This easy-to-read children’s book allows readers to look into the life of North American river and sea otters. The book dives into where otters live, what they eat, how they protect themselves, their pups, and so much more. Readers are able to walk away feeling knowledgeable about the life and routines of otters. The book brings up details and information that allow for students to learn more about this curious creature that students are likely to really get into. The pictures and details provided give depth to the subject and do so in a way that is likely to increase student interest levels.
Classroom Connections: Children of all ages are very likely to be interested in this subject matter. Whether this book is used as an individual study of North American Otters or used as a read aloud for younger readers, students are able to clearly soak in the information provided. The text is easy to read and uses language that is easily translated to all readers. If used in the classroom setting I would read this book and a book about beavers to my students. I feel as though the two animals could be easily confused and the clarification could lead to a great discussion on similarities and differences between the two. I think this would also be a great book to introduce different vocabulary words, as tier two words are included in the back of the book.

My five-year-old son wanted to read a book about otters, so we picked this one out from the library today.
This was a good, solid book about otters. The information was easy for young readers and listeners to understand, and the illustrations were very well done.
