These are tres chic earrings - and the author/designer shows you exactly how to make them! Lots of wire wrapping and name dropping going on in this book. I'm betting a lot of these designs will look dated in a couple years but for NOW, they look great and the techniques the author shows you are unique! Great inspiration.
The book is an illustration of patterns designed to look like earrings worn by famous movie stars. Shows you how to make them and explains the inspiration and colorways of the designs. Best part of the book is that the designs are named after the stars, without outright coming out and saying 'yes these are a pair of earrings in the style that Jean Harlow wore.'
I appreciate so much that the book covers the classic stars, although disappointed that the variety of earrings worn by the more modern stars are so similar. They all use the technique of stacking and wrapping various firepolished beads to a wire frame. Although this is a popular style, especially right now in 2018, I was hoping for a bit more variety.
I do plan to make several of the earrings from this book, mostly for my mom who is a big fan of most of the starlets in the book.
And I plan to make the aforementioned Jean Harlow earrings for myself. :D
Many notable stars from the 1960s era are not included, which is one of the more dissapointing parts of this book. But overall, not a bad book, hard to find fresh ideas for earrings, and the modern take is great for keeping on trend.
This book is packed with beautiful and easy earrings to make. For the beginner, there are great explanations and how to’s. For the more experienced wire worker, the clear photographs are all that’s needed to make the designs in a short amount of time. I was positively surprised with this book and I’m excited to get started making almost all of these designs! The only thing I would criticise is the format of basically being just one long page. All in all, I absolutely recommend this book.
Ive taken a few jewelry making classes from my local bead shop and Im really into making earrings for gifts. This book not only helped me in comming up with a way to bring my ideas to life but it also has really good instruction to make those listed in the book.
Elegant, unique and interesting earring styles. I wish I were more crafty, this book inspires me to re-create these designs. She makes it look so simple . . . hardly. :-)
