Jordan Griffin is an attractive and dedicated assistant editor for Northwest Living Magazine. She is given an assignment to track down and interview one-time nationally renowned broadcast journalist, Reece McAllister who has been living a secretive and reclusive life. To get the story, Jordan follows Reece deep into the backwoods of Washington State. To her surprise, Jordan comes away with far more than just a story. Should she betray a trust or deny her journalistic conscience? Their future together depends on her making the right choice.
Award winner, Kenna White, has been a best-selling romance author with Bella Books since 2004. She was born in a small town in Southwest Missouri, but has lived from the Colorado Rocky Mountains to New England. Splitting time between Puget Sound and the Ozarks where bare feet, faded jeans and lazy streams fill her life, she enjoys her writing, traveling, substitute teaching, making dollhouse miniatures and life's simpler pleasures.
This is my all-time favorite Kenna White book (I have them all). This story of a successful broadcast journalist whose career was ended by an incident that scarred her face is a tale of classic romance. The characters are so well-developed I've found myself re-reading this book so many times the pages fell out of the binding and I had to buy a second copy. Anything Kenna writes is a good read, but this one if my favorite.
This is my first book by this author I think. And man after this Im going to deg deep into her books. I liked the maturity of her writing. i can see it in the dialogue and the development of the story. Anyway I liked the book. I'm satisfied with the depth, also I like how the author went with light dark not too depressing or playing the emotional side too often to the point where I'm going crazy or super sad to continue- if i make since. she gave us the history and how R dealt at the time and how she's adjusting now, so overall i feel like i got whats important from that character
This romance from 2007 I don't think has aged well. The story is fine. Jordan Griffin is an editor for Northwest Living Magazine. She is tasked with getting an interview from Reece McAllister who use to be a nationally known broadcast journalist. Reece is visibly scarred and now exhibits and sells nature photography. Jordan literally forces her way onto a back packing trip to spend time with Reece. I think what might have read has a fun fish out of water story now comes off as stocking and invasion of privacy. Also I personally didn't care for the final scene where Reece is forced to admit feelings. Again reading 14 years ago I might have read these scenes differently.
I actually really enjoyed this novel. It's very much got a classic romance novel structure which I'm not normally a big fan of, but it was executed so well that I didn't mind.
Both Jordan and Reece are very likeable, realistic characters who are neither perfect nor infallible. Their feelings for each other are very clear, and I was very much rooting for them to get together by the end.
The only thing that would have made it even better IMO would have been an epilogue. I definitely still recommend this novel though if you want some of that 2000s lesfic charm.
Great book. What a powerful story. This is a story that everyone of us needs to take to heart. Aren't we all guilty of being judgemental at one time. The mistake of not getting to know someone because of their appearance or situation. Beautifully written. Please ask Audible to add this to their collection.
What I really like about this book is that it doesn’t sugarcoat how difficult it is to live with physical disfigurement, and that, despite the fact, we like to think people are kind, it’s still not easy for anyone to survive in our materialistic world. Reese was witty, smart and engaging, and Jordan was interesting, loving and dedicated.
(From my Amazon review) The majority of the plot sees Jordan Griffin follow Reece McAllister through the backwoods of Washington State. The plot is very descriptive so you can picture the scene as they walk through the countryside. The plot sees both characters change and grow together. At the end you realise that everything is not completely as it seems but this only adds to how you see one of the characters. Thoroughly recommend it.
second star for compulsiveness. if an author keeps me reading nonstop, the least i can do is give her a second star. but the writing is average and the plot über-predictable and clichéd. also, about a gazillion unlikely turns of events.
3.5 stars..I loved the characters and I thought they had some very sweet moments. But it ended so abruptly. I actually said "what the f" after I read the last sentence. Definitely needed an epilogue. A bit cliche but overall mostly enjoyable
3.5 stars A quick read, certainly good writing and enjoyable enough, though it would have ranked higher if I hadn't been a bit bored with the outdoor wilderness adventure theme.
I wasn't wild about this book. I didn't find either character very likable. The plot was good. I just wish the author had made her main characters as good.
I have read this book million times and still love it because Reese can't admit herself to love Jordan as well... It's amazing how Kenna White wrote this book! I recommend you!
