The more I get into this series the more I like it. Originally I found too many similarities with Harry Potter, but as the series moves along I enjoy the characters more and more and the interesting twists in the plot (though some are a little strange). Erec's quests are always entertaining and this book has a couple of surprises that I didn't see coming as Erec completes his fifth and sixth quests. A lot of fun and perfect for older readers.

I've always complained about the wanton magic going on in this book. The Novikov time bender, the scepters, the nitrowisherine, the visionary Dragon Eyes, the Seeing Eyeglasses, even the Serving Tray — it's all so careless and extravagant. Makes you wonder why Erec doesn't always carry a vial of Nitrowisherine in his pocket, or why the wearer of the Seeing Eyeglasses always seems to find the "missed person" at a convenient time and place.

Why doesn't Erec wear the Glasses to try to see Queen Hesti, whom he sorely misses? Doubtless, it will later turn out that she's in an enchanted sleep or in an unsupportive place like Nevervarld, or something convenient like that... just as how convenient it was that the Instagills don't work in the Nightmare Realm or how the Nitrowisherine doesn't work in transporting Bethany out of the dungeon (but works anyway in transporting them out of prison). Everything seems to work out conveniently because of options we already know about.

Totally despised the mythological spinoffs on Aegeus, Hector, Arachne, and many others — they're silly in an almost childish way. But turns out Ms. Kingsley is truly talented in creating names, such as the mynaraptor Lalalalal and his friend Huhuhuhuhuhu. (And it seems that the mynaraptor population is not suffering, either, so let's hope they have enough syllables for these names).

The pattern in the Erec Rex series is that it always starts off boring, with all the worthy action packed in the end. It's the type of story I can read in a noisy environment since there's absolutely no need to fire up some neurons.

Erec is a terrible person who's all-important and trying-hard-to-be-noble. Imagine roving around, deliberately recruiting Jack, Kyron, Griffin, Jam, and Melody and telling them at the very last moment that it's dangerous and they should probably turn back. Like, are you kidding, bruh? He takes Bethany on a date in Otherness when he's supposed to be immediately freeing Wandabelle, because mind you, one day in the Nightmare Realm feels like months in Earth-time, as he'd experienced firsthand. He disowns King Piter for not revealing that there's a younger Cleary sibling so that Baskania would leave Bethany alone, telling Bethany, "He’s my real father—and I don’t even want him. I’m officially giving him up. So neither of us have parents now. We’re even." Yeah, right, and remember how sloppily schmaltzy he was because he was pining for his parents? Makes you support Oscar when he wrote,
Dear Erec,
I wasn’t going to write to you at all, but I decided to send this one last letter... because I wanted the chance to tell you how much I hate your guts.
Some characters are only given a rat's fart when they're needed, such as Trevor in this one. It's surely preparing us for the shocker that he's Bethany's younger brother, after all 👀 (just my guess).

“Erec Rex and The Three Furies” is a great book and one of the most exciting written by Kaza Kingsley. This book of course starts back at Erec’s apartment ,just like the start of all the other books, and he gets a letter from his friend that she is going to Baskina Erec’s worst enemy. Then two people try to kidnap Danny and Sammy, Erec’s twin older siblings. In the end they get to the King's house and Erec goes on a quest to the nightmare realm and he has to save a lot of people from there, including the missing clown fairy and it seems just about impossible to get out but the hermit, Erec’s teacher, has taught him a few things. Erec Rex then also has to go and thinks he needs to sacrifice himself for a quest. But before that quest the three fates give him advice to free Bethany from Baskinga before he kills her.
This book for sure fills in a whole lot of plot holes that have been there the whole series. One of the potholes filled was why these people keep following Danny and Sammy and it finally explained what happened in the most bizarre way ever. But what I didn’t like about this book was how the main character was super stupid and when he got instructions that sounded stupid he wouldn’t do them, even though he got a lot of them and they turned out to be really good in the end. Also one other thing that I liked was that Erec Rex was learning to do magic and then he could do some cool things with the magic and I hope they keep it up in the next book. What I still don’t like too much about the author is he doesn’t give a whole lot of description. Sometimes I am reading and all of a sudden it jumps to something else with out and reason why. But on another note, Kaza Kingsley was really good with giving suspension and making you keep wanting to read the book. This book was a pretty good book that kept me reading and it was really interesting.
I think that the life lesson of this book was to follow instructions when needed. Because in the book these three fates who can predict the future tell Erec what to do. But what they tell him to do sounds horrible like he will die, but in the end it works out and saves a lot of people.

Title:Erec rex #4 - the three furies
Author Kaza Kingsley
Pages 576
The book takes place much in alypium, a magic city with a golden dome that keeps the weathere perfect. It also takes place in part in underground aorth and "otherness", where the monsters live.
Erec rex is the main character. He is destined to be king of alypium, but he must finish twelve quests first. in this book, he finishes his fifth and sixth quests. He also must rescue his friend bethany, who supposedly holds the secret to immense power. The main issue in the story is that Baskania is trying to get immense power, but he will destroy the world with it.(By accident, supposedly) Erec is trying to stop him while still doing his quests. Baskania also is trying to free the three furies, powerful beings, who are locked in tartarus.
The book is told in the third person. I liked that, because I couldn't imagine Erec telling the story about himself. It would take away all the suspense, because you would know he made it. That's another thing I liked about the book, that it was very intense. You never could know if Erec would make it.
Something I didn't like about the book was the dialouge didn't sound very real. They would often say "did not" instead of didn't, and no one talks like that anymore.
I believe that one theme of the book is that Loyalty to your friends is important. Erec shows this often, as he goes out of his way to help his friends, especially when he rescues bethany.
The intended audience is probably teen-age fantasy lovers. The book is clearly fantasy, with magic, dragons, and many references to greek and roman mythology. The greek references make the book very unique. It uses many greek elements without making it a second Percy Jackson.
I thought that this book was amazing. I could barely put it down, even to eat dinner or go to sleep. I definately reccomend it to anyone who loves fantasy

Kingsley really hit her stride in this book, which I think is the best in the series thus far. A lot of the seemingly unconnected stuff going on gets brought back and resolved, with cool twists that make a lot of sense of prior events, and some really exciting moments.

This book also had some genuine emotion and high stakes… the Oscar/Rosco conflict, and Erec’s journey to the Furies, both were really emotionally powerful, elevating the story from just cool fantasy adventures to something that’ll hit you right in your feelings.

Admittedly, the beginning of this book was somewhat of a slog, especially with Erec’s frequent turns to hysteria – “omg, we need to go on a quest Right Now! Aaaahh!” But once the action got going, right around the point Erec faced off against the Nightmare King, the book really picked up and maintained its strength throughout.

Kingsley has always been really good at writing the fantasy adventure aspect of these books, and Three Furies has some excellent action setpieces, including a really cool prison break. But this book is even better because there’s a genuine threat looming – the Furies are genuinely apocalyptic antagonists, as opposed to Baskania, who’s getting a wee bit stale in his enmity with Erec. Kingsley is also having quite a bit of fun with the prophecying aspect of these books, where Erec keeps looking into the future and keeps being misled – it’s one of the most fun elements she’s borrowed from Greek mythology!

Yep...it took me half a year to finish this book. The story was really dragging and there were so many frustrating parts. This book would have been a good one if Erec did not show his growing pains and tantrums. That was so Harry Potter and Tom Ward during the later part of their series. It was just so...frustrating and boring to read that I kept putting it off. But eventually, I picked it up again and started reading. It’s saving grace was the last 7 chapters (10 if you include the three epilogues). Those chapters finally had the Kaza Kingsley magic where I was hooked and I couldn’t put the book down. I don’t know if I’ll have the same experience with the last book. Hopefully not...

Appropriate for: age 12+

I liked this sequel, but I don't know if I'm going to continue reading the series. The writing still feels rushed. I appreciate that 2 quests are finished every book, so it's not drawn out into a 12 book series O.o And I love the good messages in every book. But they feel dumbed down and lacking depth

A lot of stuff got resolved and so many things good happen, so that's good. However there are two more books, so obviously everything's not good, so that is bad. Anyway, I would suggest this book to people that have extra time and think they want to have to read six books.

This is such a fun nod to Greek mythology while growing a wonderful depth of character in Erec. I love how he’s still not perfect, but overcoming his imperfections with these quests as he ages. This series is a delight as these characters feel real but are inspiring in their aims and choices.

Kingley's plot relies heavily upon Rowling's: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows."
Part of the story's action also barrows from the ancient Greek myth of Hercules and one
of his twelve labors.

Although this is 4th in the series, I think that so far it is the best. Erec Rex working through quests to become king, with fantastic creatures to help him is a fun read!

book 1- Alecto the Angry
This book begins the next chapter of this series. Erek was in Alypium to complete the 12 quests he need to become the prince of Alypium, he needed to be the evil person that was also competing to be prince. Erek came home to New Jersey or Upper earth as they call it. Bethany has been writing him letter's since he came home and he has not returned any of them. He soon figures out that it was not in fact Bethany writing the letters but the dark prince that had captured her to torture her for information about Erek. Once he realized that he went back to Alympium to save her. In Alympium everyone has a magical gift, this book makes me think about what magical gift I would like to have. I would recommend this book to my friends it is very interesting and keeps your attention through out the whole story. One lesson I learned from this is never ignore a friend you never know when they really need you.

book 2- Tisiphone the Vengful
This book was also very good, had a very good story line that was easy to follow and kept your interest throughout the whole book. The one thing in this book that I keep thinking about he the fact that they use a remote control (like the ones you use to turn on your TV) as weapons. In this book Erek has to do a quest to save Bethany from the dark prince. Bethany is chained to a desk and having her memory pulled out of her brain, they were looking for one memory in particular. Eric and his friends finish the quest and help others on the way and save Bethany. This book makes you think about loyalty to friends and to always be there for the ones you care about no matter what. I would recommend this book to people as well. The story line was very interesting and kept my attention the whole time it was exciting to think about what was going to happen next or what new magical creature they were going to run into. Makes you think what if these magical realms were real.

book 3-Meggera the Jealous
I really enjoyed this book as well the author flows each book from one to the next so easily that you can keep up with the story line and do not feel like you missed something. These books have suspense, action and compassion in them. This book makes you think about what being a good person means. I think kids my age like these books because it has action and suspense in it also it is about magic and makes you imagine what it would be like to have magical powers. I think the story has a very interesting theme it grabs your attention and holds it. In this book Bethany has been freed and they are trying to get back to normal life. Erek went back to upper earth and while there his father tells him that he knew all a long that the dark prince did not want Bethany because he knew she did not hold the memory the dark prince was looking for, and his father did nothing to free her. I learned forgiveness in this book as well as trust in your family.

Erec Rex should be enjoying a relatively trouble-free vacation back with his family. After being involved in several death-defying quests on the path to becoming king, he could use some downtime. But he has nothing to do, and he misses his friends. Especially Bethany. Even if he hasn't figured out if their relationship is still just friends or if it might now be heading for more.

Then Bethany is taken by Baskania. Now Erec is scrambling to complete his next quest, rescue Bethany, and avoid getting both of them killed by Baskania. His journey takes him from deep into the Nightmare King's realm to Baskania's most heavily-guarded fortress, and he's got a deadline: Baskania is trying to deal with the three Furies, but if he releases them at all the whole world will be destroyed, one way or another.

I loved so many things about this book. I liked how Erec is able to see the future, but is coming to understand that what he sees doesn't always mean what he assumes it will. I liked that Erec's dragon-shapeshifting is continuing to progress, to the point where he now gets wings as well as his scales, claws, tail, and fiery breath. And that he finally starts to wonder if his brother and sister might really be his brother and sister, the missing two triplets (and how that is resolved is very interesting indeed).

Going deeper, I loved how Erec has to fight against everything in him that naturally wants to do the sane/safe thing rather than the necessary thing. His parents and friends naturally want to protect him, and he couldn't succeed without their help, but he has to balance his responsibilities with his wants. I thought the first quest, which portrays this at length, did it well, but the second was spectacular. Erec trusts the Fates enough to do the quests they're assigning him, and he's smart enough to think through why they're asking him to deal with these things and what will happen if he does nothing.

I also want to give a shout out for June, Erec's adoptive mom. She's never the focus of attention, but her role in various conspiracies is gradually coming clearer, and I can't help but admire her. She's taken on more danger than Erec suspects, and given what we learned this book I do wonder what the rest of her secrets might be.

This is a bit of a doorstopper, but once I started reading, I never noticed the length (except to get to bed far too late because I was too invested in finishing). It will greatly help to read the rest of the series before this book, as returning characters that show up later in the book only get a minimal introduction. I rate this book Highly Recommended.

Erec is faced with a major challenged. In the last installment, he had to rescue his mother and now it is his very good friend Bethany who needs his help. What has really helped this series is that Erec's challenges are all linked with major challenges handed out by Baskania. Erec finds himself the target of blind bigoted hatred and hateful rhetoric as he learns more and more about himself. His new-found knowledge (in the last book) gives way to a secret held by two of his siblings. The two challenges in this story lead Erec into even more danger and for a while, it really appears all is over for our young hero.
Kaza's story is much like the others -- compelling from beginning to end. I got laze about four chapters into the work and switched to the Kindle editing. The lighter wait, ease of taking it from place to place, allowed me to read this story without taking much time out, regardless of where I happened to be. If I had some spare time, I fired up the Kindle and read more until I finished the story.
Again, Kaza's research has paid off, giving us further fantastic glimpses into a slightly different take on the fates and furies of mythology. Erec's solution is nothing short of remarkable.
If there is anything that bothers me about the series, it is the developing relationship between Erec and Bethany. They are both young and for a boy to develop a strong romantic interest in Bethany (these stories all take place in a relatively short amount of time -- Erec has had one birthday in the course of the first five books), but it feels right and is something that you cheer for. I can see Bethany feeling the way she does (I raised three daughters), but not Erec. Still, not enough of a problem for me to give this anything less than five stars.

We begin the next book in the series as Erec Ulysses Rex returns to New Jersey. He had been away for months doing quests to become the next King of Alypium, where magic is known and practiced. Erec has missed his busy adoptive family. He has especially missed his best friend and secret crush Bethany. A stolen kiss has him hesitant to write a response to the letter she has sent him. She is in the castle at Alypium but is having strange urges to go to Baskania. Thanatos Argus Baskani is the Shadow Prince who is after the Great Secret, which will direct him to the Final Magic. Erec has cloudy thoughts that appear in times of crisis, that help him stop bad things from happening. Once before he had a cloudy thought and pretty much turned into a fire breathing dragon. His most recent cloudy though brought him to the realization that Bethany was in danger. And he was correct. She has been taken by Baskani. Erec must return to the Kingdom of the Keepers to rescue Bethany, but he won't be going alone. His family will endure this adventure with him. Erec must visit with the Fates to see if they can help him figure out a way to save Bethany. Of course, like any adventure to save a damsel in distress, the task ahead will not be an easy one. There will be only one way to save Bethany, the steps that Erec must take will be extremely challenging. These steps will guide him down his path to becoming the King of Alypium. He must go to the Nightmare Realm where no one has ever returned from. Readers will not have a clue as to what will happen with Erec. As a result, young readers will be turning the pages and follow along with Erec. At times they might even hold their breath. Kinglsey has done an excellent job offering spine tingling adventure that boys and girls will love.

This book raised the stakes for the series. Bethany has been captured by Baskania and Erec's quests become more dangerous with each draw from Al's well. Tons of old faces reappear along with a few new faces(the loyal pirate Griffin).

Most of Kingsley 'big reveals' don't come as a shock to me since I can see them several books away, but this book managed to surprise me a few times. But I did guess that

Erec continues to solve his quests in genius ways. The world of the Kingdom of the Keepers is very vivid with dangerous political dealings and Greek mythology in the mix. I love the world Kingsley has created and look forward to finish reading the series.

9-26-16 erec rex Kacey flanery

Erec rex is a kid that has to go through many tough quests to become king. One of his quests is to meet the night mare king and introduce himself. Later though he realizes that his real quest was to rescue the clown queen wanabelle. He rescues her and then he has to go to the furies. He tries to help them but he dies. He later gets resurrect to come back to life. Then he rescues his friend.
I think the theme of this storie is to never give up hope even when you think it is imposible. Erec goes through so many things that other people would never even dream of. even when things look dark they always come out fine. As in when he faced the furies he died but then came back to life
