the story. Solid.
Story: Urd, racing, ring shopping and working. All these little slice of life situations are heartwarming, slow and fun. It's very slow if you are looking for quick resolutions and big tension this is not for you. This is finding joy in a quiet cup of tea.
Characters: The core of the story, Belldandy is slowly getting more complex and Keiichi is just as fun and moving along also. The cast of characters is starting to emerge and their stories are fun.
Sweet, heartwarming and funny. But it's odd that the English-language version was so obviously published out of order and why did they reprint Urd's introduction story twice?
Equally as good as the first volume. Things heat up when Urd decides to make a visit. Great drawings and still a very hilarious story makes this an easy and pleasant read.
Bets, wagers, raising money, and family this manga got it all. Belladany has an older sister named Urd and she is something altogether. Funny thing is all bell's boyfriend wants to to do is relax. This manga is a great read.
In this slice of life with a divine twist Keiichi Morisato and Belldandy are living a nice if simple life even if Keiichi's life tends toward the chaotic thanks primarily to those mortals he associates with in life whether they be overly curious sisters, club members, or even jealous rivals targeting Belldandy. However even with problems like working hard to make ends meet, planning date nights, and finding themselves in a variety of contests/competitions we discover the System Force that ensures wishes granted by the goddesses continue to function is having problems so Belldandy's older sister Urd has come to visit and with her she brings her own for form of chaos adding to Keiichi and Belldandy's already unique lives.
In addition to the stories presented within this manga Dark Horse Manga also continues their extensive discussions as found in many of the manga from them that I have found in the letters to the ENCHANTRESS section at the end of the book. Among the pages it seems the company has also colorized some of the pages within the book that were just black and white in the original runs so we get to see a little something special with this book as they try to bring the beauty of the series more to life.
First off, I wanna say: what the heck kind of name is Urd??? Yeah that’s my weird thing but whatever. I enjoy Urd.
So second volume, another special that was on sale.
This volume keeps the fun going. I like this series. It’s fun. Light hearted fun. I sense some possible action coming in the future, so I’m excited about it.
This series has 48 volumes. I’m curious as to how this story can continue, but I’m excited. 5 stars. Again.
The art's getting better, and I like Urd as a character. We're also getting more of the motor club Keiichi is a part of, which I really like. I've been wanting to find a manga that involves this type of stuff, (since I'm getting into welding), and this is the closest I've come so far. I really like the design of Otaki, and I hope we eventually see more of his relationship with that girl.
Light, amusing, manga. The chapters mostly work as standalone stories, with gradual character development going on the background. I know that this series ran for quite a while; I'm not sure when/if I'll get tired of it, but, for now, I'm enjoying it.
The second volume seems the introduction of Urd. A troublemaker to say the least but the kind of character who adds the right amount of chaos to the overall story.
I love how close MMC and Bell Dandy are getting but ngl- unpopular opinion- not a big fan of URD (her sister). The predatory vibes towards men was annoying to me
Oh My Goddess is one of (the many) manga "classics" I'd never tried. I wasn't sure it be my type of thing but it into a recent reading challenge I did so I finally gave the first couple of volumes a try.
The second volume continues the complications of Keiichi's life due to the addition of his constant companion, the Goddess Belldandy. Supporting characters from the first like Keiichi's "friends" in the bike club, his sister and Belldandy's self-proclaimed rival Sayoko play large roles. We also get the introduction of Belldandy's sister Urd, a force of nature in her own right.
All of the strengths and weaknesses of the first volume reappear. The characters amuse me to an extent and the slow building relationship of Keiichi and Belldandy is done well, but honestly I'm already tired of the formula and humor. It's just personal preference, but I don't care enough about the characters or their hijinks to continue reading. The art is extremely good, although the dated style won't be to all tastes.
Overall OMG Volume 2 is more of the same. If you loved the first volume this will continue to impress. If, like me, you had some reservations it isn't likely to change your mind.
Another fun installment of the series. I think I'll keep trying to get a hold of the English volumes after I finish the offerings of my public library--as I was reading this, I was thinking "no wonder it's so difficult to read in Japanese." From motorcycle talk to some bits about physiology, this is not an easy read for me in Japanese without furigana. I own up to Vol. 32 of the originals, though, so we'll see if I turn to them out of desperation at some point.
Belldandy starts to behave a little more like a human in this volume--she is still altruistic, but it seems like she worries more and gets more defensive of Keiichi. A little more free will is introduced when Belldandy loses her connection the the system(?) or something like that. The humor is still funny without being over-the-top, and the introduction of Urd complicates the story. Also, the editor's notes and the reprinted article in the back about the great debate on how to transliterate the names of Norse goddesses is fascinating stuff (for a linguistics geek like me, anyway).
Already, from Volume 1 to Volume 2, there is a marked improvement in the quality of the art. The characters are a little more natural looking and their eyes aren't as far apart. Additionally, we add another goddess to the mix, Urd - my personal favorite of the gaggle of fun characters this manga gives life to.
Again, I have read all of these before and will continue to love them. The art improves from manga to manga so much that backtracking makes it really odd. The art, as I said, has improved from the first manga already and it gets so much better. This is really a series where you can see marked improvement in the artist's work between each volume and it's great.
The story is a little thin in this one, but it's building up to better things and Fujishima is still introducing who will be his main cast in future volumes.
I'd forgotten that Keiichi and Belldandy do kiss this early in the manga. While the pace of the two's relationship is very, very slow, I do like the fact that in the manga, any introduction of love triangle elements are going to be short lived, as the characters like each other enough that any hypotenuse which tries to interfere is going to find themselves eventually getting ignored.
I can not stop having fun with this series. It's a shame it took me this long to delve into this series so much.
In this volume, Belldandy's powers are more balanced out, the pacing is less erratic, and despite having every opportunity to become perverted (or potentially even erotic), it keeps a very endearing and delightful romcomesque joy, while maintaining the perfect levels of flirtation to keep Keiichi and Belldandy's relationship feeling real and new. This makes my heart so happy.
An interesting continuation of the series, although I feel like Urd hurts things more than she helps. I hope that my feelings towards her change a bit, because as I recall when I was a child, she's a permanent part of the cast.
I actually bought this manga when I went to the 2007 Anime Expo. It could be that it was my very first manga but I this is definately a good manga and I plan on getting the rest.
