Nina Beaumont
26 books263 followersNina Gettler was born in Salzburg, Austria, home to Mozart and the Von Trapp family. She is of Russian descent, whose family tree includes the Stroganoff family, Count Zhubov, who is reputed to have been Catherine the Great's last lover, and several other interesting historical characters. She grew up in Massachusetts, USA, and after spending her first two years of college in Austria, graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.A. in French and an M.A. in German.
Returning to Austria in 1970, Nina worked for sixteen years as a translator for Russian, French and Italian before turning to writing full-time. Her life-long interest in history and her fluency in several languages has been of great help in the in-depth research she does for her books, which includes traveling to where the stories are set. After spending 25 years in Austria, she relocated to Seattle in July 1995 on the strength of a gut feeling that this was the right place for her to go.

Can it be possible........that I, after many years of wandering, parched, in an empty desert, finally found a romance novel that did not just temporarily distract me, but actually pulled at my heartstrings?
Felicity Allen, our FP, is a gifted 19th-century American singer who moves continents to Vienna (ooooo, that's a new location for me) to deal with the remnants of her traumatic past. There, in the midst of Austria's stirring revolution against the ruling class, she meets Maximilian Berg—aristocrat, rebel, legend—and they fall in love and blah, blah, blah, lifetime of happiness, blah. There's not a lot here, especially in the first half of the novel where Max and Felicity first meet, for me to recommend to others, but for me personally, offbeat bargain-bin historical romances from the 90s might be my forever genre. The author, who grew up in Austria, is clearly very passionate about the historical context of the novel—that stood out to me right away in the preface. I found myself engrossed in the second part of the novel, where Max takes Felicity to meet his family and the dynamic shifts from sex-at-first-sight to more mature stability and tenderness. What stuck with me the most was Felicity's history of sexual assault being treated with due horror, caution, and respect. I can't think of a single romance novel I've read before this that was willing to ascribe to its heroine actual trauma, with actual long-lasting consequences, and I did not expect to feel so gratified by Max's patient and supportive response.
TL;DR: I really enjoyed it! This 4-star review came as a welcome surprise to me. Letting ourselves feel things and enjoy non-toxic male love interests 2020!!

In " Felicity, Weg in die Freiheit: Wien, 1848 (Liebe in stürmischen Zeiten 2) " kommt die berühmte Sängerin Felicity Allen nach Wien, um ein Versprechen gegenüber ihres verstorbenen Vaters einzulösen.
Das sie dabei auf Maximilian von Berg trifft und dieser ein reges Interesse an ihr zeigt, macht Felicity das Leben auch nicht leichter. Denn Felicity hat unschöne Erfahrung in der Vergangenheit gemacht, die sie in der Nähe zu einem Mann in Angst erstarren lässt.
Jedoch lässt sich Max nicht davon abbringen, Felicity für sich zu gewinnen, auch noch als sich seine Absichten von einer losen Affäre zu einem für immer geändert haben.
Lediglich seine Aktivitäten, die Max im geheimen tätigt, stehen seinem Wunsch im Weg. Doch gerade das zeigt Felicity, dass Max ihr für ihr Seelenheil gefährlich werden kann und doch fühlt sie sich immer stärker zu ihm hingezogen.
Kann es unter diesen Umständen eine gemeinsame Zukunft für beide geben, oder steht zuviel zwischen ihnen?
Die Story hat mich schnell in ihren Bann gebracht, dabei bleibt sie abwechslungsreich sowie spannungsgeladen. Man darf mit Felicity und Max mitfiebern und die verschiedesten Emotionen erleben. Es gibt einiges zum schmunzeln bis herzhaft zu lachen, so manche mitfühlende Momente und das ein oder andere Tränchen zu vergießen.
Ich konnte das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen, da ich erfahren wollte, ob es Felicity und Max gelungen war, einen Chance für ihre Liebe zu bekommen.
Das Buch bekommt von mir eine Lese / Kaufempfehlung und 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sterne.

Mal wieder ging es für mich thematisch ins Regency Genre. Ich liebe Handlungen, welche in dieser Zeit spielen. Das ist für mich so ein weg träumen an andere Orte. Auch liebe ich den Kleidungsstil und die Gesellschaftsformen sehr. Daher war ich ganz neugierig, was mich hier erwarten wird.
Bei diesem Buch handelt es sich um den zweiten Teil der Reihe „Liebe in stürmischen Zeiten“. Keine Angst ihr könnt die Bücher ganz unabhängig von einander lesen, da die Handlungen in sich abgeschlossen sind.
In dieser kompletten Reihe, welche 5 Bücher beinhaltet dreht es sich um mutige Frauen und schneidige Herren. Liebe, Leidenschaft und Sinnlichkeit in Zeiten der Revolution.
Der Schreibstil der Autorin liest sich sehr angenehm und flüssig. Ich wurde richtig gefesselt und mitgenommen auf die Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle. Auch wenn hier die Revolution und auch Krieg und Machtgier eine Rolle spielen, fühlte ich mich nicht überladen von geschichtlichen Ereignissen. Alles was ich als Leserin wissen muss, wurde mir nahegebracht.
Felicity hat sich als Sängerin einen Namen gemacht. Doch sie hat sich aufopferungsvoll um ihre Eltern gekümmert. Leider sind sie verstorben und Felicity macht sich auf den Weg von Amerika nach Wien. Denn sie hat ihrem Vater versprochen eine Nachricht bei der Botschaft zu übergeben. Bei einem Konzert ist Maximilian von Berg von der jungen Sängerin begeistert, doch ihm steht nur der Sinn nach einer Sache. Da hat er die Rechnung ohne Felicity gemacht. Sie ist geprägt von seelischen Narben und lässt kaum jemanden an sich heran. Je mehr Maximilian sie kennenlernt und sympathischer wird er. Er ist behutsam und einfühlsam. Er merkt schnell er empfindet mehr als nur das Besitzdenken für sie. Doch Felicity empfindet sich als nicht gut genug für einen Grafen.
Auch Felicitys Vergangenheit spielt hier eine enorme Rolle und die Aufgabe welche Graf Maximilian von Berg hat.
Werden die Beiden die Hürden überwinden und einen gemeinsamen Weg finden?
Ich hab mich unglaublich wohl gefühlt beim Lesen und muss sagen, das ich richtig gefesselt war.
Die Beschreibungen der Orte, Handlungen und Situationen sind sehr authentisch. Auch Maximilian und Felicity hab ich in mein Herz geschlossen. Auch wenn der Graf mir anfangs sehr unsympathisch war. Aber man sieht, Meinungen können sich ändern mit der Entwicklung der Charaktere.

While I can’t improve on the author’s blurb what I can do is tell you about the book. As I read the story I was stuck by the author’s attention to detail. The story occurs during the Austro-Hungarian Revolution of 1848. The dashing and daring Count Maximilian Berg, a double agent, serves as an officer for the government and is part of the revolutionary movement dedicated to overthrowing the tyrannical government. The author’s historical research is impeccable and her descriptive language and imagery is so incredible it pulls you into the story so that you experience and envision it as she does.
Felicity Allen, a lovely, American opera singer has arrived in Vienna to fulfill a deathbed promise to her father. While performing at the home of the Count and Countess von Berg she meets their son, the Count Maximilian Berg. When Felicity and the strikingly handsome Max first meet the relationship between them is intense. She finds him arrogant and boorish. He is determined to get her into his bed and she rebuffs his advances. But it’s too late, the spark that connects them has been lit between both. The story is passionately told and beautifully written.
Nina Belmont’s writing is rich in both historical content, imagery and language. She skillfully weaves historical figures, beautiful locales and situations into her stories creating believable characters and scenes. The emotional energy and sensuality that’s woven through this story is breathtaking. Her scenes are rich in anticipation, culmination and flow. Her characters are detailed, likable, and believable. The love story is ever evolving and exquisite despite the complexities of the past. I was totally immersed in this thrilling tale of romance, love, double identity, treachery, spies, danger and this lovely city. The author renders a story beautifully written and wonderfully told. Ms. Beaumont is one of my favorite authors.

The time and place where the book is set are not seen often and is a breath of fresh air. It opens very quickly to the attraction of the hero and heroine with each other.
At the very beginning, the hero (Max) is tempted to simply take what he wanted from the heroine (Felicity) but he doesn't. He realises Felicity is more than just her famous voice and looks.
They have their demons which are slowly dealt with through the course of the book. Has elements of actual history woven into the plotline.
The pace runs a little on the fast side of things but the scenes are properly set up that it doesn't feel overly short. There is character development, actions from the characters showing what they are. Not just placeholders for the story to move forward.
I would recommend this for development and the book's setting.

Count Maximilian Berg has his own ghosts, but his focus is on secretly paving the way for greater freedom for Austria. When he meets Felicity, his desire for her is immediate.
He asks her to become his mistress but this isn't what Felicity wants to hear. She is too frightened of men in general to have an intimate encounter with Max or any man.
This book was an OK read. It is not good enough to draw me to read more books by this author.
I gave this book 3.25 of 5.0 stars for plot, story line and characterization. It was a difficult read and hard to enjoy.

There's a lot of action, a fair dose of angst, moments of nail-biting suspense, and thorough it all, the steady drumbeat two hearts determined to unite forever. Thoroughly researched, historically accurate, fascinating and engrossing - here's a historical romance like few others I've read. I heartily recommend it! This is a voluntary ARC review.

This is the second installment in the Fearless Women Historical Romance series. Felicity is an American and a gifted singer making a career in Europe. Because of her scarring experiences from the past, she has difficulty trusting men. Maximilian also has his own demons he is dealing with, but the two seem to have a strong connection. While of course the romance is wonderful, there is also the tension of political instability and suspense that really keeps you glued to the story. With strong characters and a captivating storyline, I was engrossed all the way through. Really good series!

I liked this book quite a bit better than Sapphire Magic, it’s predecessor in the Fearless Women Historical Romance Series. It was fun to meet some of the characters from Sapphire Magic later in their lives. And, while this book provided plenty of steam, the steamy scenes seemed a bit more subordinate to the plot and were used effectively to demonstrate how difficult it can be for a woman who has been sexually abused to let go of that trauma enough to experience love and sexual pleasure. The setting, in a rough and unsettled period of Austria’s history, and the characters participation in the historical drama, squarely distinguished this book from its predecessor’s Hallmark Channel vibe and made it edgier and more interesting for me. Now I’m curious to see where Ms Beaumont goes with the next books in the series.

Bei einem ihrer Auftritte trifft sie auf Maximilian von Berg, der sofort von ihr angetan ist und auch keine Zeit verstreichen lässt, ihr klarzumachen, was er von ihr möchte. Doch dafür ist Felicity nicht zu haben. Nachdem sie Schreckliches erlebt hat, kann sie keinem Mann mehr vertrauen und weist ihn ab. Max, der nach und nach erkennt, was er wirklich von ihr möchte, beginnt damit, ihr Vertrauen zu gewinnen und schlussendlich hoffentlich auch ihr Herz. Ob es ihm gelingen wird, Felicity von seiner Aufrichtigkeit zu überzeugen?

Die liebenswerten Figuren sind tiefgründig ausgearbeitet worden, haben mich in ihren Bann gezogen, wodurch ich mitgelitten, mitgefiebert habe. Der Schreibstil ist angenehm zu lesen sowie bildreich und atmosphärisch. Einmal angefangen, lässt einen das Buch kaum mehr los. Die Welt erwachte zum Leben. Ich konnte mir alles plastisch vorstellen und mir war es, als wäre ich selbst vor Ort und würde mit Felicity und Max das Abenteuer zusammen erleben.
Teilweise überraschende Wendungen, das Aufarbeiten der Vergangenheit der beiden Protagonisten und die damit zusammenhängende Achterbahn der Gefühle - ich habe so ziemlich alles durchlebt, wie Freude, Trauer, Furcht, Liebe - haben für einen hohen Spannungsbogen bis zum Schluss gesorgt. Eine Liebesgeschichte mit Action und Nervenkitzel, mit willensstarken und mutigen Figuren, die ihren Weg gehen und bereit sind für das zu kämpfen, was ihnen lieb und wichtig ist. Trotz den ernsteren Themen hat sich die Geschichte nie erdrückend oder schwer angefühlt. Mit Humor an den richtigen Stellen wurde alles aufgelockert.
Ich habe sehr gerne das zweite Buch gelesen, obwohl ich mit Geschichtsunterricht nicht wirklich etwas anfangen konnte, fand ich es interessant, was hier über und zum Bürgerkrieg in Wien geschrieben wurde. Ich kann zwar nicht genau sagen, was erfunden und was aus den Geschichtsbüchern entnommen wurde, aber was ich sagen kann, ist, dass es sich realistisch und glaubwürdig angefühlt hat mit Felicity und Max all die Hürden, die Herausforderungen und den Krieg (alles rund um die damalige Politik) zu erleben.

Eine bezaubernde, fesselnde Geschichte mit Figuren, die mein Herz erobert haben. Ich habe mich gut unterhalten gefühlt und hatte beim Lesen meinen Spass. Die Autorin hat die politischen Hintergründe und die Liebesbeziehung gut miteinander verwoben und in eine abwechslungsreiche, glaubwürdige Handlung verpackt. Empfehlenswert für all diejenigen, die in historischen Romanen nebst Romantik auch Action und politische Elemente bevorzugen. Spannung bis zum Schluss garantiert.

Felicity Allen hat sich in Wien einen Namen als Sängerin gemacht. Bei einem ihrer Auftritte trifft sie auf Maximilian von Berg, der sofort von ihr angetan ist und auch keine Zeit verstreichen lässt, ihr klarzumachen, was er von ihr möchte. Doch dafür ist Felicity nicht zu haben. Nachdem sie Schreckliches erlebt hat, kann sie keinem Mann mehr vertrauen und weist ihn ab. Max, der nach und nach erkennt, was er wirklich von ihr möchte, beginnt damit, ihr Vertrauen zu gewinnen und schlussendlich hoffentlich auch ihr Herz. Ob es ihm gelingen wird, Felicity von seiner Aufrichtigkeit zu überzeugen?
