Wolfe's assistant Archie Goodwin recorded the cases of the detective genius from 1934 (Fer-de-Lance) to 1975 (A Family Affair).

I always enjoy a Nero Wolfe mystery, even though they are fairly predictable. This is a good winter read, when you want to just enjoy a book and not think too deeply about it. I'd read Fer-de-Lance previously, in fact I own a copy, but the other stories in this collection were new to me: Murder by the Book, The Next Witness, When a Man Murders, and Die Like a Dog. I liked all of them, especially Die Like a Dog, where an actual dog gets taken on my Nero and Archie. A new plot twist for the duo. Will they keep it? Read the book to find out.

I enjoyed all the stories in this book. I wish they wouldn't swear at all but I am glad they don't swear worse. I was going to tell you which story I liked best but when I was thinking about it, I decided I liked parts of all of them.

I read the first story in this book and while it was well done, it just wasn't really my cup of tea.
