If you're one of the millions of Christians weighed down by the guilt of things done, and undone, feeling you are falling short of God's expectations, The Birthright is a liberating, life-changing celebration of your birthright as a child of the King. Whether you are of Reformed, grace-based roots, or Arminian, works-driven traditions, you may have a gnawing sense that you are failing to please the Father. The Birthright will liberate you from the drudgery of 'doing' and help you discover the joy of 'being'--moving out of the servant's quarters and into the Father's house where you are loved, accepted and celebrated . . . simply because you are His child.
John Sheasby is an evangelist and teacher from South Africa who now resides in Bixby, Oklahoma, where he leads Liberated Living Ministries. He is an in-demand speaker internationally and a frequent guest at Michael W. Smith events throughout the year.
I highly recommend this book. The author talks about the birthright of the person who has accepted Christ as Savior. What freedom and peace come from knowing that we are His children and our Father loves us. We are truly sons and daughters not servants. We don't need to be like the older son in the parable of the prodigal son. We can rejoice in our intimate relationship with the Father and rest in His love.
I never knew how much I could love and adore Jesus until I read this book. I was raised in a legalistic “cult”, always feeling like God was out to punish me for every little deed done wrong. This book has changed my whole view....actually it has changed my whole life! Pastor Sheasby has given me a whole new outlook on the love My Lord has for me and it is so liberating. Just knowing this makes me love Him more than ever. Please read this book! It has proven to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m on now to his next book, but I will be reading this one again!
I saw this book advertised on my facebook page and decided to download the sample from Amazon.com. After reading that, I was so impressed that I went and bought the kindle edition and devoured it in one and a half days!
There wasn't anything in this book which I had not heard before, but John Sheasby presented this concept in a way that it suddenly clicked and made sense.
The author teaches from his own experiences and from the Bible about how so much of what we do as Christians comes out of a "Servant Mindset" so that we become so focussed on doing, on striving, and struggling to earn God's love and favour when the reality is that we don't need to earn anything. In fact, we can't earn it because it's already ours as beloved children and heirs.
"You are always with me, and everything I have is yours!" These are the words of the father to his eldest son in the parable of the Prodigal son. I had never thought too much about the eldest son in that parable, or about the father's words to him when he complained that he had never been given even a small goat to hold a feast for his friends.
Sheasby expounds on this in a way that made an impact on my thinking and caused me to reevaluate my own mindset.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is tired of the whole doing, striving, working to earn mentality that besets so many of us today.

A new instant classic. This is in the vein of the writings of Paul White, Lynn Hiles, and Joseph Prince. Sheasby's theme here is sonship and how we in the church have misunderstood what our true inheritance in Christ actually is. He uses the story of the prodigal son in a surprising new way, focusing on the little understood and much maligned other brother, the "good" one who never left, and how we have much more in common with him than we might think. Honestly, this stuff is so common sense I don't see how we've missed it so easily. I think we feel much more comforted believing that God is an abusive, wrath-filled sort who is just begging for the chance to smite us. Why, I don't know. I can only speculate that it's because Christians largely have bought into the same cynicism and fatalism that post-modern culture believes. If anything can go wrong, it will. Well, not in my Father's house it won't. Our God intends good. He is an abundantly giving God. Let Sheasby show you how. This is a quick and easy read, but it's certainly deep and will change many unhealthy paradigms you might have, if you'll let it. SO glad the Lord has brought me into awareness of the finished work movement. I couldn't imagine ever going back now.
The ideal book for anyone who is seeking peace beyond the traditional, rigid rules and rewards teachings of modern Christianity. Sheasby's insights unlock the doors of the temporal trap of the dutiful yet always angry servant, caught in the emotional cul-de-sac of task, expected reward and inevitable resentment, and directs the inner spirit back to the divine inheritance gifted to all of us when we learn to lift our hearts and finally leave fear and anger behind. Indeed mercy shall always triumph over justice because it is in mercy and love whereby God resides in each of us.
This book helps you realize that you may be in bondage in the servant's quarters. Now, it the time to pack all your belongings and move to your Father's house, and experience eternal bonding, it is your distinct BIRTHRIGHT. You are a son, not a slave...learn the difference and covenants promised herein. Your life may be transformed in one reading. Best of blessings, Highly Recommend!
A must-read for every Christian. John Sheasby and Ken Gire will disarm you and make you want to never settle for any life with God less than that of being a true son or daughter of His love. This book will set you free from the filter of religious laws through which most know God. Please read this!
This book was recommended to me to overcome performance based guilt and condemnation. It was very impactful in bringing to light who we really are in Christ and the expectations to live freely in Him.
