With the help of his fiancée, Anna, Yoh is in training for the ultimate shaman sports event: the "Shaman Fight in Tokyo," the once-every-500-years tournament to see who can shape humanity's future and become the Shaman King. I have to admit, despite the context not being as epic as they could be, it was fun to watch Horohoro and Ryu stand up for what they believed in and deliver some really impressive moments. The story inches its way closer to the Patch Village where things should get much more serious for Yoh too.

Our gang continues its journey to the patch village and it's time for Ryu to shine it's wonderful and we are learning more about our overall baddie villain Hao. The art continues to be wonderful and the story is still developing and let's go and let's Keep on Reading.

I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

I was going to give this volume two stars, but at the final 1/3 of it it became much more fun.
At first it was REALLY boring... Nothing interesting at all.
But during the end...OMG... I laughed so much with the Vampire dude!
I am a HUGE fan of anything vampire related and that guy was so ridiculous he made me LOL big time!
So, if you are about to read this, keep in mind that it's a bit slow paced, but worth reading.

I love how this series takes the time to focus on character development, and inform us of who these key characters are. This time around, we got a bit more for Horohoro as he communes with nature, involving a grizzly bear named Apollo. Before that, we got a history lesson about Hao, and the last of the volume involved a vampire shaman. The last part is the strongest, as the story gives us a good fight alongside a terrific showcase for Ryu, as we see how much of a talented fighter he has become.

Another day at work, another volume of Shaman King, and I'm really burning out on these reviews.

We get a huge info dump about Hao, delivered by Yoh's grandfather. Could have easily been in Vol. 10, but I guess they wanted to end with the name "Asakura Hao" as a cliff-hanger. Some demons/demi-gods come out of Hao's old spell-book, but they job to Anna, proving some unseen strength, and giving her allowance to go to America to find Yoh, thus allowing Tamao and Manta to get back into the story as well.

There's a three-chapter side story about Horohoro getting lost in the mountains because he pissed Kororo off by talking about how cute Morphin is. Kind of a wack reason to separate Horohoro from the others so he might get some development on his own. We kinda get a little more detail about his personality, but not much more than anyone can get from basic knowledge of the Ainu people. Basically, they like bears, and nature in general. Not stuff we didn't already know. Horohoro -does- display new abilities in his "fight" against poachers, but it seems silly that we didn't just get that stuff in an -actual- battle. Regardless, it allows the reader to build hype for the next time Horohoro fights...

...but too bad he instantly jobs to Boris Tepes Dracula, of Hao's henchmen.

On the bright side, Boris is a huge ham, and it's fun to see him blast through different melodramatic faces/poses while lamenting like an overly-Romantic vampire, only to later get revealed as a sham who is using Oversoul to appear more vampiric with fangs and the living cape and stuff. His ghost looks like Kars from JoJo, but we don't really see it do anything in this volume, so whatever.

Ryu gets cooler. He and Tokageroh get new moves. It's kind of a shame that the Ryu vs. Boris chapters in this volume feel more like a prelude to what I would imagine would be a more fleshed-out battle in the next volume.

Yoh Asakura not only sees dead people, he talks and fights with them, too. That’s because Yoh is a shaman, a traditional holy man able to interact with the spirit world. Yoh is now a competitor in the Shaman Fight,” a tournament held every 500 years to decide who will become the Shaman King and shape humanity’s future. Having passed the fierce preliminaries, Yoh prepares for the main competition. After a brief detour to the wilds of China, Yoh and his friends arrive ready to fight, but end up on an airplane that suddenly disappears thousands of feet over North America! Now they must discover the location of the Patch village and make their way there. Now, Yoh-kun and his friends have joined forces with Lyserg, a boy who’s sworn to take revenge on Hao. But as the party makes their way To the Patch village, something’s going on back at Yoh-kun’s house...

Ever since Amazon linked up with comiXology, so that readers could get comics, graphic novels and manga on their kindles, I have been meaning to check out what they had. Under Amazon Prime Reading you get a number of titles for free and this comiXology original is one such series.

The epic saga continues with the gang searching for the Patch Tribe village whilst travelling across America. They have a new ally in the British Shaman Lyserg, who wishes to become a great Detective, like her father who was mercilessly killed by the evil Hao. The gang have also found out more about Hao's plans to rule over the world and know that he must be stopped. Can they find the Patch Tribe so they can continue in the Shaman Fights and find a way to defeat Hao?

Easy to read and engaging, I enjoyed this and it felt just like reading a paperback manga, even on Kindle, as you have to click through the book backwards. A nice little touch. Another solid 4* and onto the next volume!

Horohoro needed that bit of character development, although on my second read-through I interpreted it more as mansplaining. Ryu needed it, too.

I suppose I should acknowledge that part of why I'm reading the manga now is because of that new Netflix show that came out a little while ago. The second anime of this series. It starts off with a flashback that the manga doesn't have, and I definitely found it to be a spoiler. This volume hints at the backstory that episode opened with, but even then, Hao's story remains extremely uncertain. I'm very confused how he can be both a Patch and an Asakura.

I think Hiroyuki Takei was attempting to make an incredibly creepy character with the vampire dude, but he already created Faustus (the creepiest character ever), so it sort of slides into melodrama instead.

Horohoro versus Apollo (Big and I mean REALLY BIG Bear). What I like about this volume is that there is a lot in terms of progressing the story along. To me this part of the story is both interesting and a little saddening, but it was a story which made me enjoy Horohoro more as a character. At first, I was wondering about the cover and if Ryu was a mistake to be on the cover, but the second half truly delivers. This volume reads at a good pace and has some great gems in it which are worthy of praise. Solid volume that entertains and keeps you ready for the next volume.

The boys may be lost as they continue searching for the Patch village, but their journey will allow for important growth in each member of the group. Takei will entertain readers the whole way through with this vivid entry to the "Shaman King" series. Horohoro will have to overcome the past if he and the others hope to make it in time for the fight!

Okay we got some backstory on our main villain, a new character added to the crew and the lesser two of the crew (who I prefer) got to shine and have some badass chapters. I really differ this volume a lot. Hopefully the story telling gets better now cause the story was average until now with some major let downs and ball drops.

Finally. This and next volume have major info dumps about Hao, the Asakura's and the overall plot.
Also, it's really nice to see Horohoro shine a bit.
But Ryu stole the show at the end of this volume.
Pompadour is back, nice backstory of how he became a shaman and his partner.
Great read.

A, no i całkiem ciekawy ten przeciwnik ;)

In this volume Horohoro goes off on his own adventure and encounters a lovely park ranger and a most dangerous grizzly bear.

The team has grown by one after last volume--the English shaman, Lyserg--but the boys are still essentially lost looking for the Patch village in the manga world's equivalent of Colorado's Durango and Mesa Verde.

Not a bad use of the Mesa Verde ruins in tying them to the patch. Of course it wouldn't work at all if real world facts were emphasized but by grabbing the loose outline of Mesa Verde history and allowing the reader to provide willing suspension of disbelief it's kind a fun. Honestly, I wish they'd just get through this "where is the Patch village" arc and move on. The back story developing, Hao, his connection to Yoh etc. is interesting, but it feels like the primary plot line is being delayed/needlessly extended. Still, fun enough seeing the team work together I suppose.

Not my favorite cover- Ryu looks like a Real Housewife of Shaman King. Bizarre!

The rest of the story was good. The first half of the volume felt with Horohoro and we dealt with a tragic death of a grizzly bear. Sad!!

The rest of the volume was our clan in an altercation with some of Hao's henchmen.
