"Forever Becoming" is an epic, timeless tale. God thrusts Makaila, her sister, into the temporal to learn about Her creation. Makaila is born of flesh, ignorant of who and what she is. Though a produce of human reproduction, Makaila is divine, also. She cannot be normal. She's deemed a danger to herself and others, illegally institutionalized for life ¬- at age eleven.

Makaila is released 18 months later, where we enter the story. At almost fourteen years old, young Makaila faces off with a secret pseudo-government agency, the agency wanting Makaila back in the institution or dead, to protect society.

Forever Becoming books one and two which is the first offering from Kasey Klein and is part of an eight book series entitled the Makaila Series.

Given the title of the series it is obvious that the story follows the story of the young Makaila, a girl whose life has already been too hard in many respects. Kasey touches on these dark and somewhat taboo events as though they are normal every day things, and for his heroine they are. They are simply thing which have happen, some of which she understand, others she doesn’t. These touched upon subjects, sometime elaborated upon and sometimes not, make you feel for the character and want to know exactly what happened. The story is compulsive reading, louring you in as you wait for Kasey to reveal what’s really going on.

Kasey carefully crafts an understanding for his reader of how Makaila thinks and views the world which adds a real understanding to a way of thinking that many, if not most of us, are unable to truly comprehend. His characters are believable and well written which makes for an added richness to his story. Overall it is pleasing to read and very entertaining.

A teacher of mine once said that one of the best complements an author can receive is that their story is a page turner. Forever Becoming certainly is that. It’s not often I’ll find myself compulsively reading until unnatural times in the morning. I suspect I won’t be the only one who finds themselves still reading at 2am in the morning.
I’ve enjoyed the first book and am busily working my way through the second. Well done Kasey, it’s certainly one to read.
