Sheriff Lucas Jamison was the law in his small bayou town. And secretary Mariah Harrington had often weathered his powerful fury as she stood between him and her boss, the mayor. But when her son was kidnapped, Mariah knew Lucas wouldn't rest until he was found. With no witnesses and no leads, she also knew she'd have to reveal her damning secrets to this straight-arrow lawman. But that was the least of her worries, as her paralyzing fear turned into passionate comfort in his arms. With a sadistic kidnapper taunting them both with dead-end clues and a ticking clock, it would take something unexpected and precious to give them strength and bring back her son against all odds….
Again a quick read, but all her novels seem to be the same story over and over. Would like more thought and emotion in the characters and less talk of making coffee, and pouring coffee, and cleaning up the cups after coffee. Yes we all know adults drink coffee, now lets move on shall we.
I really enjoyed this book. As I read the story I could feel Mariah's heart ache, and uncontrollable emotions as any mother would feel if her child was kidnapped. Mariah came home from work, and found her son, and Jenny (the sheriff's sister) gone. Jenny was renting a room from Mariah. She wasn't worried. Jenny was really good with Billy. Mariah thought the two was still at the park. Mariah closed her eyes for a moment, and sleep over took her. She woke up a little while longer, and Jenny and Billy were still gone. She checked the park, but they were not there. It was not like Jenny to not let Mariah know where she was taking Billy. Mariah had no choice but to call sheriff Lucas Jamison. Lucas was not worried at first. He didn't find any signs of forced entry, or any sign of a crime. As the minutes turned into hours he started to worry. Mariah, and Lucas was forced into a sick game of hide and seek. The caller would call with clues to help them find Billy, and Jenny. The suspense and action was really good. The emotions of both Mariah, and Lucas could be felt throughout the pages. Lucas had his job, and Jenny. He didn't date. He only needed his baby sister. Mariah was a single mom hiding from a past. Her only focus was on Billy, and her job. It was sweet having Lucas and Mariah leaning on each other and building up a friendship as they searched for their loved ones. That friendship turned passion. The end caught me by surprise. I love it when I can't figure out who the villain is before it's reviled. Great story.
As usual,Carla has written another exciting storyline. This book kept me guessing throughput the book. Although there are some typos it wasn't enough to make me quit reading.
