Stories of lost love or stories of self-doubt. Stories of grief or stories of found happiness.
Megan Hubrex has all of the above to tell.
Vantage Point: A Person Essay Book explores the mountains of life, from the highest peak to the lowest base. Everyone has a different point of view and Megan is here to share hers.
Noun: vantage point 1. a place or position affording a good view of something
Used in a sentence: “From my vantage point, Megan Hubrex’s newest collection of essays titled Vantage Point looks SO amazing being listed at #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list (Emily Henry coming in at #2).”
The opening line above is me manifesting what I know is certain to be in the future of my dearest friend Megan. Vantage Point is an anomaly of a book, an absolute GEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Consisting of emotional essays about the trials and tribulations of her life, Megan has so effortlessly yet expertly taken the difficulties of her past and the wonderfully mundane of her present and written about them with so much heart and SO MUCH HUMOR! These unique stories will LITERALLY leave your cheeks sore from smiling so hard, your heart will ache from the hardships, your eyes will well up with tears, and you will be left reeling from the extraordinarily tumultuous ride that is Vantage Point.
These stories are profound. These stories are raw. These stories are human. These stories are pieces of a beautiful soul that will leave an imprint on your own soul.
Thank you Megan Hubrex for dazzling the world with your vantage point – a view so unbelievably good “I want to dip you in honey so I could be sticking to you” <3
This was my first personal essay book and I really enjoyed it! Raw, real, powerful. I am so thankful Megan cracked herself open and shared her soul with us via short, easy to read, snippets. I really appreciated the format of this book and it had me eagerly turning page after page late into the night.
If you’re part of the bookstagram community, you know that friends you meet there are just… special. After my first Zoom with Megan’s book club, all I could I think was “I want to meet Megan in real life and HUG HER, I LOVE her!”
Megan Hubrex is my bookstagram friend, one of the most special people on earth, and now one of my favorite authors.
I LOVE writing that makes me smile one sentence and feel like I’ve been punched in the gut the next. This book of essays is just that, and more—genuine, funny, vulnerable, and gutsy.
I don’t know many people who would have the courage to put pen to paper with such transparency, but Megan did. And reading this book of essays touched my heart in a way not many books have.
Not all of you know Megan (yet), but all of you can be lucky enough to read Vantage Point. So please, do yourself a favor, and read this book of essays.
Love you, Megan. And thank you, bookstagram, for giving me some of my favorite people.
While reading this book, I laughed and cried and held my breath and shook my head in disbelief. I felt like I was being trusted with the most precious and honest and raw stories of Megan’s life. But it wasn’t saccharine or devastating. It was just real. And that authenticity; that realness; is powerful. Definitely recommend you read this book.
Raw, honest, and profoundly real. Megan lays bare her soul for all to see, taking the reader along on a roller coaster of emotions. There are hopeful essays, sad essays, ones that will make you laugh, and others that will make you cry. Megan might not be “strong” (IYKYK) but she is certainly brave! If you’re craving a deeply moving read, I recommend this collection, which is a one-sitting binge worthy experience!
This is one of the best, most insightful nonfiction books I have read. It’s the first personal essay book I have read, and I really enjoyed the format!
What an absolute delight that I get to call Megan a friend. She’s the extrovert to my introvert. She’s the fun to my safe. I met her when she posted on Instagram last year seeking new guests for her podcast, and I reached out (July 2022) and said I’m available if you ever need a fill in. We ended up recording together and instantly I felt a kindred spirit in her. Our energy matched each other’s and I was so, so happy I took that chance and reached out to essentially a stranger on the internet.
Fast forward to this year and Megan self-publishes her 3rd book and I HAVE TO HAVE a copy! Megan completely opened up in the most real authentic way. She shared moments of her life that made her the person she is, but that no one should have to go through. She’s incredible and I consider myself lucky to be in her orbit.
Vantage point is a collection of personal essays that is incredibly vulnerable. The amount of vulnerability it takes to write and publish this book is astounding. And I am completely in awe of Megan.
I started and finished this book in one day because I couldn’t wait to see what piece of her story Megan was going to share next. This book is vulnerable, authentic, heartbreaking, relatable and you can see Megan’s resilience shine through.
The best part about this book is the opportunity to connect with different essays. Obviously there were some essays I connected with more than others but at another time in my life I would have connected with different essays more deeply. It’s a book that perfectly encapsulates how messy, complicated, beautiful, heartbreaking and hopeful our lives and emotions can be at times.
I am so thankful to have met Megan through bookstagram a few years ago! She is truly a light in this dark world! Seriously, every story she makes on booksta brightens my day! I loved that Vantage Point showed the highs and lows of Megan’s personal life. Thank you for being open and honest with readers. My favorite essays were Concrete Heart and Loving Greg. I think anyone who reads this book can find something to relate to. If you are looking to pick up a nonfiction book, I hope you choose this one! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am lucky enough to be friends with Megan. She is the kindest and most supportive friend I could ask for. Do yourself a favor and read Megan’s essays. They will make you cry, laugh, hopeful, and just about every other feeling in between.
Megan, I love you and thank you for sharing your story.
I am not an essay reader. I generally stick to fiction. I like to say I have enough real life as it is so I want fiction to distract me, but I wanted to read this essay book because I really enjoy Megan.
I decided to only read a couple of essays per day, that way I could think about each one before moving on to the rest. I don't know if this is the best way to read an essay book or not but it worked for me.
Megan and I have never met IRL, we met through a virtual book club and her personality and humor got me. I feel like I know her better now, maybe even understand her more, what's behind the smiles and laughter and fun and some of what it takes to get to the smiles and laughter and fun.
The essay that I flagged and has stuck with me is "Take it Back". I don't know that I've ever given it a lot of thought before when someone told me I was "strong" or when I've told someone they were "strong". But I think from now on I may look for different adjectives. Each and every one of is dealing with things and for the most part we put on whatever face we have to, to be able to get through each day. The point is we do it, we get through it, we deal with it, because we choose IT over the alternative.
This book will make you laugh, it might make you sad but it will definitely make you think.
