After her boyfriend of six years dumped her six months earlier, wanting to try to be more adventurous, small town girl, May Ellison decides she'll do the same thing. She agrees to a weekend at Hush hotel in New York with a man she's only met once and flirted with online since. When she arrives though, she learns that man won't be arriving (and that he's married) and she'll be alone a new and strange city. She's not sure she's cut out for the adventure and contemplates going home...but then she meets Beck, an author looking for inspiration at the hotel. With him she tries to be sophisticated and to take those adventurous risks she's afraid of. But Beck can sort of see through it and he's intrigued by the combination of worldliness and innocence she projects. As they start to fall in love, May realizes that she's fallen in love with a man who has no idea who she is and would probably be bored with the real May. But Beck tries to get her to understand that it's been her all along. When her ex-boyfriend shows up and tempts May with a return to safety and security, she'll need to figure out which May she wants to be.

This was a strong installment to the series. I didn't love it, but I didn't dislike it either. I think I struggled to connect to May, who was a bit on the weird side in giving herself a different persona (named Veronica). She also had some crazy self-esteem issues related to how exciting she believed herself to be...she thought she was pretty dull and that no one interesting would therefore like her. I liked her relationship with Beck and that they spend enough time together to really get to know one another (even if May wasn't revealing much background). They also had some pretty good chemistry. It was unfortunate though that May kept thinking back to her ex-boyfriend, kind of longingly and the comfort and security that he provided. I think for a moment she actually considered going back to him. I felt like this was a woman who needed to find herself and maybe wait on a relationship, but Beck wasn't pushing for too much anyway. I think he recognized that about her.

Also, one particular scene had me laughing and cringing simultaneously. May gives Beck a handjob under the table at the erotic night club. The description clearly shows that Beck ejaculates while her hand is around him, and then absolutely no mention of clean up. Instead, they're reaching for water glasses, she's touching his face and I'm just thinking, eeew. That's quite a continuity error.

Sweet yet sexy Blaze romance
5 stars

May Ellison needs a sexual adventure. After being dumped by her boyfriend of 6 years for being too boring and predictable - she heads to the erotic hotel Hush in New York for a week of sinful pleasures with a man. Definitely a change from her normal small town life.

But when he fails to materialise - May's hopes of an adventure are crushed until star author Beck Desmond checks into the hotel. He's meant to be revising scenes for his latest action thriller but is having a little writer's block so he manages to persuade May to be his inspiration for the week. But when the week is over both May and Beck must decide whether it was just fiction or the real thing.

This is another book in Blaze's Do Not Disturb series which revolve around the gorgeous Hush hotel. Although part of this series - it completely stands alone as the main recurring theme tends to be the hotel rather than the people in it, although one or two from previous and future books do pop up.

I really loved this book and it makes a great addition to the series. May is so easy to identify with - she's sweet and fun with a wicked streak in her and she is very real in the way that she muses over her problems and the decisions she has to make. I adored her. Beck is also a great hero but then I do love the strong, brooding types! The way he treats May and how he is so unsure is very sweet to read - even with all the sensual fun that goes on in the hotel.

The story really draws you in and never does the author take you down the obvious plot route with silly misunderstandings or overblown conflict. The story keeps you wanting to turn the pages and see how things work out.

The sex scenes in this book are not as hot as I've read in some other Blaze novels and I might even say the main love scene was slightly anti-climactic. But that's probably only because the build-up and tension beforehand were so well written and exciting that it couldn't be anything but.

Overall - this is an excellent, well-written romance which is perfect for those who enjoy Blaze romances. May and Beck really make this book come alive and I would definitely recommend it.

This is an exceptionally good romance novel. Ms. Sharpe creates very believable characters (although in a not-entirely-believable plot, but hey, you have to suspend reality just a little - it's fiction!) and then carefully develops each character through the course of the book. I am a (male) psychotherapist and I have actually assigned this novel to women who are trying to bust out of assumptive roles or self-concepts and become more authentically sensual and sexy. The mental process that the main character undergoes is fun to talk about in-session and leads to some parallels and insights. I have also assigned it to men who need a little character development of their own: they stay tuned for the sex but also have created some good parallels with the male lead who is successful, very masculine in his presentation, and goes through the process of starting with lust and ending with love. Obviously, I recommend this one!

Setting: her hometown – Oshkosh, Milwaukee; HUSH Hotel, Manhattan, New York – sexy room, Erotique Bar, roof garden, tasteful sex show;

Theme: finding your true, unrestrained self; falling in love – with the expectation of adventure;

Characters:
May Hope Ellison: small town girl, small town expectations – steady, interesting job, a man to love, have a family with, grow old together… she thought she had it, until her fiancé of 6 years said he wanted more excitement, and left her; a few months passed, she met a guy who came to town, and continued to meet online… until he invited her to New York, to HUSH, an exclusive, sensual centered hotel, for a week – she goes wanting to indulge her sexuality, and hoping for more of a relationship… she mentally takes on Veronica Lake’s persona to deal with the unknown… going through the airport, calling a taxi, walking into the lobby of HUSH, going down for a drink by herself… etc.

Beck Desmond: writer (Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Adams star of 6 books in 6 years); his 7th book is centered at HUSH, so he is staying there while he writes it… but his editor/publisher want a gentler hero who falls in love… and he is having trouble… his editor directs him to start with where the feme fatale is masturbating in front of Mack – telling him it is like a 15 year old’s imagination of such…

Trevor Little: rich, married playboy… he regularly brings a different woman to HUSH when his wife believes he is on business… to the point that the HUSH staff know his routine… one day for flowers with a note, spa day (with Brazilian wax), bracelet, sexy negligee, and a chocolate penis…

Clarissa Armstrong: gardener of HUSH; well loved in her happy 30 +year marriage, and shares and encourages May to take a risk (knowing Beck)… and warns her about Trevor… offers her a job as her assistant when encouraging her to stay in New York;

Ertha Kitty: official hotel can with the run of the place – showed up one day and never left.

Janice Foster (General Manager HUSH Hotel) and the rest of the staff we only see them through emails – nice touches of humor as their emails forewarn us of what is to come, and we get ther commentary on the guests.

Summary: In May’s 5 days at HUSH, she and Beck spend time together, and bit by bit get to know one another – they don’t spend every minute together (new idea in a love story) – as she is pushing her boundaries, and he is working on a book… perhaps most unbelieveable is when she masturbates for him on their 2nd night of knowing one another… he asked on their 1st meeting, for her to describe it (for his book)… thinking as she was Trevor’s guest she would perhaps be open to such a discussion – she daringly offers to show him… and first tries it with a dildo from her room and the way she imagined it should be done… but with his gentle encouragement shows him how she really does it… (and he storkes himself to climax too)… but they don’t fall in bed together until night 4 – hmmmm

Day by day, her real self - not her small town self, not the Veronica Lake self, but her true self emerges – and as his feelings grow, he can incorporate that into his book (his editor loves the rewrites)… and they fall in love… and she stays in New York…

Memorable Scenes:
“the cat sat, curled her tail around herself and gave May a stare that would shame an empress. Next time May needed lessons in cool, she’d have to remember that look.”

On her spa day… she finds out a Brazilian wax isn’t a type of wax… but an intrusive removal (even back there) of hair, except a small strip…
“Whenever he got involved with a woman, the same set of rules applied. He was attracted, turned on the confidence, the charm, the women fell, he enjoyed them, lusted, was mildly infatuated for a while and then things quieted down to a nice level of companionship that suited him fine and caused the women no end of aggravation and resentment, and eventually they broke it off…. Until… the encounters he’d had so far with may broke all the patterns he’d gotten so used to … What made her different? He enjoyed her, he lusted, same as usual, but last night he’d experienced something he’d never felt before with a woman. Vulnerability. Anxiety. Even a sense of sadness when he looked ahead to her leaving Friday.”

Some say ‘ and they lived happily ever after… here the ended with=
“I know for a fact you’re going to thrill me… every single day, for the rest of my life.”

Oh so happy-i-fying.... Loved May...she was just so sweet, and so lost, and yet found herself. And Beck was perfect for her. Honestly, LOVED the masturbation part (you'd have to read it to understand)....it was honest, and sexy in its honesty. Thoroughly enjoyed this one....might even go so far as 4.5 stars since I'm still basking in the HEA...

This was actually surprising sweet and romantic, May was a bit annoying and there were a few cliches about but I did believe the romance between her and Beck, and I liked that they really improved each other as people. Probably not quite as much sex scenes as some of the others from this series but that doesn't bother me.

I love this book! It's really about getting to know yourself and overcoming your past. The only thing I would have liked to see happen in it, was the ending come up a little more slow and a bit more lead up to the big ending. Otherwise, a great bok.

One of my all time favourite steamy love stories - I read this one at least once per year. Loved it - it's a keeper.
