Unfair . . . brilliant . . . illegal . . . inevitable. High-frequency trading has been described in many different ways, but one thing is for sure--it has transformed investing as we know it. All About High-Frequency Trading examines the practice of deploying advanced computer algorithms to read and interpret market activity, make trades, and pull in huge profi ts―all within milliseconds. Whatever your level of investing expertise, you'll gain valuable insight from All About High-Frequency Trading 's sober, objective explanations
An accessible introduction to High-Frequency Trading (HFT). General enough so that it doesn't feel outdated. I suppose I would qualify as a practitioner and this book (however "primitive" by others' standards) helped sharpen the edges and reinforce existing knowledge.
If you're interested in the topic or if you're friends with high-frequency traders who won't shut up about their day jobs, this is the book you should purchase. There's not much else out there aside from Inside the Black Box.
This is not an advanced book on HFT. It is an introduction to trading and HFT. And with that perspective, I really think it is a great book. From the very basics of names and concepts, to the most simple algorithms, to a more advanced example. This book has in a less than 200 pages a very good introduction on the topic, even to the point of dealing with both views of the "moral" issue (is HFT evil?)
A nice introduction to HFT. What I liked most is the balance between trading theory and the practice of HFT: not only do you gain insight into the trading strategies used by HFTs but also how a HFT system could be build. The most surprising but fun part about this book for me was a walkthrough of a theoretical HFT system and what that system would do in real-time. Would recommend overall for beginners interested in the subject.
Good book that goes over the basic of HFT, strategies employed and design implementations. The author does a good job of keeping himself as neutral on his own stance.
Lacks the preachy, moralising tone of many texts on the subject and just gives an accurate and effective description of strategies and technologies employed in the high frequency trading sector.
