Jessica S. Andersen is an American writer of mystery and medical romances. She obtained a PhD in Genetics, but when she finally settles on a single career, she will have been many things: a doctor of molecular genetics, a patent agent, a freelance editor, a professional horse trainer and riding coach, a fiance and the proud owner of a pair of corgis. But if you ask her who she is, Jessica will say, "I'm a writer. The rest is all background research."

Jessica lives in a smal farm in eastern Conneticut with her own personal hero, Brian, as well as the corgis, two cats and a handful of young horses, who she claims are investments but never seem to get sold.

This woman amazes me. A psychopath is trying to kill her at least four times a day and all she can think of is sex?

If the world around you is about to explode, so that you have to hide yourself and your partner in a fireproof cabinet to survive, you think: ‘God, I don’t want to die’ and not ‘Damn, he’s got great abs.’ No wonder she is a bad policewoman, not only couldn’t she catch the killer, but she also needed constant saving.

Luckily Detective Tucker McDermott developed some bizarre obsession over her, so he always kept tabs on her, constantly checking whether she needed saving. It wasn’t love, of course. He was not interested in love. No commitment is better than commitment. Oh, silly, silly man. Doesn’t he know you can run away from a serial killer but you can never ever run away from true love?

Although I'd be wary, because as Sandra Bullock says in Speed 2 to explain the absence of Keanu Reeves: "Relationships based on extreme circumstances never work out."

Awesome Story . . . Truly going into my very favorites list!!!

A tale of two people that met months earlier in a bar. . . Instant attraction until her badge falls off the dash while they were "getting to know one another".

She was a crime scene investigator - He a cop.

She has to prove herself to a group of cops that are mad that their "old school" crime scene investigator retired.

He didn't stay in one place too long, always felt the itch, just as he did when he applied and was leaving for a new job very soon.

Just as soon as they find the missing girls.

They were Brought together by the fate of that night, then Brought together as partners by an unknowing chief that only wanted his team to get along.

Then brought together being targeted by the kidnapper, though nothing seems to add up.

He has only two more days, then he has to leave her, its what he does, right?

And then there will be questions:

Will they find the girls alive?
Who kidnapped the girls and why?
Will he be in time to save the woman he realizes he's come to love, and will she ever get the chance to tell him she'll follow him wherever he goes?
What is going on with Cassie? Why is she so moody and fighting with her new partner?
Will there team start to understand and get along with one another?

Though many of those answers are answered, there will still be a few unknowns for the next (few?) books!

Ms. Anderson did a fabulous job with this story, she keeps the reader engaged, and I really couldn't put it down. Maybe I'll read just a couple chapters of the next book. . . so glad there are many books more in the series!

Note: Some scenes are quite steamy & spicy! But are easy to skim and overlook and not miss any of the main story. Steamy/Spice Rating: 4/10

Ricochet by Jessica Andersen is the first book in the Bear Claw Creek Crime Lab series. This book has been on my physical book shelf for a while now. I figured it was time to brush it off and what better time than for the Coyer love and libraries readathon. This is my first Jessica Andersen book, so I did not know what to expect. But then it’s a romantic suspense, so what could go wrong?

Three teenagers have gone missing.  They’ve been kidnapped, but by whom and why. The members of the Bear Claw Creek police department have their work cut out for them. Tucker McDermott, the lead detective on the case needs to solve the case before moving on to his next job in another jurisdiction. A move he highly anticipated. Tucker is not known to stay in one place for long, so his next assignment did not surprise his colleagues. However, he never counted on his attraction to the new hire to the BCCPD, crime scene investigator Alissa Wyatt.

Alissa and her colleagues, Maya and Cassie, are recent additions to the BCCPD. They were in charge of the new forensics unit. However, not everyone welcomed the new additions, evidenced by the hostile reactions of members of the BCCPD. Now, with a kidnapper on the loose, Alyssa makes it her mission to prove herself to her new colleagues.

Ricochet began on an intriguing note and I soon found myself invested in the mystery surrounding the kidnapping. As I went deeper into the story, the situation became complex. Alissa became a target, and it would seem the nefarious activities were the work of a few people. I enjoyed this aspect of the story a lot.

The sexual tension between the protagonists lit up the pages. I was not a fan of the romance which developed between them. It didn’t strike me as authentic. They spent majority of the story fighting their attraction to each other. Majority of their interactions surrounds the case and throughout the story, Tucker focuses on solving the case so he can leave Bear Claw. It took one night of intimacy for them to recognize they were in love with each other.

The heroine disappointed me. She talked tough, but when it matters most, she had to rely on her partner for protection. Her ego and the enormous chip on her shoulder led to poor decision making placing her in precarious situations. Tucker is silent, tough and strong, compassionate and protective, but not afraid to reveal his vulnerabilities.

The villain responsible for the kidnappings was dealt with appropriately. However, the danger is far from over. I think I have an idea as to the identity of the mastermind, but I would need to continue the series to confirm my suspicions.

Ricochet was an interesting start to the Bear Claw Crime Lab series and I look forward to the next book. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

4 Stars! ~ Three teenage girls are missing; each kidnapped a week apart. Leads are few until a note arrives for Detective Tucker McDermott saying that the first girl is in Bear Claw Canyon. Being partnered with Tucker is the last thing Alissa Wyatt wants but she realizes it’s the Chief’s way to bring his department together as a team. Tucker and Alissa make a good partnership except for that sizzling sexual awareness. And then the madman makes Alissa a target and Tucker finds himself protecting her 24/7. Tucker’s not a roots kind of guy, in fact, he’s about to be transferred out of Bear Claw Creek. He knows that Alissa wants a man who’s going to stick around. Dealing with their attraction proves almost as challenging as catching the kidnapper.

I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Andersen’s Intrigues, and this one is just as riveting as her others. This is perfectly paced with a great balance between the missing girls story and the romance between Tucker and Alissa. I like the way this story was staged at the beginning, and the little touches that hint at the books to follow in the trilogy. Tucker is a well-developed hero; he’s tough and strong, and silent like a wolf but isn’t afraid to show compassion and sometimes his own vulnerability. He’s the kind of hero that fantasies are made of, with the bonus that you’d know you’d always be protected with him around. Alissa is a strong heroine. She’s worked hard to get where she is, and though she could have a chip on her shoulder, she uses her head and lets her talents defend her right to be part of the BCCFD. I enjoyed this one very much, and I’m looking forward to reading Cassie’s story next.

Bombs, missing girls, snow capped mountains, and a romantic mystery what more could you need?

Meet Alissa, she and her gang of science toting lady cops, have waltzed into the BCCPD and is shaking things up and the police department is not thrilled.
Alissa is cool, calm and collected. She studies the scene and with the help of her friends cassie and maya help to make sure no clues are missing.
The pd isnt interested in new ways of doing their job and really giving them a hard time. Meet McDermott the hottie with a bad sense of chivalry. All clues begin to point to her ex and now it's a race against the clock to save missing teenage girls and decide on whether she wants to throw caution to the wind and listen to her heart.

A great new (for me) series. Really enjoyed the first book. Detective, Mystery, Suspense, Romance... all the boxes are ticked in this one.

Bear Claw Creek's crime lab just got an update and none of the officers are liking Alissa Wyatt and her best friends. The Chief of police is trying to get the others to work together, but it is like pulling teeth. They are trying to find three young women who have gone missing.

Alissa just wants to fit in at Bear Claw Creek, but she's about to give up. She's not having a good time at all and to make matters worse she's still trying to put the night at the club with Detective Tucker McDermott behind her, but that isn't going to happen. She is starting to fall for him and when the Chief puts her and him together as partners things start heating up.

Tucker isn't happy about having a partner at all. He can't stand Alissa, but is it because of her personally or the night he and her got busy in her car. She said she was just in town couple days, but that wasn't totally true. She was coming back soon to be one of three to make up the new Forensic team.

They started off on right foot on dance floor that night and end up together by end the book they are both confessing their love. The book is the start of a nine book series called Bear Claw Creek Crime Lab. Alissa changed Tucker and I'm glad she did because he finally realized why he was always moving every three years. If you want a book series to read next then take a stab at this page turner.

Ricochet wasn't as good as the first book (Internal Affairs) I read in this series. The author seemed to still be figuring out her locale. However, I like it - just a hair less than I.A.

I'll definitely continue reading the books in this series. They are offered through my library. Not sure if I'd pay to buy the next one on iTunes though. It would have to be under 5 bucks for me to think its worth it.

Pros: Interesting story line. Good use of crime scene back drop. The three main female characters are all interesting and compliment each other nicely.

Cons: still not a fan of this authors Heroes. The hero in I.A. was also a little too aloof for my taste. And the hero changes direction once he falls for the heroine too fast. I'm not 100% sold on her guys but that might get better with time.

All in all, i would recommend reading. I liked this book and I'm enjoying the series. I'm probably most interested in the fact this is a series. I'm always a big big fan of the continuing story. I'm very interested to see how Bear Creek gets fleshed out more over time and how all the characters we're introduced to find their matches.

Okay read, could have been better. Mild spoilers ahead: Alissa made me want to scream several times. She was all about following protocol, until playing by the rules could get her killed. Then she makes an exception to doing things by the book...and (surprise!) it almost gets her killed. *sigh*. She needed to be saved several times. For being a tough cookie, without a rescue from her studly partner, she would have been toast a few times over. I get angry about damsel in distress plot lines and always give extra points to books with female characters who can handle their own business. This one lost some points for following the old trite "lady needs a strong man to handle things" plot device.

There are two possible bad guys in this book and I pretty much figured the one was a distraction as soon as he was introduced. The mystery wasn't the hardest to figure out.

Overall, it was engaging and a nice, shortish read. It's not going to win any awards, but I liked it well enough to start reading the next book in the series.

I love Jessica Andersen's writing. It is detailed, very descriptive, and there's always a turn that you don't see coming. Tucker is not perfect. What person is? And Alissa is strong, not some come & save me type of female. I can't wait to read this whole series. Even the sub characters are interesting.
