Born in 1939 in Tokyo. Graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Creates outstanding picture books with a style that uses abundant bright colors. Awarded many awards such as the 18th Sankei Jido Shuppan Bunka Award with "Chiisai Kiiroi Kasa" (Kinnohoshisha), and the 18th Kodansha Shuppan Bunka Award with "E no Sukina Nekosan" (Doshinsha).
