This children's book captures cat behavior really well. In the story, A cat works really hard to catch the rats in the city to protect the children and people from them. He doesn't get any acknowledgment for his work, until one day he manages to save a family from a fire. He then becomes an official member of the police department and continues his work protecting children at night. This story shows a lot of cat behavior and even a rivalry with dogs: Truman the police dog.

This is a beautiful book about a brave police cat whose heroism is overlooked, because, as Rita sang on Animaniacs "Cats always get the short end of the stick."

But when a police dog almost gets the credit for Police Cat's biggest act of heroism yet, he is belatedly recognized as animal who actually alerted a family to a fire.
