Kay Lee Arthur was an American Christian author, Bible teacher, and co-founder of Precept Ministries International. Renowned for her accessible and inductive approach to Bible study, she helped millions engage deeply with Scripture. Arthur began her ministry informally, teaching teenagers in her living room alongside her second husband, Jack Arthur. Their work soon grew into a global outreach, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, under the name Precept Ministries International. She hosted the daily Bible teaching program Precepts for Life and became a respected voice in evangelical circles. Arthur authored numerous books and was a four-time winner of the ECPA Christian Book Award for titles such as A Marriage Without Regrets and The New Inductive Study Bible. Her ministry was rooted in a personal reawakening to faith in the early 1960s, following a divorce and a return to religious life. She and Jack also served briefly as missionaries in Mexico before founding their ministry. Arthur remained active in public faith-based initiatives into her later years and was known for her firm stances on social issues. She passed away on 2025 leaving behind a lasting legacy in Christian education and publishing.
I moved this to read even though I have it on my desk and refer to if often. This will be a book I continue to read and re-read. There are a lot of tools in this book and I would not be capable of implementing them all at once. It is easy to read and understand. As a benefit to us, she put all her study formats in 1 easy to read book. Thank you Kay!
This an excellent book to learn how to study your Bible inductively. This is my third time reading it and I am currently using it as a guide for my Sunday School class. The only thing better than this book, is actually sitting in a class with Kay Arthur or a trained instructor.
The essential message is that to truly discover and understand the Word of God you need to be led by the Holy Spirit and approach the text objectively. Kay walks through a method, and she admits that it is just a method if you are not being led by the Holy Spirit, that will help you systematically discover truth. You begin by building the framework and context of each book. Then you move in and focus on the details. Both of these steps are involve only observation and she encouraged you to avoid interpretation or application until you have completed these steps. She then helps you make correct interpretation by focusing on the meaning of the original words of the text. Finally she moves to application to your life.
If you desire to understand scripture intimately, to discover and claim truth for yourself, to move past the passive training of simply listening in a sermon or class then this book will get you started.
Very resourceful book with some hidden nuggets here and there, even for a lifelong believer. Would be a great resource for someone who just found Christ and is just getting to know more about the Bible, or a new Christian who wants to take their Bible study to another level.
I give it 3 stars because I didn't personally like the style of writing, but it doesn't take away at all from the content.
I feel like much of this book went over my head. There was so much valuable information that I think I need to study this book again is smaller sections. Felt a bit overwhelming.
I rated this book a three because I found a lot of the main part of this book felt like a sales pitch. There where several footnotes all which pointed you to purchase another book by the same authors. Also while it might be enjoyed by others I found the author seemed to encourage the reader in a grade school teachers way.
The content of the book as far as teaching the method of study however was great. It really takes someone who may just read the bible and can build a foundation to grow from
I have found using the inductive study style a useful tool in my personal Bible study. This book is an easy read on how to go about this and, for those who are familiar with it, how to take it to the next level.
The book begins with an overview of inductive study and then shows you how to delve deeper with the same principles. The format is ideal for easy referencing if need to refresh yourself on a certain topic.
