I feel as though I've read a different book to everyone who has reviewed this one. To be fair, I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was atrocious. It was read robotically and in the same tone for the entire book. The only changes seemed to be when the narrator changed volume to speak extremely loudly at points throughout the book. Saying that, the actual writing of the book was also terrible. Every cliched saying was included, the main character was completely unlikeable and I found myself not caring what happened to her.

This book was poorly written, the audio leaves a lot to be desired, the ending I simply shook my head, and throughout the whole book, I kept hoping it would get better. Movies have a classification called B rated movies. This is exactly what this book would be. It tried very hard but fell.

Characters trying to act tough fell flat.

Attempting to draw similarities between killers fell flat.

The whole revelation thing at the end and seeing a bigger picture,... um... nope. That also fell flat.

The premise may have been there in the author's head, but tying them up in some sort of semblance where it made a good story and flowed properly didn't happen.

Not recommended 😕

It was okay. Weird but I enjoyed it a little but it didn't seem to make me want to keep reading but I did finish it by audiobook just to get it done.

hmm this book wasn’t bad but i felt there was a lot of build up then within the last 10% of the book she had caught the killer? so the ending just felt rushed, i did actually enjoy the murderers POV which i’m not usually a fan of

Pretty good

## Not the best, but by no means the worst. One thing I don't get is why authors have to write all female agents so damaged. All of them seem to have daddy issues, plus anger management issues with a serial killer dad and/or a missing sister. What I liked was that Eve was a Marine skilled in hand to hand combat so she didn't constantly have to rely on her partner to save her. Another thing I liked was following along with the clues and such. However, I read the synopsis for book 2 thinking I'd give this series another go, but it's the same as this book. Murders similar to her father's crimes. Again?

ABSOLUTE GEM UNTIL THE END

I don't like the cat and mouse type of movies or books, but this one was a pleasant surprise until the end. The story was written very well, and the characters described well, which brings me to my only critique. I would have liked for the reasons ( copycat killer) of the killer to have been more intricate. The build was great, then a substantial letdown. I would still recommend this book, and would be interested in the author and series, I would just suggest, proceed with caution.

What a frustrating book and main character. Eve Hope is the worst FBI agent character ever. For Eve every single man was always the killer until her amazing senses, and I quote "...instinctual organic lie detector...", told her they weren't. I rolled my eyes so many times. She's a horrible, unlikeable, arrogant character.
The writing isn't great either and it definitely needs an editor. I do not recommend.

This was a short and east to read book following FBI agent Eve hope as she hunts down a copycat serial killer who is following in her father's footsteps.

I liked the premise of the book and it was very easy read, but I didn't find the writing to be anything special, and I couldn't connect with the characters.

Interesting tale. It didn’t seem to have a real ending; caught baddie but lead in to next in series was sad and undid the satisfaction of the ‘killer-catch.’ Not as good as the last novel I read by this author. Some profanity. But an ok read. Narration was fine.

unlikeable female hero

FBI agent, Eve Hope, was not my favorite character. Smart but high strung. Quick temper. Doubt I’ll be reading more stories with Eve Hope. Just not interested.

Didn’t care for the narrator or the crass language of a couple of the characters. I’ve read several mysteries lately and they didn’t have the bad language and I story was way better. I bottomed all the books in this series and I don’t think I’m going to continue them.

This is the first book by this author I have read.
Our story begins with an unwitnessed murder that has similarities to other recent murders so is assigned to the FBI, specifically to Agent Hope and her partner, as a serial case. The story is focused on an FBI agent whose father is a serial killer and how her history affects her personally and professionally. We get glimpses of Agent Hope's past during the story both as an agent, as a daughter, and marine. Her partner, a strait-laced agent, is watching her every move and will report any step out of line. Will this affect how she works the case; will it limit her ability to think outside the box, and will it stop her from finding the killer before they can strike again?
The pace was brisk but not so that the story felt rushed. I could have enjoyed another few chapters to really focus on the killer, his motives, reason, and even some background. The world building is limited as it is focus on the area near or surrounding the murders. The characters are interesting, and their dialog is easy to read without being rushed for a short book. I am interested in reading the next book in the series to see if the some of my cons for this author improve in the next installment.

In His Blood, an Eve Hope FBI Suspense Thriller by Kate Bold wasn't as suspenseful as any of the prior several Kate Bold books I've read.

Characters weren't well developed. Eve felt almost one-dimensional. Melborn read like a wimpy tattler who did his best to keep Eve in line and on track.

Based on the books of Ms. Bold I've already read, and the synopsis for this book, I was eager to read this book. I was, however, disappointed in the the way the story moved towards the conclusion, as well as the conclusion itself.

In His Blood felt rushed. The grammar and typo errors, especially nearer the reader gets to the conclusion, were too many to ignore. Especially the grammar errors as where certain words were in a sentence made the sentence almost nonsense. I have not read a book by Ms. Bold before with as many errors this book has.

I have enjoyed the many prior books by Kate Bold, which is why this book is letdown. Kate Bold can write, can develop fleshed out characters, and have an exciting conclusion. Unfortunately, this book isn't one of them.

I usually love these books, but I am glad I didn’t start with this one because I would never hav3 had the pleasure of the rest. This Hope character plucks my nerves. A self indulgent narcissist who does little to nothing, causes drama and as in the bar scene with Hughes can’t even hold onto a glass when she gets excited, But, when her partner goes down, suddenly she takes on a bodyguard 6 ft + and 300 pounds, what a bunch of crap. So unbelievable. I’m sick of all these books having a scrawny, petite female who puts herself in charge, goes after every lead as though she alone has found a serial killer when all she is doing is grasping at straws trying to be the hero. I would love to see a character who is female, knows she is not going to bring down Goliath, is great at her job, not a walking female penis who thinks she rules the world and of course is the only one who can do the Job. Make me like her, root for her, admire her not want to punch her or throw up.

Well! I read the book, not audio & I enjoyed it. It wasn't a truly "gripping, can't put it down" sort of book, but the storyline was good. The characters were believable & it did make me want to finish it. Some places were a bit weak, but on the whole it was an ok sort of book. I personally like a bit more descriptive gore, but this book wasn't that sort of genre. Those that had the audio version were guided by the voice & the way it was read ( which sounded like the narrator needs to find another job) but when you read it yourself, your imagination takes flight & the story becomes what you make it. I NEVER buy audio books, for the same reason all those reviews have complained about. I'd be asleep in a few minutes if I listened to a boring voice with no expression or enthusiasm to it.
So, to the author! " Find yourself someone else to read your books, otherwise your audio fans won't be fans for long."

This is the lst in the series about FBI Agent, Eve Hope. What would you do or become if you found out your father was a serial killer? That is what happened to Eve. Her father was known as the Swallowtail Killer because he left this butterfly pinned to the victim.

Eve hasn't seen her father since his arrest and imprisonment nor is she close to her family. But, now she has been assigned a case that is a copycat of what her father. A woman has been killed with a butterfly attached to her. Now Eve has all kinds of questions. Does this mean that after all these years her father is in prison and he is innocent.

Eve is working with her partner, Melborn. But he is actually watching everything she does and at any chance will "turn her in" to the Chief. As another body is found, Eve is getting closer to finding the killer, but will she also be a new target of this serial killer?

Having a parent behind bars because he is a serial killer is bad enough and it becomes worse when you are an FBI agent. Although her boss had some doubts he allowed her to be the prime investigator in the case where the killer was mimicking her father and leaving a butterfly on the victims. Her partner in this job was a very meticulous agent that would report everything they learned and especially everything she did. Needless to say, they did not have a smooth partnership! In His Blood has a good plot and a well-developed story. In view of the ending, I wonder what will the next book be like! I thank the author for the ARC.

This gives a 'The Locked Door' feels but with more cliffhangers and questions being posed.

Having a serial killer as a father when you're a Marine Corps isn't just the most shocking of all. It's when you turn to your serial killer father, to help you solve copycat crimes related to him that makes all ethical dillemas a step more problematic.

Good story so far, can't wait to start the next book seeing that the murders keep comin'.

How many more are out there? Was it really a copycat crime? Or was the father putting up some elaborate manipulation to give her daughter 'something to play with', as his own sick and twisted form of love?

a really good mystery

Special Agent Eve Hope is trying to catch a killer with the same MO as one already in prison for earlier murders. She’s torn between emotional turmoil and being an agent. What she does want, though, is to catch him before another women is found dead. This is a very good book, the first in a series. There are a few errors, but not enough to distract. If you love a good mystery, this is one for you.

Eve was a police officer but one thing some people didnt accept to easily. Her real father was in prison. Sentenced and found guilty as a serial killer. She and her partner now had a new case with a pattern that was similar to her fathers . Woman were being killed and always had a butterfly pinned on their bodies. Exactly what her dad did to the ones he murdered. But it couldnt have been her dad -he was still in jail.

This was not very good.

The characters were acting like children, the author seemed to randomly put in big words just to sound sophisticated (this is not necessarily a bad thing, but putting them in randomly where they don't fit just takes you out of the story), and the thing the main character was hiding didn't seem to be a big deal.

I really wanted this to be better and unfortunately I won't be continuing on in the series.

I listened to the audio book and the narrator was atrocious. Monotone with little to no inflection and mispronounced words. Seriously?

The story was flat, the characters unlikeable and unprofessional. They are supposed to be in the FBI yet all they do is snip at each other and act childish. Unfortunately I bought more than one of these books in a set. I’m left wondering if I’m going to listen to the other books or just take the loss and move on.

The plot of the FBI agent having a serial killer Father was really interesting and reminded me of prt of Jennifer Lynne Barnes "The Naturals" so I was hooked! Very interesting developments and characters. Obviously it is american but the writing style was just too american police procedural for me, and I do love watching them but found it just seemed like it wished it was on the screen.

Excellent! It was truly believable and very well written. All the characters were well formed and the conclusion was not obvious which is a rare thing . one of the few recently read books that I recommend to my husband.

This book left me with a lot of questions. Who was the Butterfly killer? What was the relationship b

A copycat killer and an angry FBI AGENT seek out each other. Not enough to explain how the villain learned about the agent's past.

A good short read

The mystery held my interest to the end although I don't usually like cliffhangers. Interesting dynamics between Eve and her partner. I would read more from this author.

Since the FBI knows about her jailed serial-killer father, I question why Eve would be tasked with identifying a copycat killer. She taints the investigation.

No wonder her case partner is annoyed with her behaviour.

FBI profiler whose father is in prison for being a serial killer. Eve sees the similarities between herself and her father. Very good reading that kept me going until the end!
