On her way to town, Miss Brindle Cow meets a host of animals who are late for a very important wedding. What can she do? Gracious Miss Cow doesn't miss a beat. One by one, they climb on her back--the organist, the pastor, the florist, and more. But where is the bride?
Eve Bunting's charming text and Iza Trapani's delightful illustrations make a winning pair.
Anne Evelyn Bunting, better known as Eve Bunting, is an author with more than 250 books. Her books are diverse in age groups, from picture books to chapter books, and topic, ranging from Thanksgiving to riots in Los Angeles. Eve Bunting has won several awards for her works.
Bunting went to school in Ireland and grew up with storytelling. In Ireland, “There used to be Shanachies… the shanachie was a storyteller who went from house to house telling his tales of ghosts and fairies, of old Irish heroes and battles still to be won. Maybe I’m a bit of a Shanchie myself, telling stories to anyone who will listen.” This storytelling began as an inspiration for Bunting and continues with her work.
In 1958, Bunting moved to the United States with her husband and three children. A few years later, Bunting enrolled in a community college writing course. She felt the desire to write about her heritage. Bunting has taught writing classes at UCLA. She now lives in Pasadena, California.
I was planning on reading this to my little sister... but I got a little bored today and decided to read it now. I was pleasantly surprised! It is such a cute little book and I know my little sister will love it!
This was a very charming both in text and illustration story. The text is written in rhyme with farm characters on their way to a wedding. Each giving a hand to help one another along the way. Loved this book. My adult special needs son giggled and smiled throughout this book as I read it to him.
Rhyming picture books aren't always my thing . . . but this one was well done, completely adorable, and we loved the surprise ending! Bonus: it was a perfect follow-up to our lesson on the prodigal son a few days ago.
Okay so this book is so cute but I had to dock it one star for the super cringey line towards the end, “I am woman. I am strong.” What is with the improper grammar and cheesiness? The whole book was so perfect and funny! But that line just really irked me. 🤪
Cute story and illustrations. Our eldest daughter was married this month and we picked up this book at the library for our younger kids to enjoy. Fun surprise at the end!
Cute sequential book. I think kids will like watching the animals stack up and the nice rhyme scheme. Sweet twist at the end that I think will surprise kids.
Miss Brindle the cow is on her way to a wedding, picking up friends on the way. A chipmunk is the chef of the wedding but he is lost so the cow takes him along with many other animals that she has picked up. In the end all of the animals invite the cow inside not knowing that she is to be the bride.
The watercolor illustrations are very well done and detailed. The scenery changes as they make their journey to the church with the color scheme staying consistent. The pictures take up the whole page with many details to pay attention to; even the hard covers at the beginning and the end of the book are filled with illustrations.
This book was cute but I only gave it a three because it was very repetitive, though I did like the ending where I found out that Miss Brindle would be the bride. Young children would laugh at the cow throughout the story because she allows so many animals to ride on her back
A cow is on her way to the church and she picks up a few friends along the way. They all climb on her back and ride to the church where everyone is getting ready for the wedding. What you don't see until the end is that it's the cow's wedding. I thought this story was alright because it builds on itself with one animal getting on top of the others. I didn't think there was too much of a meaningful story here, but it's alright for a quick read.
This is a fun, rhyming story about animals on the way to a wedding. It has colorful and detailed illustrations and a simple, entertaining narrative. Our girls enjoyed watching the story on the Tumblebooks website. (tumblebooks.com)
This was a good book to allow children to see how animals are depicted in the story. It shows emotions as well as offering predictions on what happened to the bride. It is hilarious and nice to read. Children will enjoy it.
A pretty fun gentle book. A cow is out for a walk when she meets various animals trying to get to church for a wedding. She helps them all out and gets them to church where she reveals that she is the bride! Beautiful and entertaining illustrations!
A whimsical story of a cow out for a walk...or is she? She takes time to help out multiple friends along the way and when they arrive they all get a bit of a surprise!
It is wedding week in class, so I thought I would read several wedding books for the kids so they knew what I was up to this weekend. This one is adorable.
