Maddie has more problems than the average psychotic killer with superpowers wants her dead.A serious medical issue makes a normal life impossible. And she's about to be introduced to Trevor's family.Guess which one freaks her out the most?
Why I Read this Book: I’ve been hooked on this series ever since I first read Minder (book one). And I’ve been dying to read Legacy ever since I saw the cover for it. *gasp* There’s a baby on the cover! Is that Maddie’s baby?!! Things that make you go hmmm….
What I Liked: The author has created this fascinating world with well-developed characters that are likeable and in some ways, relatable. I feel like I’m a fly on the wall, watching everything going on. I enjoyed the introduction of Belinda, a new character brought to Ganzfield. I don’t like Belinda’s character but I love the tension she brings to the table. She definitely knows how to stir up the pot. She jeopardizes Maddie’s and Trevor’s relationship by implanting false memories into Trevor’s mind. Tsk tsk Belinda.
For the first time in this series, the author has ended this book with a cliffhanger – and I liked it! The showdown at the end was heart pounding intense; I found myself holding my breath a few times. I wasn’t a fan of Zack’s character in the last book but this time around he proved himself brilliant with his tactical planning. And speaking of Zack, there’s a new romance blossoming at Ganzfield.
It’s worth mentioning (again) that I love the ‘previously at Ganzfield’ recap the author provides the reader at the beginning of each book. I never feel lost or unsure when I start the next book in this series thanks to this recap. I’d love to see more authors do this, especially in series that are over 3 books long. It’s hard to remember every important detail that has happened, especially when we readers read a lot of other books in between books in a particular series.
What I Didn’t Like: There’s nothing I don’t like about this book or this series. It just gets better and better with each book.
Overall Impression: There is no slowing down for Kate Kaynak. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, Accused. Thank goodness it comes out this July because I can’t wait to see what happens!! I don’t think this author, nor her books, get the recognition they deserve. This is a must-read for fans of YA paranormal. The world building and attention to details will appeal to fans of Harry Potter. There’s action, suspense, a bit of romance and there’s also a smidge of a science fiction element going on. The author keeps the storyline going by adding fresh characters and new obstacles which leaves me eager for the next book. If you haven’t read Minder or Adversary, I highly recommend you do and ASAP. You don’t want to miss out on this incredible YA Paranormal series.
There is no down time for Maddie. From book to book, I keep thinking this poor girl will catch a break, but drama and bad guys just seek her out. I loved where this story started out. With the title, cover, and then with what Maddie and Trevor were sneaking off to do (no spoilers!) my mouth hit the floor. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Of course, I kept waiting for Kaynak to reveal something--anything else going on. I’ll let you discover the secret. It wasn't what I expected. I was relieved, but at the same time, desperate for another character.
The characters in the Ganzfield series are what makes these books so unforgettable. As much as I love Maddie and Trevor, I enjoy the other characters’ stories and their dilemmas equally. They aren’t simply supporting characters, while the main characters have the starring role, each play a vital role and has an amazingly unique story. A favorite from the second book, Zack, is back, and I’m so excited about where his journey is leading. He’s just awesome. Team Zack!
The gang faces off with Isaiah, the main villain, but a new bad guy is introduced. Whoa, I have to say, as creepy as Isaiah is, this new villain, yeah, Kaynak knows how to write an evil all girls can relate to. This is one character Maddie will hunt down personally. Although we’re left wanting more, and need more, I think this third installment wraps up, giving us closure on the happenings throughout, while starting a new story to continue the series. And I can’t wait.
I won this book! I am getting this in the mail. I am about to FLIP OUT! I cannot wait to read it. THANK YOU GANZFIELD AND KATE KAYNAK!!!!!!
So glad to be back in the world of Trevor, Maddie and Ganzfield. This series is amazing. I love the characters so much! This book already has me wrapped around its pages!!
I loved this book so much. There is nothing better than being lost in the world of Ganzfield. Kate Kaynak is brilliant. I love this world that she has created. To me, it is so real. I feel so close to Maddie, Trevor & all the gang at Ganzfield. I cannot get enough of Ganzfield. Legacy was a page turner. I could not put this book down!
I love the covers of these books. They are so cool & eye catching.
I have just won this book from First Reads. I look forward to reading it. I hope I do not miss out by starting the series with book #3. Thank you Goodreads and Kate.
And to think I almost skipped this one....I had to re-read the first 2, to get back in the mood but once I did I was completely enthralled. Every book just seems to keep getting better and better...
I actually made it to the third book of a series! *round of applause* I'm renowned for starting a book series and never finishing it. Except Kaynak's Ganzfield series has kept me hooked!!
Filled with great characters, a powerful villain and all-around great characters with kickass abilities, I couldn't put it down.
It's hard for me to form coherent thoughts about this book because for the most part, I was speechless (get it? Speechless? Like Maddie? I'm sorry- that was too soon guys.)
Firstly, I appreciate the way there's a little introductory section "Previously at Ganzfield" to refresh my memory on what happened in the previous books. I realised a couple of things I had forgotten and quickly went "Oh, that's right! That did happen!". It sort of reminded me what they do on TV shows, with a preview of what happened in the previous episode. On a side note: this series could become a TV show! I'm calling it now - I would love to see Maddie and Trevor and the rest of Ganzfield as a TV series.
Anyway, right from the first chapter, we're dropped with a bombshell that left every reader shocked. A quick question about this bombshell:
Also, we were introduced to some new characters. One of them, Belinda, a new charm at Ganzfield.
Just a few constructive criticisms: - I felt like the showdown at the end went a little too quickly (pacing-wise). Yet I liked how it unfolded and how the reader was left guessing on how it was going to go down (we were out of the loop which was great)
For the next books, I really hope to see more of the supporting characters like Drew, Rachel, Claire, Zack, Ann, Hannah etc.
Loved how the ending of the book keeps us reading! Can't wait for the next one!
Before letting her readers get enthralled within the pages of this book, Kate Kaynak wrote a letter refreshing their minds or updating new readers with events from the previous books, Minder and Adversary. While, both books are difficult to forget, I thought it was a very considerate thing for her to do. I wish more authors would do it.
Legacy, the third installment in the Ganzfeild Novels, began with Maddie, Trevor and friends back at the Ganzfield compound attempting to cope with the recent lost of loved ones, Isaiah escaping, and Maddie no longer having the ability of speech. It was a good thing she was a Minder and able to communicate through thoughts. She also found herself supporting a friend, who learned she was in a very delicate situation. Not to mention, with Isaiah free, hunting G-positives, and killing them for their dodecamine, family members, alumni, and other G-positives had been moving into Ganzfield seeking sanctuary and protection. Among the newcomers, a very bitchy bombshell named Belinda, who just happened to be a powerful charmer.
Although recent events and experiences caused them to grow up faster, the author stayed true to the characters and Maddie, Trevor and the others were still credible for their ages. The romance between Maddie and Trevor was very sweet and because of his history, Trevor had an personal understanding of what the ramifications of sex could be. I appreciated that he didn't have any desire to pressure Maddie and that he felt their special bond and metaphysical relationship was good enough for the time being. In truth, I found that to be a very endearing quality. I was also pleased with the way the author introduced his family. Trevor's reluctance about returning home was understandable and it was very realistic. The fact is, not every family has the sweet Brady Bunch environment, sometimes it's harsh and filled with hostility and/or neglect. Such was it was with his grandmother and his mother. As a reader, I couldn't help but feel bad for him. It was heart-warming when Trevor realized that he did have family that cared about him, his grandfather. While it was sad and unfortunate about Trevor's grandfather's illness, I loved that he was almost childlike in his wonder and awe of his grandson and that he was able to tell his grandson he was proud of him. Mentioning of family...Maddie's mom was a hoot. I can't decide, if she was over protective or obsessive. Perhaps, both...but it was appearent she loved her daughter. I felt all warm and fuzzy when she hugged Trevor, then Maddie ruined it with her snarky logical reasoning...*sighs*
As this series grows, so do those who live within the pages. One of the best attributes of this series is the quality of its characters. Kate Kaynak puts such depth, substance, and credible personality into each character including her supporting characters, that it is hard to believe they are mere fiction. I was pleased to too see many returning characters, such as Zack, Hannah, Rachel, and Drew. I was also happy to see friendships blossom and relationships stand the test of temptation. Mentioning of temptation....Another talent the author has is to pull on the emotional strings of the reader. When Belinda had lustful eyes for Trevor and taunted it in front of Maddie....I found myself mentally screaming at her..."Fry the fricken hussy's brain!" or "Make her forget her powers and think she is the ugliest person alive, it would serve her right!". Naturally, Maddie was a better person than me. Another character who returned was Dr. Williamson, although now I think everyone is suppose to call him "Jon". What the hell was up with him? He was suppose to be their leader, the person they could trust, the person they turned to, and the person who saw through pretty much everything. He wasn't charmed, yet he basically chose the hussy bitch over Maddie. How could he after what Belinda did to Trevor to get back at her?...Made me start mental screaming all over again.
Overall, Kate Kaynak has done it again. She's on top of her game and it looks like she intends on staying there. I thought the characters, both protagonist and supporting were richly developed, had substantial growth, and had an essence of truth about them that made them feel realistic. As far as the plot went, I thought it was amazingly dynamic and intriguing, and that it was unpredictable with some surprising twist. One of those twisty surprises created a villain who was just as evil, just as motivated, and just as intelligent as Isaiah, but with a few differences. The new villain looks to be more unpredictable, have a spiteful personality, appeared to have some very powerful and influential connections within the government. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next installment, Accused. I definitely recommend this book not only to young adults, but to adults as well. In my opinion, The Ganzfield Novels are in a league all their own. Like its predecessors, Minder and Adversary, Legacy pulls on the heart strings, invades the imagination and invites the reader to live vicariously within its pages....

If you are a follower of the Kate Kaynak's Ganzfield Series, you are going to LOVE book three, Legacy!
Legacy picks up with the Ganzfield group of students with superpower abilities returning to the Ganzfield compound after a massive tragedy. Many other Ganzfield alumni and relatives are flocking to the compound to avoid the wrath of Isaiah, who is out to murder anyone with similar abilities as well as steal their supplies of ability-enhancing "dodecamine". Supply is running out for Isaiah and he's out for quick, calculated revenge. This threat brings in new characters with different combinations of abilities as well as returning characters, like the minders Ann and Zack, and the bombshell, Belinda. Kate Kaynak is turning up the heat with added romances and personality clashes and just when you think the battle is over, she throws in a new twist!
Legacy is a perfect combination of supernatural teen romance, friendship, and exhilarating thrills. Kate Kaynak unleashes yet again her superpower "charm" ability to grab hold of your mind and take you on a hair-raising, mind-scrambling, emotional ride. She'll have you holding your breath in fear one minute, then exhaling it with and out-loud laugh at one of her characters' zingers!
"Mom...The pain and wordless accusation in her eyes stopped me and I sighed. I guess every parent has a moment when she realizes that her little girl is all grown up and wants to hunt killer telepaths. Outside, Seth cracked up."
and
From outside, Seth's exasperation came through. Geez, Maddie! You aren't one to talk" For eight months we've all had heads full of , "Ooh, Trevor's so amazing!" "Trevor's so handsome!" "Trevor's my perfect soulmate!" His mental voice whined with falsetto parody. [...] I wish I could shield. Ann was still embarrassed. I wish Seth could, I thought sourly. "I'd still be able to talk, Maddie!" came the thin sound of a shout from outside.
I loved Legacy and for a third book in a series it didn't disappoint. I loved it as much as Adversary and can't wait for Accused to come out next summer. As much as I love the thrills, my favorite parts were the "girl-talk" between Ann and Maddie, the relief I felt with Zach in charge, and Trevor protecting Maddie while she sleeps (dying to leak out a spoiler here - but you'll just have to read it for yourself!) Will Ann and Maddie stay friends? Will their compound remain safe? Will Maddie and Trevor be able to remain in their four-armed loving embrace? What will happen with Rachel? Will we "see" more of Seth?
Thank you, Kate for my ARC of Legacy! Your "abilities" improve with every book - Williamson would be proud! May you never run out of "dodecamine"!
I give Legacy ***** 5 Stars!
You can get your copy of Legacy at Amazon.com and check out the Ganzfield fan page at www.ganzfield.com.
Legacy picks up with Maddie just barely escaping the grasp of Isaiah and learning that her connection with Trevor runs much deeper than even they thought. The two are back at Ganzfield, minus several friends who lost their lives in the last battle, but with more new residents in their stead. Isaiah is still out there, still hunting down other G-positives, and the Ganzfield crew won’t stand for his murder. They devise a plan to draw Isaiah out once and for all, but nothing ever really goes according to plan and a few deaths are almost expected….but is a birth?
Kate Kaynak gets better with each book and I can easily say that Legacy is my favorite in the series thus far. It is a bit slower than the rapid craziness that was Adversary, but I enjoyed getting to know the characters more. Trevor’s family life is interesting and seeing how he fits into it really adds some depth to him. His grandfather Archer is so sweet and I love how he holds on to the idea that he may be more than just a regular guy.
The new characters that pop up around Ganzfield are fun to get to know as well. Maddie’s relationship with Rachel becomes more of a true friendship and I have to say her minder girl-talk with Ann cracked me up. As did many of Maddie’s jokes…New Jersey once again becomes a punch-line. But at the center of it are Maddie and Trevor. Their love story still holds strong in this one, but a little wrench gets thrown in. I can’t lie, I like a little tension, but the way they handle it all just makes me smile. Their love story is one that I can really get behind.
Legacy is on wild ride with new characters, unexpected twists, and that evil guy Isaiah still wreaking havoc. If you’re looking for some great character growth (along with some snarky Maddie) then Legacy aims to please. Be prepared though, it can be upsetting. A little death, a little anger, and a lot of me wanting to slap a few different girls for various reasons = great job, Kate! It’s a good thing Accused comes out this year because I really don’t want to wait that long for it.
Opening line: Trevor and I had wanted to wait until dark to steal the car, but that would’ve been too late. ~ pg. 1
Favorite lines: Where could we get a nun’s habit? I’d never enjoyed the voyeuristic aspect of telepathy – having a front-row seat to other people’s sex fantasies made my stomach clench. Most of the time, it was just…gross. Not to mention poorly lit, with bad acting and stilted dialogue. ~ pgs. 31-32
Characters: This book took a turn from focusing on Trevor and Maddie into Maddie and Rachel. The author brings in more characters again with this one and we also lose some as well. My favorite was the addition of Maddie's mother into Ganzfield. I love her.
Plot: After Ganzifield was attacked in book 2, the survivors have returned back to try to rebuild what was lost. Also they still have to keep track of Isaiah and his travels. He is still out killing people and eventually will find his way back to the group to finish off what he did not complete in book 2.
Writing: Maddie still has the loss of her speech abilities and can only communicate through the telepathy and her boyfriend Trevor. This makes for interesting reading but the author is able to portray how each person communicates effectively through the writing. Something that with the variety of powers that each person has in Ganzifield could have been very confusing. But there is no confusion here. Her books read very much like a science fiction/ fantasy story.
Originality: There are several different abilities that the students of Ganzfield possess. From healing to mind readers and those that can stretch their mind power out to help or influence others. The students of Ganzfield do take a supplement pill that enhances their abilities and they have to go through training drills and become a target to outside organizations, others like themselves or want to have what they have.
Krista's Review: The previous 2 books were very high paced and action packed. Several characters dying and more being brought in. The magical fighting scenes and event the Main characters getting hurt was a change of pace to the other Young Adult stories out there where everything turns out ok in the end. With book 3 we take a step back from all of the intensity and take a deeper look at some of the characters other than focusing on Maddie and Trevor. Rachel plays a huge role in this one as well as learning more about the effects that the pill supplements may have on them and their children. It's not as action packed or intense as the previous two, but more delving deeper into the future of Ganzfield and the repercussions of the supplements on their families and keeping Isaiah from getting what he wants.
Ok, this review is going to be a bit spoilerish this time, so if you haven't read the book keep reading at your own risk! Did I say that the series gets better & better? By the time of Soulmate the Ganzfield series is going to be a masterpiece! I have to say, the cover might trick you into something that technically hasn't happened... to her. Kate made me read the teaser way before I started the book and I was like: "Are you kidding me? This can't be happening!" This time I will go into some details as there are opinions I would like to share for certain happened facts. For starters, I didn't realize Maddie couldn't talk anymore. I mean, I knew Isaiah damaged her but I didn't understand the damage was permanent. It was so heartbreaking, but at least she can still talk into people's heads. Rachel's pregnant (you're not fooling me, I know everyone who read the teaser thought it was Maddie!). How sweet, and I liked that now she's good friends with Maddie. The part with Trevor's family was really sad. I felt sorry that Archer died, it was really unexpected. But sadder is the fact that Trevor's family doesn't love/want him. Also, it was pretty predictable that they would blame him. Let's see... what's next? Oh yes, Zack & Ann. I didn't particularly enjoy this new romance. But then, these are characters I'm not interested in that much, so never mind. Uhm... And then there's Belinda... There is so much I could say about her but it's all made by swearwords so I don't think I'll post them here :P The last part of the book, where all the action took place, was amazing, so breathtaking I couldn't keep my eyes off of the book! I found only one negative note in all of this: Maddie's mom. She lives in Ganzfield now as in Adversary we found out that she's a G-positive too. I really can't stand when parents are not involved in the kid's life and then, when they suddenly become, they start bossing around. It really felt like reading about Clary's mom (The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare). I now can't wait to get my hands on Accused... I'm pretty sure it's gonna be fun!
I could not believe how lucky I was to get the ARC of Legacy! It is the third book in the Ganzfield Series by Kate Kaynak, and I am in love with the first two books! For my reviews on those first two, please check out Minder & Adversary.
So, we're thrust back into the world of Charms, Sparks, RV's and of course, Minders. I love being in this world and watching everyone learn to use their powers and grow stronger each day. Legacy was definitely everything I expected it to be. I loved returning to Trevor & Maddie's love story and their quest to stop a madman from destroying all of their kind.
The Trevor/Maddie love story is probably one of the reasons I am so infatuated with this series. I just find it so believable and beautiful. Honestly, I kept waiting for Kate Kaynak to throw another love interest into the mix (since that seems to be all the rage these days) and I am so glad that she didn't! To me, Trevor and Maddie are perfect and loving - without ever getting overly cliche. I especially loved that this time around, the two had to deal with normal teenage issues like whether to hang out with each other or hang out with friends. It made their relationship seem more authentic .
***SPOILER ALERT****
I hate giving away spoilers, but I couldn't talk about this without giving it away. The one and only part of this book that I actually did not like was the final fight with Isaiah. I wish it had been longer and I wish it had been more difficult to win. This was the one gripe that I had with part two as well. I feel like the entire novel, you're just waiting for this moment. You're waiting for this big fight, and then you kinda get short changed. Isaiah is supposed to be this amazing, formidable opponent - and I kept waiting for him to have something else up his sleeve, but he didn't.
*********************
Other than that one criticism, I must say that I am now and forever will be a Kate Kaynak fan. I love her writing style and I love her story ideas. The Ganzfield Series is one that I am enjoying so much, and I can't wait to read # 4 - Accused. Buy all three books!
I am so torn right now, between taking a breather and processing everything I just read in this book and just doing this now. So many feelings spinning around that I don't want to slip away. *Sigh* ... here we go. This book, no more like this whole freakin' series is such a roller coaster of the feels. This is in no way me complaining here!!
First off I appreciate the fact that instead of steady info dumps in the fist couple chapters to kind of "remind you" of what happened in the first two books like most do, Kate Kaynak writes us up a few page "refresher" to remind us what sparks and charms and minders, etc all are and who has what ability and a couple of lines about everyone and what happened to them in Adversary. It's awesome! That way we just get straight into the story. And it's here, before the story even continues that I first cracked up. The way she started it all with the "Previously, at Ganzfield..." Okay, maybe I'm easily amused but...
And then there's Maddie and Trevor's new pet names for each other "Freak" and "Four Hands". Trust me it's cute and humorous. But it's not all fun and laughter. In true Ganzfield style there's quite a bit of sadness in this one as well. Trevor just cannot catch a break.
We have an epic battle. Epic betrayal in the worst way possible. There's some new people to love. Some new people to despise. And just when you start to think "More people? But there's so many to remember already!" Don't worry some will be taken out of the equation for you! I'm telling you this book is a yo-yo of emotions. And I am so addicted!
I am still loving this series immensely and am looking forward to continuing on with Accused. Box of tissues in hand...
Legacy continues with the lives of Maddi,Trevor,Drew,Hannah and Rachel. As the threat of Isaiah continues to grow and close in on the G-Positives of Ganzfield, The team has to do everything they can in order to save all of the lives of the G-Positives, even if that means Maddi using herself as bait. Jon has a plan to stop Isaiah but it means leaving Maddi and Trevor out of all of the plans. They cannot know anything about what is going on because Isaiah will just take it from their minds. But if this isn't enough anxiety for Maddi she soon learns that she will be meeting Trevor's family for the first time. And she doesn't expect to receive a warm response.
As the team sets up to head out to New Jersey where the drug that helps them keep their abilities is kept, there is an interesting piece of news that keeps Rachel from going with them. Being down an RV especially one as strong as Rachel puts a big kink in their plans. But they pick up some new team members who turn out to be a valuable asset in protecting G-Positives.
While they believe they have stopped the threat with Isaiah they learn that the destruction goes way beyond that of just one deranged psychopath. Maddi finds out that Isaiah had been leaked information from inside of Ganzfield to people in the government, military and the media. But now they have to figure out how Isaiah received his information. There is a traitor inside of Ganzfield but will Maddi, Trevor and the rest of the team be able to figure out who it is before it's too late?
I absolutely adore the Ganzfield series. They are extremely hard to put down once you pick them up. The connection Kate has to her readers is an amazing talent. I feel extremely connected to her characters and feel what they feel while it's going on. I love the characters, I love the storyline and the books just keep getting better and better. I am highly anticipating seeing where Kate is going to take the characters of Ganzfield and I cannot wait to join them.
It feels absolutely wonderful to be able to go back and visit all of my favorite characters from the Ganzfield series! Without being completely spoiler-ish, can I just say that Zack is back! I absolutely adored his snarky attitude in Adversary and was sad to see him go... so, it was a pleasant surprise to have him back in the series. I have to say he wasn't quite as snarky as he was before, but I think he's just calming down from the bold character that he was when we last saw him - when things between him and Maddie got a little out of control.
Along with Zack coming to Ganzfield, we have a new villian as well. Actually, witch with a capital "B" would be a better description, but I am attempting to be nice! There's also all of our other favorite characters making their return to the story as well - including Drew! As if there is any need to point this out ... Kate keeps the characters true to themselves and they never stray from who they truly are.
The story starts out with a shocking scene that makes you go, "Wait! What?! I thought they never..." Leave it to Kate to make me almost have a stroke within the first chapter! But things are resolved and the story continues. Like its predecessors, Legacy is full of internal struggles as well as external, leaving you with no downtime whatsoever. It seems like Maddie just can't get any breaks between figuring herself out and fighting the bad guys - but when she does get a break, she has Trevor ... and we always love to read about those two. They're an adorable couple without being overly cheesy in any way.
Overall, Legacy definitely lived up to the standards that I have now set for the Ganzfield series. It was just as wonderful and emotionally draining (not in a bad way) as Minder and Adversary. As soon as I sat down with this one, it had me and didn't let go until the end. I can't wait for the fourth installment, Accused, that's coming out in August.
*contains spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books in the series and NO Spoilers for Legacy!
I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Minder and Adversary that I was really excited when I got a chance to read the eARC for Legacy. I just felt like I needed a little more from the Ganzfield world and Legacy definitely gave me that and more!
After the massacre that happened in Adversary, Ganzfield is trying to pick up it’s pieces and put itself back together. Maddie’s mom has joined the school and one of Maddie’s friends has just gotten some life changing news whilst trying to cope with the lost of her boyfriend. Not to mention that more and more people are gathering at Ganzfield, including a Charmer that has her sights set on Trevor.
That’s only inside Ganzfield, outside, their good old enemy is on the hunt after being exposed to his fanatic followers. He has decided to wipe all the supernaturals off the face of the earth and the only thing Maddie and her friends can do is go on the offensive.
I really enjoyed Legacy, a little less than Minder and Adversary, but it was still a great book. The thing that bothers me is that even though Maddie and Trevor acknowledge their attraction and the fact that they want to have sex, Maddie keeps saying that their “soulmating” {an extreme joint of minds} is so intense and pleasurable that sex might not compare. That might be true, but it sounds sometimes as a device from the author to keep Maddie and Trevor from actually having sex. I might be completely off base here, but it feels like that at times.
Regardless, I love this series and I am very interested in seeing where Kate will take Maddie and her friends. A lot changes in Legacy and I for one am really looking forward to seeing where the series goes!
The characters totally keep me coming back to this series! I love a few, like a lot and totally hate a couple of them.
The love 'em/obvious favorites... why Maddie and Trevor, of course! They continue to complete each other in the most perfect ways. Their soul mating, the red flashes of desire, the invisible arms, the unconditional love... no one, not even YOU, Belinda, can tear these two apart!
I really like the idea of a Zack and Ann future together! I'm so happy that Zack came back (liked him in the last book, even though he went a bit creeper on Maddie for a minute) and am relieved that he's found a chance for happiness!! Ann seems pretty cool too. I also like the possibility for more girl talk between Ann and Maddie. The fact that they are both minders is even more of a bonus.
The most hated... definitely Isaiah. Mr. Greedy, give-me-your-powers and dodecamine earned what he had coming to him at the end. As for Belinda... well, she may actually tie with Isaiah for most hated in my opinion. I can't stand charms like her and girls like her in general. Dang! Stay away from Trevor already! I am not looking forward to more of her.
And yea, it's supposed to be for the greater good and everything but I hate it when Dr. Williamson leaves Maddie and Trevor in the dark! It just feels wrong, especially when they do so much for Ganzfield already. Dr. Williamson is inching down my "like" list more with each book.
I'm curious to find out what will happen next in book four, Accused. (The small excerpt at the end never fails to make me want more!) So many questions- When/where will they catch the escaped baddie? What happens next for Rachel? (I was a little disappointed with her part in the story, largely due to the fact that the cover is a nod to her and not much seemed to happen with that so far...) What will the aftermath be like from the unfortunate "reveal"?
Kate Kaynak blew me over with Minder and I became an enthusiastic fan of the series. I enjoyed the first 2 books a lot, but Legacy left me disappointed. I was expecting as much thrill, action and excitement as I was led to expect due to the previous stories, but sadly Legacy failed in that resort. If I have to find a similar reading experience I would say it reminded me of New Moon by Stephenie Meyer in the fact that Legacy was mostly the inner gushing of Maddie and how much she is in love with Trevor and how they are each other's soulmates. I love Maddie and Trevor together, they are great, and Trevor is swoonworthy:
"Maddie", his voice became serious, "I'm going to spend the rest of my life with you. And as much as I want both of our families to give us their blessings, in the end, the only person's opinion that truly matters to me is yours."
And yes, they really share an incredibly harmonious relationship, but I found the constant repetitions grating on my nerves.
The world Kate Kaynak created for the series is fascinating, the different talents people have and how they learn to use them is amazing. But not much happens in Legacy, the big face off with Isaiah the Nemesis of the previous books takes place less than 50 pages before the end of the 280 pages (and lasts about 15 pages). It didn't feel as climactic as I thought the huge fight with the mega villain would. It was over before it began, so Kate Kaynak didn't have me worked up, and all my nails remained intact.
Verdict: I was sad that after the great thrill the previous books were Legacy fell short, but I hope it fulfilled its role of "filling story" and that Accused, book #4 in the series will be back with the usual thrill and action, I'm looking forward to some nail biting action!
This review was originally posted on my blog, Darkest Sins.
In my review for "Adversary" I said the second book was the proof that when a series has such a strong potential, every book gets better and better! Well, I'm pleased to tell you that I was so damn right!
Let me start from the cover... In my opinion all of them are simply perfect for the concept of the books! Said that, what about this one in particular? When you pick up the book you find yourself staring at the cover for several mins wondering: "Are you kidding me?" - a few minutes later: "Is it really what I think this is about?". And the answer is... Read the book because you seriously can't imagine it at all!
The thing I always love and hate at the same time is that I just have time to say "I like this character!" and you can be sure that something is definitely gonna happen to him/her... Frustrating but even so amazing, don't you agree? I really don't like when things are too easy, when it's all too expected and thank God with Kate Kaynak and her characters that's not possible! To be honest in every book of Ganzfield series there's the element of surprise but in this instalment I found it particularly intriguing... I think your wondering and wondering about the characters involved in the action is what really keeps your heart throbbing, what helps you staying focused on the events and what renders so special this reading. And of course Maddie and her condition...
I'd say "Legacy" is my fave book of the series, but I have to wait to affirm that because you can never say never with Kate and what she keeps by... And trust me when I say that in the world there are not enough charms to stop you from reading this series!
I really enjoyed the first book in the series, and though the second one left me feeling disappointed at the end, I thought I'd give the third book a try due to the reviews and mention of having a new charm at Ganzfield. Not bad, but not really what I was hoping for, either.
Don't get me wrong, the story itself wasn't bad, but it didn't really catch my interest until the end when they focused on a confrontation with Isaiah, the main bad guy. I was happy with how he did confront them (not what they expected), and how the event played out. Personally, I didn't have as much interest in the relationship interests/and the dealing with the child, or the "real life" issues. I like the super hero part, the powers, and the world of those powers, not so much the teen drama, and I couldn't really get into it.
That's not to say others won't enjoy it... just not my cup of tea.
I will say, there were some enjoyable moments. I enjoyed the characterization of Zack and Ann, and there were some humorous moments between Maddie and Seth I enjoyed. We did see some new uses of minder and charm powers (I've got a growing fondness for Zack and his abilities, by the way. That itself was pretty cool). I also enjoyed the trick up Isaiah's sleeve, and I'm curious as to what will happen with the new charm, Belinda, though I'm wondering if she's really the bad guy Maddie thinks she is.
So there were some definite perks, but it didn't go the direction I was hoping it would go.
Since I started Minder, the first book in the Ganzfield series, I’ve been hooked on it. I started reading Legacy as soon as I got a hold of it and I adored it. There was just so much going on in Legacy. Legacy started with a surprise that had me wanting to read more and it kept going until the very end. Legacy was just absolutely fantastic. Kate Kaynak has such a way with words that keeps you hooked on the story. As with the first two books in the series Legacy is filled with some really funny parts but also some really serious parts. There were a few sad parts in Legacy but not as many as Adversary. Although, there were so many times when I felt like shaking some of the characters. I really admire Maddie because I would really not cope with all of the nasty thoughts that people had about her. Legacy is just as awesome as the first two books in the Ganzfield series and just when I thought things were being resolved all new problems pop up. In the back of the book there was a sneak peak of the next book in the series, Accused, and wow, it sounds amazing. I cannot wait to read it. The Ganzfield series is a great book about psychic powers and if you love that kind of thing or you’re looking for something different then I guarantee that you will absolutely love the Ganfield series.
Legacy is the third installement in the Ganzfield and by far my favourite in the series so far. Legacy was just amazing I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. I was lucky enough for Spencer Hill press to email me asking me review these books and even more lucky to get this ARC. I'm so glad I said yes.
Legacy continues the story of the pupils of Ganzfield just shortly after the devasting events of the Adversary. Seeing the gang of Charms, RVs, Sparks and Minders catapulted back into the quest of destroying the crazy Isaiah who is set on bring down their world and everyone in it.
I felt that in this all the old characters have mature and developed from the past two novels, as well and having some new characters such as Belinda who could Maddie sees as a threat. With Kate's incredible writing styles they characters and their world is so believeable and engaging you find yourself being drawn into the story very easily.
Legacy is in a whole other league to the first two books. There are twists and turns, as well as romance danger and adventure that the other have. If you are wanting a series that will capture you full imagination, spend hours reading without stopping and will keep to thinking even after you have finished the books, then these are the books for you.
Thank you to Kate and Spencer Hill Press for the chance to read these books.
This is just one more completely, entirely, absolutely, totally, wholly, amazing book by Kate Kaynak! I loved this book, it's been a while since I've read Minder and Adversary, but I jumped right back into Maddie and Trevor's world like I'd never left! Although I know he's not supposed to be, for the last two books Zach has actually been my favorite character, and I know that Maddie HAS to be with Trevor because they are soul-mates or whatever ;) and I'm completely okay with that but... if Trevor just happened to fall off a cliff, I'm glad Zach's there to take his place...
In Legacy, Maddie, Trevor, and their team continue their fight against Isaiah. That feat has become even more difficult because Maddie lost her ability to speak after Isaiah blasted her mind in the same way she blasted his. Along with dealing with Isaiah they have to cope with all of the G-Positives that have flocked to Ganzfield after Isaiah started killing them off, some of which aren't above using their powers in any way to get what they want. On top of all that, Maddie and Trevor have to make an emergency trip to Trevor's family's house, and Maddie's never met them before. "Normal" has gone out the window. Now they just need to survive.

I was SO excited to be able to review another of Kate's books. I very much enjoyed ADVERSARY and MINDER and I enjoyed LEGACY just as much. Kate gets you thinking and on the edge of your seat from the first chapter. Maddie had to grow up fast and she is rolling with the punches and learning that she cant always be in control. The supporting characters are all wonderful to get to know, I have come to care about what happens to them just as much as with Maddie. You will see some new faces as well as a new villain, I already know this person is going to be right up there in the evil department like Isaiah. I have found all the books in the Ganzfield to be very smooth and fast reads even though they are packed to the gill with twist, turns, action, and suspense. There is so much awesomeness but I cant tell you much more because I will give away spoilers. I can not wait to see what ACCUSED brings to the table.
The story of Ganzfield continues...and it is NOt disappointing at all.
Maddie and Trevor grow even closer, if that is even possible to do! Maddie and a the team, go out to try and stop Isaiah from killing more G-positives. Why is he doing this? They need to figure out why to help find a way to destroy him.
I love that Zack's roll in this book as picked up. I like his character a lot!
Definately a good and fun read...I knew it would be exciting, and hard to put down once I started reading. Definatley looking forward to Accused to come!!!
This book was not as good as the previous two books in the series. It dragged on a lot and I thought that a good portion of the story could have been narrowed down by excluding some of the unnecessary waiting bits. I also got a bit tired of the teenage romance in this one because it wasn't just Trevor and Maddie this time and it felt unrealistic to a degree but then I again I can't connect through souls. I'm still looking forward to the next novel though as I'm curious to see how everyone at Ganzfield is going to deal with the new dilemma that's been thrown at them.
What an excellent read. G-positives are under attack and running from Isaiah. Maddie, Trevor and some old and new faces must figure out how to protect all G-postiives and get rid of Isaiah at the same time. This book introduces some new characters that you will love and love to hate. I loved how fast paced this book was, I never got bored for felt like the storyline was lagging.
