A fun and fast moving novel that catches the feel of the original TV series. The Germans are launching a major attack against an Allied-held town, so the Rat Patrol is assigned to sneak behind enemy lines and raise havoc. There is non-stop action set over a period of several days as the Patrol blows up fuel depots, performs other acts of sabotage, kidnaps a high-ranking German officer and gathers intelligence to assist an eventual counter-attack. The action is wildly unrealistic, but follows its own internal logic and allows the protagonists to be clever in planning their tactics and improvisations.

A surprisingly engaging, well-written novel with a good plot and characters including believable locales on the coast of North Africa set in the year 1943. High paced combat action with well-researched details about armaments and desert weather changes. I highly recommend it for new fans (or veyetan fans) of the '60s TV adventure series.
