John F. Kennedy was elected America’s 35th president in November 1960, and even long after his tragic assassination in 1963 he remains one of the most celebrated leaders of all time among common citizens and historians alike. In JFK: Day by Day author Terry Golway dissects each and every day of the Kennedy Administration—featuring dated headings, researched accounts, eyewitness testimony, and archival photographs—addressing both political and family affairs to provide the most complete picture of the “Camelot” years available.
The unique timeline format, masterfully researched text, and prolific photography make this one of the most easily accessible and comprehensive books on the topic to date. It is an excellent addition to both the serious historian’s library, as well as the average American’s coffee table.
Terry Golway is a senior editor at POLITICO, supervising coverage of New York State politics. He is a former member of the New York Times editorial board and former city editor and columnist at the New York Observer. He has a Ph.D. in U.S. history and has taught at the New School, New York University, and Kean University.
DNF at page 130. I have been reading this on and off for about 2 years and not getting anywhere fast! I liked it at first but it has gradually got harder and harder going. There is a lot in it which for some will be good but I actually found it a bit much. I flicked through the rest and realised it would probably take me another good few years to finish it, so decided to cut my loses. It wasn’t what I was expecting in that it had much more writing than pictures and I kind of thought it was going to be the other way round and it was much harder going than I expected.
We are seeing more and more books being published about the JFK and his presidency. Today (November 8, 2010) is the 50th Anniversary of JFK's Presidential Election.
Lots of interesting tidbits and facts. There are also some interesting facts / contributions for things that happened right after Kennedy's assassination and in the weeks following.
