After spending sixteen years behind bars for brutally murdering the man who killed my wife, I was released earlier than expected thanks to my daughter-in-law. I never resented my time in prison. I knew what I was doing from the moment his first drop of blood fell, until I turned myself in days later.
I was thrilled to be back home with what was left of my friends and family, though I wasn’t sure where I’d fit in after being gone so long. I shouldn’t have worried. My brothers are my brothers for a reason. After the initial welcome home party, they carried on as if I’d always been there.
Life was good. I was content. Wasn’t wanting for anything. Then, a little girl asked me if she could have a flower from my wife’s grave, and she stole my heart. Little did I know, so would her mother.

I found this on KU while looking up second-chance widow romance… I’m a sucker for the trope. I didn’t realize it was part of a series or so short, and things didn’t shake out how I predicted, but I still enjoyed it.
The blurb sets this up, Bear just got out of jail after serving 15 years for killing the man that murdered his wife when he meets a little girl and her mother at the cemetery. I did not read the other books, so I’m not sure how long he’s been out or what the story is behind the murder, but he’s already dealt with the death and isn’t broody or hanging onto guilt.
Bottom Line- This was a clean/easy romance. Not clean in terms of content (they have sex and kill people) but clean in that it’s not a messy dynamic. Both are widows, both are open to new relationships, there’re no OW/OM issues at all, no obstacles, etc. Basically, there’s no angst, but I found them both likable and there is action/suspense to keep the plot moving. *It was obvious that I was missing some backstory with the baddies, but I never felt lost. I may look back at some of the others, I think the audiobooks are on Everand, but I’ve maxed out most of my listens for the month.
It's been a minute since I've read a Teagan Brooks book and let me tell you, it was totally worth the wait!
This was a quick read that was filled with all the good stuff. You have Bear who is just a good man with a tough past but his heart is most definitely in the right place. He's caring, helpful, tough, sexy, sweet, and just everything.
Mackenzie is a wonderful mom who is devoted to her daughter Brinkley. She's had a rough go of things but still manages to keep a smile on her face. Brinkley stole the entire story for me. Loved her!
I wasn't expecting the bad guy in this story to turn out to be who they were. Well, there were a couple. Everything happened quickly, but it's a short story so that is how things go with them. I would have liked the story to be a bit longer but it was still a great story.
Bear is a newer character, one always around, but since he was in jail, we didn't know him. With him getting out, it's been fun to see him with Batta and Tatum. This one we get to see what kind of a man he is, jail didn't change him and that protective streak is still there.
You wouldn't think he would work with Mackenzie, with their age difference, but they did. Mackenzie realized Bear was a good man, despite his being in jail. And when trouble came to her door step, she was lucky to have someone like Bear around.
Bear and the MC were able to take care of business so that Mackenzie was safe and won the girl at the same time. Nice to see happy times ahead for this family.
Nothing like a short read with alpha males who fall fast and hard.
Oh Teagan how I missed your books. It’s been awhile but so happy we got Bear story. His Name may sound intimidating but he’s a big softy for his girls.
“Here it is!” she (Brinkley) announced and proudly carried a flower to Mackenzie. “It’s for you and Bear. Merry Christmas!” she said and smiled so widely it made my(Bear) face hurt. “Thank you,” Mackenzie said while she bent down to hug her daughter. “That was very sweet of you.” “It’s from Daddy and Mystical.” “From who?” Mackenzie asked with a hint of alarm in her tone, which had me instantly on edge. “From Daddy and Mystical.” “Who’s Mystical?” Mackenzie asked slowly. “The pretty lady with the pretty flowers who lives near Daddy.” “Miss Nicole,” I said (Bear) softly. ~Teagan Brooks
Bear spent sixteen (16) years in prison for murdering the man who killed his wife. After returning home while visiting his wife's grave a little girl named Brinkley asks if she could have a flower from his wife's grave. Bear noticed a vehicle following Mackenzie.
Later, there paths cross again, and Brinkley is enamored with Bear inviting him to make cookies. Bear finds himself watching over the pair because of the vehicle following and informs Mackenzie.
He has the club looking into the mystery creeper. All while falling for the inquisitive Brinkley and the lovely Mackenzie.
It may be a short read but well worth it. I'm definitely starting installment number seven (7) now.
It's been a minute since I've read a book from Teagan Brooks but I'm glad she's back! Bear from the Blackwings MC: Devil Springs Chapter was great. A quick read packed with twists and turns, insta-love, and adorable kids. The spicy and violent scenes were played down a bit for me. In this book you have Bear who is Batta's dad and he's trying to get back to a normal life since getting out of prison. One day at his wife's grave he meets an adorable little girl Brinkley and her mom MacKenzie, who was a widow herself. Front the start of them meeting Bear is protecting her when he notices she is being followed. They were instantly in love and after trouble found it's way to them their new relationship jumped into overdrive like we see a lot with Alpha Bikers in books. After waiting so long for Teagan to release a new book it was a bit disappointing that it wasn't longer than it was. I was able to read it in one sitting and there could have been so much more added to it. I really hope she's isn't done with this series and comes out with a few more books. I like these guys and their Ol' Ladys especially Tatum who is Bear's daughter in law.
I was consumed from the very first page. My only complaint about this book is it wasn't long enough. Lol. I know it's a short story but I really wish there was more. Don't get me wrong, even though it's a short story it has everything a full book would. Bear is a widower as is Mackenzie and when these two meet it's the last place you'd expect but it was under the best circumstances, all because MacKenzie's 3 year old daughter Brinkley who is total cuteness overload has a love of pretty flowers. Bear is a big bad@ss biker who sadly lost the love of his life. He definitely never expected to ever find love again. When he meets MacKenzie and Brinkley his heart started beating again for the first time since his wife died. This book is full of smokin hot sexiness, laugh out loud moments and so much excitement. Little Brinkley definitely steals the show. Lol. I absolutely love MC books with big bad@ss bikers with children. This short story has everything you could possibly want or need in a book and it's an amazing addition to the series. I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO EVERYONE!
I was so excited when this book was released, it has been so long since Teagan Brooks published a book, but you know what they say, good things come to those who wait. I would have waited a long time for more books in the Blackwing MC universe.
I figured going into this story that this was a full length novel but was kind of disappointed to find out that it was a novella. Something about this novella missed the mark for me. It was choppy and the story did not flow. I felt like this should have been a full-length novel because it definitely had the potential to be so much more. This conflict, characters, and plot could have been more fully fleshed out. It just would have made this book so much better.
It actually hurts my soul to say this because I love this series so much and I have almost all the books in paperback but this book made me a little disappointed especially after waiting so long for a release. That is why this book is only getting 3 stars from me. While I did not thoroughly enjoy this book I am excited for what Teagan Brooks has in store.
Bear by Teagan Brooks is a quick but truly enjoyable MC read! Bear really is the whole package. He's alpha protective, sweet, caring, sexy, and absolutely swoon-worthy. They may share a decent age-gap but the connection and chemistry between Bear and Mckenzie was so naturally effortless. Loved them together. Single mum Mackenzie is kind, sweet and such an incredible mum to the adorable little Brinkley. Life has not been easy for Mackenzie but she comes across as so strong and resilient. You can't help but admire and adore her. Brinkley is such an adorable girl who almost stole the spotlight in this story.
This really was a fast paced journey with a little action, a sprinkling of suspense, some romance, and an unexpected twist. Yes! It would have been nice for the story to have been a little longer but it was still and enjoyable ride. Looking forward to the next in the series!
This is a cute Christmas short featuring a significant age gap (heroine is 27 but younger than hero’s son) that manages to find its way into being not too creepy. Featuring widowed single mother Mackenzie who randomly meets widowed, recently out of jail, Bear (Batta’s father) at the cemetery where they’re both visiting their late, beloved spouses, this second chance at love after grief story is sweeter than it is dark and I really enjoyed it. The premise is that Bear meets Mackenzie and finds out she’s being stalked and takes it upon himself to watch out for her and her adorable daughter. It’s super fast-paced and readable with a really sweet finish. There are some dark elements to it but for an Max romance, overall it’s a very light, Christmassy read..
In true Teagan fashion you will find yourself devouring this quick read. I loved watching these two getting to know one another and finding their happiness. Little Miss Brinkley is as spunky as she is cute and her ability to not know a stranger changed her and her mothers life. Bear is a man who is not afraid to follow his gut instincts when he feels like his girls may be in trouble. I loved getting caught up with a few of the past characters and am looking forward to seeing more from these characters in the future.
After getting released early from prison, Bear is glad to be with his son and back in the fold. Vengeance had hold of him for long enough and now he is embracing life again. What he did not expect was Mackenzie and her little daughter to worm their way into his heart. Can he have a second chance at love?
I was curious if we would get a Bear story and this one lived up to my expectations. I really enjoyed Bear and Mackenzie together, wish the story was a bit longer but well worth the read.
I really loved this book. So sweet, so goid. Loved the ending. So wonderful to have a little more of this series that I have so enjoyed. The only thing I have a complaint with is that it was too short. I want more! I want more interaction with the other characters. I want more time with and information about all the other couples and families. I'm not ready to finish reading this one. More, just please more
Firstly, Teagan Brooks is an amazing author and has never failed to write an phenomenal book.
Ok, now for the review.
I didn’t expect a book for Papa Bear, but I’m glad there is. I didn’t even know I wanted it until I was a chapter in. I’m also happy that it’s with Mackenzie and they both find love.
My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Hopefully I don’t have to wait for the next book. *Crossing my fingers*
I love that Bear and Mackenzie both got their happy endings. I also love that certain others got not so happy endings. I love Blackwings and have been reading them for years. In all honesty, I was disappointed in Bear. It felt forced, rushed and not at all realistic.
This is a steamy romance. It also contains violence and cursing. I do recommend it for adults but not with the same gusto as I would all the others.
I chose this rating because this was a pretty good short story. I enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of protection, compassion, kindness, awareness, and falling in love. I enjoyed Bear and MacKenzie story. I think the author did a pretty great job putting these characters together. Great read! I recommend this book to all MC lovers and romance readers.
Method: ebook Rating:4/5 stars H rating: 4/5 - Bear h rating:4/5 - Mackenzie Drama:4/5 Trope(s):MC Thoughts: Great series, doing a re-read until I get to the ones I've missed.
Bear newly out of prison and getting to grips with he new found free being back with his son and club meets McKenzie and her daughter for this Christmas time age gap love story starts out with a chance meeting and a little danger turns out not only bears chance for love again but McKenzies great short story hope there is more blackwings mc in the future
McKenzie and Bear meet in a cemetery. Bear is visiting his dead wife and McKenzie is there for her deceased husband. McKenzie mother tries to kidnap her granddaughter for ransom. The storyline is interesting and captivating in the conclusion of this novel.
Bear falls for MacKenzie and her little girl rather quickly. When he realizes that MacKenzie is being followed, he appoints himself their guard. Truths come out and secrets revealed!
I loved Bear's care of his two girls. I really loved MacKenzie's strength.
I'm unfortunately disappointed. Im also glad that this was on kindle unlimited. The romance was rushed the action was rushed I don't even know if the villain in the story was truly punished . It bothers me to give a bad review because Tegan usually does an amazing job with her books but I really feel like this was all rushed and it took away from the story itself.
Bear is adjusting to being out of prison and meets Mackenzie. He falls fast for her and her daughter
Bear wasn't looking for love but it found him when he least expected it. Mackenzie and Brinkley were everything he never knew he needed. Bear is just as I hoped he would be and his story doesn't disappoint.
They meet in an unlikely place . Bear fresh out of prison and Mackenzie's single mom raising her daughter. They met when her daughter introduced herself to Bear. Their romance was instant, Bear was all in but first they had to get rid of the threat to Mackenzie and her daughter.
This series never gets old the author always keeps it fresh.
Was very happy to get a new book by this great author! I love the black wings Mc . It was great getting Bears story I just wish it was longer. Brinley was a such a sweet character. My only complaint is I wish that their could have been more interaction with Batta and Brinley coming brother and sister...
I can't even tell you the number of times I kept checking back tower if there was another Teagan Brooks book out yet. This is a pretty quick read. But she managed to pack a ton into those pages while still bringing us the kind of story that will have you wishing you had your own Bear.
If any of the characters deserved their happy ending and the ultimate surprise/blessing at the end it was bear. This entire series has been one I just couldn’t put down. The characters are amazing and grow throughout the series. Each stories tied yet completely unique. This is a must read!
