Psychic Jeff Resnick has no expectations when investigating the disappearance of a four-year-old, until he confronts the mind responsible--a shattering experience for all involved. --"A compelling mystery that will grip you tightly and not let go--even after you've finished reading." ~ Leann Sweeney, nationally best-selling author of the Yellow Rose and Cats In Trouble mysteries
The immensely popular Booktown Mystery series is what put Lorraine Bartlett’s pen name Lorna Barrett on the New York Times Bestseller list, but it’s her talent -- whether writing as Lorna, or L.L. Bartlett, or Lorraine Bartlett -- that keeps her there. This multi-published, Agatha-nominated author pens the exciting Jeff Resnick Mysteries as well as the acclaimed Victoria Square and Lotus Bay Mystery series, and now the Tales of Telenia fantasy saga, and has many short stories and novellas to her name(s). I wish there were more of these straight forward cases. Just because they're easy to read and remember. They'd balance out the complexity of the regular books.
A Paranormal must read!, April 1, 2012 By Ellen Rappaport (Florida)
This review is from: Cold Case (A Jeff Resnick Mystery) Let me start by saying that the Jeff Resnick series is my favorite paranormal series ever. Since I've read all the books in this series I am grateful for these short stories to keep me going until the next book comes out.
"Cold Case" deals with the untimely death of a young child. I usually never read stories about a child being harmed but this author was able to avoid the usual pitfalls of a story like this and use it instead to delve into the deepest paranormal experiences of Jeff Resnick. Jeff, in this story, knows from the get go that the little boy will not be coming home. Rather than dwell on the heart break of a Mother's loss, Jeff follows his paranoraml instincts and wanders where his spirit leads him. The author brings us into the intensity of Jeff's "gift' by helping us to understand that he not only empathizes with the Mother...he absorbs her feelings. I believe this is what may also bring on his migraine headaches resulting in Jeff's becoming ill in the neighbor's apt. I don't want to give away too much of this story and ruin the pleasure of anyone planning on reading this story so...let me just say that you will not be disappointed by this journey into Jeff's paranormal abilities. Each book in this series and each short story is a journey that I am experiencing with Jeff. All I can say is "thank-you" to this creative author and please keep writing.
I Highly recommend this short story to all readers.
I love the Jeff books and although this was a short story, it was great! He was beaten up in the first book and since the head injury, he is psychic. In this story he helps to find a little boy that is missing.
Another well written L.L. Bartlett story. But I really love all your books and stories!
A very tightly written and suspenseful short story. I enjoyed the read and wished the story had been drawn out a bit. The ending is worth the quick read and the price of the Kindle edition.
Now that I know how enjoyable her work is, I'm on to some of Ms. Bartlett's full-length novels.
Jeff's brother brings him in on the case of a missing little boy. The boy disappeared from in front of his apartment. The police are stumped and agree to let Dr. Resnick bring in his broth who has at times shown some special abilities. So how does Mr. Resnick fare on this one? Read it and find out!
Very short story. This author is very quick reading. I was both very excited to get to the end to see who done it and then disappointed the read was over. Love her books!!
A four year old boy has gone missing and Jeff is called in to see if his psychic powers can help find him. What he discovers when he visits a neighbor is startling and sad.
