The Society is determined: Becka must pay for all she has done.
And so they begin a scare campaign, complete with spells and curses. But the campaign quickly gets out of hand and before she knows what’s happening, Becka finds herself in grave danger.
There is only one thing that will save Becka, one thing that she must discover on her own…
Bill Myers was born into a Christian home, and although as a child he became bored with Christianity, he decided at the University of Washington quote, to "make God my boss." Ironically, at the University his worst subject was writing. He claims to have prayed, and said that he would be able to do anything for God, except write. Even so, he has become a prominent Christian writer, and has a large amount of successful books and films to his credit.
Synopsis: Christian teenager Becka Williams has barely returned from an extended stay in the hospital when she gets a mysterious phone call. The person on the other end simply says, "The spell has been cast. Your destiny belongs to me." Becka, her younger brother Scott, and their mother are rather unnerved...but matters go from bad to worse when a local church gets vandalized, and it appears that the vandals were targeting her! Who could be behind such a terrible act? Will Becka and her family stop the attempt on her life before it's too late?
Story: 4.5/5 Now that I'm somewhat well into the series, the characters' identities and backstories have become more familiar. With no need for setup, Bill Myers gets right into the drama and intensity, and, boy, is it riveting, as well as appropriately frightening.
Writing: 4/5 Bill Myers' writing is great, as usual, but this loses at least half of a point because of some rather egregious typos. Still, Mr. Myers has always had a way with words, and it's novels like this that prove it.
Conclusion: Bill Myers has delivered once again. If you've read other books of his and enjoyed them, you should definitely read this, even if you're not in the "young adult" age group. The Forbidden Doors series definitely isn't kid stuff, but, for teens and adults, this is definitely worth reading.
This was a good book. A nice quick read, and a good story line. It is a good book for teen Christians. It has some good lessons such as, resisting temptation and always trusting God with your life.
Read this christian books series as a tween. A horror/paranormal novel with the good guys being the christian teenagers and the bad guys being demons and the like.
I've been reading this series, and this is the 3rd book. I just want more and more. It's sooooo good. This book was a little bit slow compared to the other 2 in this series. What makes it nice is that - Its fast phased, could be read in one sitting and also it talks about God and each book picks up a verse and go through it and gives meaning.
It has meaning to it. I liked the authors note in the end. Its amazing!
If you have a teenage kid and want to recommend this one. Please go for it. The series is just fab. Christian fiction at its best.
these are REALLY quick reads, especially when you're NOT supposed to be doing anything!
i'm SUPPOSED to be grounded to bed today, but i had baking to do for 4-H, so ... i've been laying down reading inbetween batches of whatever, thanks to Elysha's WONDERFUL help today! anyway ...
this book was REALLY scary to me, as i didn't want to believe that kids could/would go so far. once again, tho, i thank God that we have the ability to home school our children, so there's MUCH less chance of them coming up against these kind of people as often! i don't always like living on such a tight budget, but ...
the more and more scary this world becomes, the more and more blessed i know i am to have a tight budget BUT safe kids!!!
ok, time to clean up the kitchen, then back to bed, and the next book in the series!
I really liked this book and how it shows that if you trust in the Lord when you are in danger, you will be safe. However, I somewhat think that Bill Myers portrayed the characters as either good or bad, which seems a little narrow-minded. This is not how it is in real life. All the Christians are looked at as perfect and good. It seems that anyone in the Society are looked at as bad.
Bill Myers, again, writes another good book. The scribe pulls the reader again into another adventure involving the supernatural. I would really like to see some of his books get turned into movies, being that the stories can be told to a non-religious audience as well as to a religious audience. Have somebody like Jonathan Demme direct the project. Myers stories do have a clear message on how to approach the supernatural and who truly has all power. His name is Jesus Christ, the one who is, who was and who is to come. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone regardless of where the are in their spiritual walk. It's a good book. Have a truly blessed day. Oscar R
