Histoire correcte, mais qui aurait dû être rédigée dans un texte beaucoup plus court. Trop, trop, trop de détails inutiles sont donnés. Le vocabulaire utilisé tente d'être raffiné, mais ça n'ajoute en rien à la richesse de l'histoire ou du texte, et ça n'a comme résultat de rendre la lecture moins fluide.

La première demie du tome 1 m’a captivée alors qu’on voir le parcours de la famille de la guerre de Cracovie jusqu’au Canada. J’ai perdu l’intérêt par la suite.
Je me suis rendue compte cependant que j’ai probablement déjà lu ce livre il y a une vingtaine d’années. Je ne ne souviens plus de l’histoire cependant

Un de mes livres préféré de toujours💕 J’adore ces personnages, comment on grandit avec eux à travers le livre (qui s’étale sur plus de 10 ans de leur vie), et à quel point ils sont détaillés et vivants. C’est un livre sur les relations entre frères et sœurs, sur ce que la guerre peut faire à une personne, sur ce que c’est d’être étranger dans un pays. C’est sublime, la plume est magnifique et je ne saurais recommander assez❤️

This book was... A waste of time, mostly. I was assigned to read it in grade 12 French, and I thought at first that the synopsis sounded pretty good. I thought I could sit and read this giant of a book easily enough.
False. The exact opposite happened. The author, though telling a meaningful story, took wayyyyyyyy too long to get to her point. They added so many details and described so many little events that it became a little redundant.
I didn't even end up finishing this book because of the very slow plot line and the sheer lack of time I had to read it. Maybe I'm just a slow reader, but I feel I have a large amount of patience too. This book and I did not hit it off at all.
I have it three stars, however, because I thought that the plot line was good, and if it had been written a a quarter of the density, I would have been a liveable story.

This book made me cry... oh boy did I cry. The story of 3 young siblings forced to flee their home in order to survive the nazi regime. But the book doesn't dwell on the war, but rather on the multiple obstacles and heartbreak that the children have to endure and try to survive. I read this in high school and it's a book that was so real and raw that everyone in school was on the waiting list to read. It was just that good.
