Review for "Crystal Tears" by Elena Kedros:
It's the first book from the "Girls of Olympus" series written by Italian author, Elena Kedros. The story follows three teenage girls whose lives change after a series of strange events. They have to protect their crystal tears from being stolen by Ares, the god of war. Will they manage to do it?
Action, teenage hood, love, courage, making decisions, friendship, magic and much more can be found in this book. Most girls will be able to identify themselves with the three protagonists. Some themes like child-parent relationship and past-present are developed in this novel.
I recommend this book to readers of ages 10 and up because some scenes are scary for smaller children.

This was a decent read but I kept comparing it to Percy Jackson's world and it doesn't even come close to Rick Riordan.
I see, now, that the author is Italian which kinda confuses me as to why not choose Roman mythology instead of Greek, but oh well.

3 meiden, 3 godinnen, een wereld om te redden!
Ik zag deze serie, wel, boek 1,3 en 4 bij Boekenfestijn en ik was meteen verliefd. De tekenstijl herinnerde me aan W.I.T.C.H, en de blurb ook wel een beetje. En nu ik het heb gelezen, ja, ik had vaak het gevoel dat ik W.I.T.C.H - godinnen editie aan het lezen was. :P
Zeg hallo tegen Sid (een beetje chagerijnige, pittige meid), Hoon (een studiebol (met wat extras), Luce (een populaire, leuke, vrolijke meid). 3 meiden die al snel uit zullen vinden dat ze heel wat gemeenschappelijk hebben (naast een gedeelde verjaardag) en ook elkaar nodig gaan hebben. Luce en Hoon zijn al vrij snel vriendinnen zodra ze elkaar in de eerste klas tegenkomen, maar het duurt heel wat langer voordat Sid ook bij het groepje komt, en dat gaat ook al gepaard met wat geknor. :P
Luce was meteen mijn favoriet van het hele boek. Ze is lief, leuk, grappig, en ze laat niks in de weg staan, deze meid weet wat ze wilt. En ja, ze is een beetje het stereotype van een blonde meid (niet al te slim, af en toe niet de beste opmerkingen). Ik was ook heel blij dat, ondanks dat ze dus blijkbaar best rijk is, niet alles krijgt en ook niet verwend is tot de max. Ik was daar even bezorgd om, maar gelukkig viel het helemaal mee. En wie zij is als godin? Past perfect bij haar! En daar komt zij ook achter zodra ze het weet.
Hoon? Een Koreaanse meid met blauwe ogen, een meid die best slim is, maar ook een beetje valsspeelt doordat ze kan "klikken". Ik zal niet verklappen wat het is, lees het boek maar. In het begin was het een beetje vreemd, maar later, als we uitvinden wie zij is als godin, tja toen snapte ik het wel. Ik vond het wel erg typisch wat haar ouders als baan hadden, maar ach. Wel mooi dat die ouders hun eigen kinderen inschakelen om te inventariseren. Ik kan me voorstellen dat zoiets een keer leuk is, maar daarna niet meer.
Sid, of Sidney. Tja. Ik vond haar strontvervelend en een kreng. Later kon ik haar wat meer begrijpen en vond ik haar een beetje minder erg, maar toch.. ze is nog steeds niet mijn favoriet en ik weet ook niet of ze dat ooit zal worden. Ik denk het niet. Ik vond het wel een beetje jammer dat haar godin die was, ik had er eentje verwacht die wat slechter was. :P
Het meeste van het boek is de meiden die hun draai vinden in school, een project doen, zich frustreren over leraren en school. Maar zodra deze meiden elkaar vinden en de gezamelijke verjaardag er is, dan begint het echt. We hadden natuurlijk al hints gekregen, maar dan gaat alles in een stroomversnelling. Ik zal niks verder verklappen, maar ik was blij voor Sid (en ook wel verdrietig) en superblij (maar wederom verdrietig) voor Hoon. Ik vond het heel interessant om te lezen wat er gebeurd is in de andere wereld, en wat er met de meiden is gebeurd en wat de plannen zijn/wat er nog gaat komen.
Ik had af en toe problemen met lezen omdat de zinnen soms vreemd waren.
Het boek heeft ook wat illustraties hier en daar en een heleboel in het midden (die ook allemaal in kleur zijn). Ik vond de stijl heel erg leuk, maar het zorgde er wel voor dat ik nog meer W.I.T.C.H vibes kreeg.
Wel, ik kan helaas niet verder met de serie tot ik boek 2 heb gevonden, helaas was die niet aanwezig op Boekenfestijn. Dus hopelijk vind ik het volgende deel zodat ik weer verder kan, maar het kan wel heel erg lang duren omdat het onvindbaar is. :(
Ik zou dit boek zeker aanraden als je de kans hebt om hem te lezen. Leuke karakters, mythologie, mysterie, vriendschap, en nog veel meer! Heerlijk om te lezen!

Elena Kedros nous propose ici une histoire prenante qui mêle monde moderne et mythologie. Nul doute que les enfants et jeunes adolescents devraient apprécier les personnages auxquels certains pourront peut-être s’identifier tout en se laissant emporter par un premier tome plutôt riche en action. Je conseillerais également ce livre aux adultes amateurs de romans jeunesse, ce roman possédant tous les atouts pour leur faire passer un bon moment de lecture.

Je l'ai lu avec ma soeur, l'histoire est intéressante et les personnages sont attachants mais l'action traine un peu. Il y a des périodes dans le livre où l'histoire avance très vite et est prennante mais entre ces séquences d'action l'histoire retombe souvent sur un rythme trop lent qui nous a fait ressortir de l'univers.
Mis a part ça, Les larmes de cristal était assez nostalgique et vraiment bien.

AVISO: adoro los libros que “tienen algo de mitología” el libro tendría que ser malo a conciencia para que no me lo leyese o no me gustase, y como no se ha dado el caso, mi impresión va muy influenciada por eso.
La historia comienza con la llegada de Luce a su primer año de instituto tarde, como siempre y sin su camiseta favorita ya que su hermano se la ha manchado, así que tiene que ir con una camiseta que le da mala suerte. Pero en el instituto, no todo sale mal, allí conoce a Hoon, que aunque parece un poco rara es muy simpática y la saca de algún que otro apuro en clase. Inmediatamente se hacen amigas, aunque odian a la que Luce ha bautizado como malaluna (si, la imaginación y un mote con gancho no es lo de Luce, por si os lo preguntabais), una chica que parece estar siempre de mal humor, Side.
Al salir del instituto e ir a casa, para colmo de males, Side choca contra ellas y destroza la bici de Hoon (en la que iban Hoon y Luce para su casa), y cuando digo destroza, es que no queda ni el pedal en su sitio, siniestro total. Lo que no contribuye a que Side les caiga mejor. Y encima, para colmo de males, tienen que hacer las 3 un trabajo juntas, ¿se tirarán de los pelos o acabarán siendo amigas?
Mientras tanto, se intercalan escenas de un Dios al que está torturando Ares (esta vez el malo no es Hades sino Ares) para sacarle la información de adónde han huido las tres diosas que le quedan por dominar de todo el Olimpo, pero como el amor es una causa muy digna de tortura, pues el Dios no lo dice y se queda calladito, esperando poder comunicarse con las chicas en algún momento para poder decirles la verdad sobre su origen y que luchen para sacar al malvado Ares del Olimpo y liberad al pueblo. ¿Lo lograrán?
Pero eso es mejor que lo vayáis descubriendo vosotros, si le dais una oportunidad a este libro, que tiene una edición muy bonita con dibujos de las protagonistas en todos los capítulos y en el centro hay una serie de dibujos a color sobre estas chicas, que para que las conozcáis mejor, aquí os dejo un breve resumen sobre ellas.
Sid es una chica huérfana de padre, uno de los misterios más grandes del libro, no se sabe muy bien cómo desapareció, nunca lo dejan del todo claro, pero seguro que se va resolviendo en el resto de los libros de la trilología, lo que ha afectado bastante a su carácter, es fuerte, demasiado, y no sabe controlar su fuerza, lo que la da un montón de problemas y provoca que no sea la mejor en esgrima.
Luce es la típica chica guapísima y siempre a la moda, que con un guiño a cualquiera, consigue todo lo que le da la gana, hija de padres ricos, cuenta con una macrohabitación adornada con espejos y todo aparato que alguna vez haya deseado.
Hoon es asiática, y la más inteligente del grupo (topicazo, el asiático siempre es el listo del grupo), sabe todas las respuestas de cualquier cosa que se la pregunte, no porque lo haya escuchado, sino porque al oír el click, lo tiene ya metido en su cabeza.
Original (ni que no esté llena de tópicos tampoco), no puedo decir que sea, porque no lo es, las historias del Olimpo y de dioses, ya están bastante trilladas, véase Percy, mismamente, y por poner un ejemplo famoso, pero a mí me ha gustado para pasar el rato, como los capítulos son cortos, lo he leído muy rápido, aunque tampoco esperéis que sea una historia fiel, fiel a la mitología, la mitología la usa cuando le vale, y sino le vale, pues la transforma para dar sentido a la historia en otra cosa completamente diferente.
Si vais buscando romance, id a otro sitio, eso también os lo digo, porque será en la segunda parte donde suceda, o eso parece algo más, de momento en esta primera parte de esta trilogía dan a entender que habrá, y van preparando el terreno para más adelante.
Y lo bueno es que en septiembre saldrá la 2º parte en español, menos tiempo de espera para mí, ¡¡bien!!. Aunque al ser una hexalogía, a ver cuándo la termino...

It was not a difficult read in itself, I mean this novel is clearly intended for a younger audience... early teens, maybe.
It is good for discovering Greek mythology. The author did her research. However, some points continue to 'itch' me.
I keep in mind that this is for a younger audience and that it is meant to 'interest' people into Greek mythology.
Kind of like an introduction to it, if you wish. However, there are some points which could have been more... polished... if it had been intended for a more mature and knowledgeable audience.
BUT, because it was so much different than what I know of the myths, it kept me turning the pages for more. I just kind of wish that the novel was better written (or translated, rather).
But, again, this was intended for a younger audience... so it's forgivable!!

A compromise, Belgian style... I didn't really like this book, but my 12-year old daughter thinks the series is amazing (read it when she was 10-11). She cannot wait to read 5 & 6, but unfortunately they have not yet been translated to Dutch.
Maybe, in part, that's where it went wrong for me: I was somewhat annoyed by translation errors. Not that I could do much better, but then again: that is not my job... Furthermore, this book has clearly been written for teenagers (obviously), but sometimes it seems it was also written BY a teenager. So I looked up the author, but really couldn't find much at first sight...
Lastly, I really did not care for Luce. She is hateful, self-centered and superficial and annoyingly stupid. I try to avoid people like that in real life, so I really don't like them as protagonists in books. I know people have different personalities, but this was really over-the-top, I think, for a main character.
So, as I said (wrote), a compromise: My daughter Elina wants 5 stars and I would give it 2. we can't give half stars, so because she is part of the intended reader group, she gets the upper hand (don't they always, our children?) and we give it a 4.

I've read this book when i was 12 years old. I loved it so much! It was the only book that i enjoyed reading at that age. These books are a perfect way for children to learn about the greek mythology. Despite the fact that it has quite a lot of pages for a 12year old, the way the sentences are formed and the usage of the vocabulary makes it easy to read! Too bad that only the first 2 books were in my language that year. I am considering reading the whole series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Pretty, Charming, and Nostalgic
Fetele din Olimp was such a beautiful read for me at that age. The story was nice, but what truly stood out were the phenomenal illustrations-they brought the whole world to life in a magical way.
I’m actually sad they didn’t continue publishing the next books in English, because I was genuinely curious to see where the story would go. It had so much potential, and part of me still wishes I could follow the characters further.

I read this book when I was like, 10 I think? And it was my favourite book when I was younger, I didn't even know it was from a series, I would like to read the other books too, the only problem is that I won't find them anywhere and I probably won't like them anymore since I'm now 16, I wish I would've read them when I was at the age to read them.

The book with which he can learn so much about mythology, and that will cause a lot of feeling in you ... The pain, the suffering, the adrenaline, the desire for justice, love .... I would recommend it to all fans of fantasy mixed with mythology .. . :)

I couldn’t find the English version literally anywhere?? So I read it in french
Still a vibe so many years later! Tbh I don’t remember anything in the next books so I’m looking forward to them
