Meet the March sisters: the talented and tomboyish Jo, the beautiful Meg, the frail Beth, and the spoiled Amy, as they pass through the years between girlhood and womanhood. A lively portrait of growing up in the 19th century with lasting vitality and enduring charm.
This is one of my favorite books of all the time. I was already in the first book very attached to all the characters, but in this book I was feeling like I was inside the story, living with them. I love Jo so much, I can’t even describe it, and I recognize myself a lot in her. Beth’s death was expected but very suffered, and this passage even made me tear up a bit (which is a thing that I don’t do very often reading a book). I have to be honest with Meg’s character tho: in the first book I was very annoyed by her, by her perfectionism and her “I have to be the perfect role model for my little sisters”; but in this book I found her very grown up and I’ve seen the woman that she is, and I’ve changed my mind of course. I love her so much with John (he’s so precious and caring!) and THE BABIES AAAAA I love them so much I swear. Amy instead… I don’t like her at all, and that feeling of dislike was very much present while reading the first book: I don’t like her attitude, her selfishnesses, her desperate way to be superior to all her sisters (who surely don’t care). And then there’s Laurie, my little, precious, most loved one Laurie; he’s surely my favorite and I have a huge crush on him, always had. I was so sad when he confessed to Jo but Jo turned him down; but it was how things had to go. Laurie and Jo are platonic soulmates and Jo was right, they would’ve hated their marriage life, they would’ve hated each other. But I don’t also like Laurie and Amy. I’ve talked with a lot of people about this “marriage-Laurie” situation and most of them responded that in their opinion Laurie and Amy were meant to be together and Laurie fell in love with her. I obviously don’t agree because how could Laurie fall in love with Amy in such a brief time? Laurie was in a deep, suffering love with Jo since the very beginning, since the first time they spoke to each other when they were KIDS. He changed his mind very fast don’t you think? In my opinion he was still in love with Jo but he “used” Amy to recover from the huge heartbreak. However, everyone can see how involved I still am with this book, I love it too much!
