This best-selling author of all time wrote 66 crime novels and story collections, fourteen plays, and six novels under a pseudonym in romance. Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.

Note: J'ai seulement lu "Le crime de l'Orient-express"

Les romans policiers, ce n'est pas vraiment des sortes de livre que j'adore lire, mais je pense que "Le crime de l'Orient-express" a changé mon idée.

Hercule Poirut, un détective et le personnage principal, est tellement intelligent et calme que tu ne peux que l'admirer. Le complot fut exceptionel, et ne manqua pas de suspense. L'histoire se passa dans seulement une journée (à peu près), mais tout de même, ce n'était pas plate du tout! Les personnages fut réalisé avec beaucoup de soin et détail, ce qui a résulté à un livre compliqué, dans un sense, mais simple et "agréable" à lire.

"Le crime de l'Orient-express" est le premier livre que j'ai lu qui est par Agatha Christie, mais ça ne sera certainement pas le dernier!

Through the years I've read all of Agatha Christie's novels. I return to "Le Crime de l'Orient Express" because I love trains. (My dream is to travel the world on The Orient Express in a first class compartment.) But I can't imagine starting to read her books as an adult--it's such stultifyingly dull prose. On the other hand it's terrific to read in one's non-native language to slow down the simple writing. One of the reasons Agatha is so good to read in foreign languages is because she writes a lot of dialogue and moreover dialogue spoken by people representing various classes, which means there's a richness of expression that is often lacking in more high-falutin' literature.

Written in 1933, the most interesting position of this novel is the way it clashes nationalities, classes and moral systems in that brief peaceful window between the wars. One hilariously (sadly?) sarcastic piece of prophesy arrives in the German lady's maid ingenuous statement to Hercule Poirot. When informed of the horrid nature of the murder victim's crimes she says,

"Je trouve que c'est une histoire abominable, monsieur. Ce n'est pas chez nous, en Allemagne, qu'on irait commettre des atrocités pareilles."

agatha christie est une amie de mon adolescence si je peux dire elle ma beaucoup aider a voir le monde avec un autre oeil jai adore son style decriture et sa classe a savoir relater les faits avec un peu dhumour de la vieille miss marple qui fouinait partout et se melait a des affairres de crime et jadorais le dernier chapitre toujours parceque jessayais de trouver lindice qui ma echaper et que lecrivain a mise en evidence et je me disais a la fin de la lecture chaque fois il falait le trouver et il ma passer sous le nez bravo miss marple bravo a toi aussi agatha tu es la meilleur.

Goede boeken! Mooie plotwendingen die ik niet zag aankomen. Leest vlot weg, ondanks het vele Frans tussendoor. Wel veel personages dus je moet goed opletten wie wie is. Ik ergerde me soms aan sommige personages en generaliserende opmerkingen (bijvoorbeeld dat vrouwen zwakker zijn en Italianen altijd gewelddadig) en Hercule Poirot vindt zichzelf wel héél geweldig. De vlotte schrijfstijl, de humor soms en het goede plot maken veel goed.

Assassinato no Expresso do Oriente é uma das minhas histórias favorita da Agatha. Eu adorei reler as das historias, dessa vez em forma de quadrinhos.

Morte no Nilo é uma história que eu gosto bastante, mas não lembrava muito, e foi bom reler.

In my opinion, Agatha Christie is the best author in the murder mistery genre, and Hercule Poirot is the most interesting character and detective of all. I think I have read almost all of her books and I would read them again. In this case, I'm rereading Mort sur le Nil to train my French and it was like the first time (that's the good part of getting old... we forget things).
As always, the peculiar detective goes after the signs and clues left by the assassin to reveal his/her name, at last, leaving everybody absolutely surprised with his cleverness.
She's delightful.

the ending is simply brilliant. loved it entirely though
