Melina is a captain in the Alliance. The Prime, a war-like species that has kept itself isolated until now, has just joined the Alliance. She ends up assisting a Prime vessel in trouble, only to find out that she and Wulf, the vessel's captain, are biologically designated mates.

Well that's the setup, and it wasn't bad, but it was just boring to watch the totally confident, "I can handle anything" Melina and the equally confident, "I can't let anything happen to you" Wulf interact. Constant dialogue like, "You have to stop being so overprotective and let me do my job," "I'm sorry, I'm trying to control my natural protectiveness of you, be patient," "Yeah I know it's hard, kiss me again." It's sad because I really like empowered heroines, but it was sooooo boring and repetitive after a while. Basically Melina and Wulf constantly marveling at how precious they are to each other, interrupted by random rebels trying to kill them.

Prime Obsession started strong with adventure, action, and a kick-ass heroine: Captain Melina Dmitri, commander of the Alliance starship Leonidas. Melinas later learns that she is one of the lost females of the Prime race, with whose military forces the Alliance merged via a treaty. Enter the hero, Captain Wulf Caradoc, commander of the Prime vessel, Galantis, and the eldest son and heir apparent of the Prime leader.

Prime mates bear a matching symbol on their bodies that glows and throbs when in the presence of the mate. The mates are able to communicate via telepathy, and they strengthen one-another's psychic abilities when they are together.

In the action that ensues, demonstration and explanation of their abilities as mates is repeated to a degree that it bogs down both the romance and the plot. I still enjoyed the story, but not enough for me to continue with the series. But that is just me. A number of my friends really love this series. If you enjoy sci-fi-adventure-romance, you may enjoy The Prime Chronicles series.

I read this four years ago and hesitantly gave it three stars with a warning about growly alpha males and womb clenching. This time around, I can't finish it so I'm marking it DNF and taking away a star.

Another book that was really good and then took a dive. Melina is on leave when one of the men under her command starts a fight with a group of men that are about to join the Alliance. She goes to stop him and the men she's protecting see that she has a mark of one of their mates, when they didn't realize there were any of their women alive outside of their planet. They find out Wulf, the brother of two of the men is her mate. He's ready to go grab her and they have to convince him that she's not like the women they know. There's some getting to know each other and fighting not only the Alliance enemies from the enemies from the guy's own planet. Then the story starts spiraling and got super boring in my opinion.

Although the H/h were very strong leads, their obstinate personalities got old quickly. They butt heads incessantly, but during those few moments when they worked in tandem, that’s when the story would hold my interest most. The side characters were a hoot and I’m curious to see who ends up with whom.

Great science fiction read. Loved the characters, all alpha types, males and females but still willing to make compromises.
The world is very well constructed and the history is there. This create a real identity and makes it easier for the reader to immerge him or herself in the book.
Begun the 2nd book right away that´s revealing :)

The story itself kept me captivated and it was a quick read. What almost kept me from finishing is the way they talk with each other. The female lead was okay while the males are annoying. I just say: Different kinds of growls... Overall something kept me reading and I don't tend to finish a book that is not entertaining. I am actually considering reading other books from the series.

A good read.

The male lead is an uber-Alpha Male who comes off for most of the book as overbearing and a complete... Well I would call him the south end of a north bound horse. But that just me. Towards the last third of the story he does tone down into something resembling a passable mate but the heroine still has a lot of work to do to whip him into some sort of shape she can live with.

Again, the action is hot and heavy, both in and out of the bedroom.

The writing is tight and the female lead his more than strong enough to balance out the Captain Caveman hero.

Another book from Mrs. Michaels that belongs on your shelf.

This was an okay read for me. There is really only one sex scene. The rest of the scenes are just foreplay and then the action is grayed out. I liked the basis of the story but the heroine is attacked like 8 freaking times. When I got to about 70% of the book I just started skimming the rest. I was a little disappointed. So, I I don't know if I will read the next in the series.

Absolutely loved this story. It is so well written that I had trouble putting it down to do basic things like work and sleep. A well thought out intergalactic world, great characters, an exciting but not overdone story line with enough sexy bits to keep it spicy. Would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys intergalactic romances. I will definitely be reading more.

This book started out as a 4.5 star book. Lots of action, good tempo, and believable chemistry. But the author just kept dragging it on. The horse, once healthy, is now very much dead. Please stop beating it.

I really really enjoyed this book.
The story was well written with an exciting plot and lots of excitement and action.

The characters were strong, heroic and hot. Loved the main protagonists, their interactions were so well depicted, they had great chemistry.

Isolationist Cejuru Prime have signed on to the Galactic Alliance and as allies can call on Alliance ships for aid. So when Captain Melina Dmitros hears a distress call from a Prime ship she heads to the rescue. Captain Wulf Caradoc's, Galanti, is under attack by pirates. During the rescue Wulf realizes Melina is his gemate, his bonded match. Melina, raised by archaeologists Terran parents, did not know she was Prime. But the match proves difficult to survive. A well financed group supporting 2 motives is against it and willing to go to any means to kill the pair. Lots of space battles, intrigue and romance. Good first volume in a series.

Good out in space romance with a Alpha male and a military women

I loved that Melinda was a tough cookie and made Wulf work to get her. I loved that Wulf was all alpha prime. I would of like to see more drama in the meeting of Wulfs past sexual partners . I did feel like they got too lovie dovie by the middle of the book . I'm also not a big fan of a series where there's a different couple every book I like to read a couple books of the same couple in a series.

What an adventure!

I highly recommend this book/series! Enjoyed the storyline, the well developed characters, the action, the delicate balance with the intimate scenes. Gift yourself with this book it is one you will read multiple times and each time find another layer to the story.

Good start to a new series

This book is for people that love a set of strong alpha. He and she have to learn to compromise and appreciate/use each other's strength. Both are used to being in charge, learning to share is not always easy. One of my favorite thing about the characters is their interaction. I am looking forward to reading the next

I did not finish. Her: I'm a warrior, I can handle anything. Her: Gets injured. Him: She's a trained soldier just like me; we can fight together. Him: Why won't she stay put like I commanded so I can save her? Two people with a telepathic bond that can't communicate at all. Two trained, high ranking officers that believe the best plan of attack is too attack large forces single-handedly.

The action is really good in this series. The female character is strong without being annoying. The first book is the best. The action and overall story arc is good, but the characters get cookie cutter ish in the later books.

Decent scifi fated mates romance. The book felt like it was slow even though there were lots of battles and danger. I think the main problem for me was the relationship was mainly resolved in the first half then the book kept going without much relationship tension… it just didn’t do it for me.

The Prime people are joining the fight. But they are also looking for mates and the newest Lost One is a battle mate in the best way.

DNF @48%

I tried. The book heroine is a strong (seemingly) independent woman, which is a big plus, and an honest world building was there, too, but for me this book did not click.

As soon as I would get "into" the story, some author POV or a Mary Sue would pop up: "well, hello, there". All the convenient things, just falling into places did not help getting into the book trance that defines a very good book (for me, at least).

This started out so promising. I was into this world, the characters, and the villains. And then I hit 55% and it all went to shit.
I can't take ANY author seriously when their H/h say 'I love you.' on their 3rd or 4th day of interaction. The heroine, Melina, is like 29 years old and captains a war ship and squadron. I don't see a woman like that falling in insta-love.
It's ridiculous and lazy writing IMO.
It takes work and effort to build up a believable relationship between 2 characters and 300 pages is more than enough time to do so.
On top of the insta-love issue Melina has a complete change in character. She goes from strong independence to wishy-washy boundaries. I have no idea if the author resolved this once their mating process was complete but I didn't stick around to find out.

REVIEW: The book was good. I thought that the author tried so hard to make the book seem badass that there was too much of the same format of writing, thus making this book a wee boring. There are things that could have been fixed to make the book better, but overall everything was entertaining for me to read. But I do have to say that Monette still has some practice to do for her "badass" writing. I loved the romance, and the need for dominance that was displayed throughout the book, and i can't wait to read the second book in this series(if there is one).

DONT READ FORWARD.SPOILERS TO ALL. I LIKE TO JOT DOWN THINGS THAT HAPPEN THROUGHOUT BOOK TO RE-READ AND REFRESH MY MIND.After Mel did her kickass moves to beat up this soon-to-be prisoner, she was almost fully naked, and three alpha males in the room stared right at her birthmark that was close to her hip.
Huw and Iolyn are second and third to leader of the prime Ilar.
Maren.
While Melina was recovering in the hospital she fell asleep, and soon afterwards maren(now melina is his niece), Huw and Iolyn checked melina's birthmark, and turns out her birthmark is the same as wulfs!
nowicki-second n command of melina and has feelings for her
melina has a rare ability to sense danger and emotions around her.
MElina is a battle mate.
melina finds out she's wolf gem-mate so she ran and escaped from him, and ran to her parents place(adopted parents). a few weeks later a place attacked where her parents were at, a traitor has told someone that melina is a battle-mate, so now they want to steal her. Sadly, her parents died, but at least their in heaven together somewhere.
Well, so there are lots of traitors and fighting for their life complications.
there were also a few traitors that were related to the prime, like wulf's cousin's husband and one of wulf's cousin.
lorinda-wife of Ilar
Beria and luke(aunt and uncle also sister of ilar) are the bad guys also in the book. But of course, melina and wulf and the family made out plans to do so.

I’ve been really into sci-fi romance lately and Prime Obsession by Monette Michaels is a pretty awesome read if you’re interested in this subgenre. It’s based on the fated mates trope, which I don’t always love, but it really worked for me this time around, because Melina and Wulf probably wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for Wulf’s family seeing her “birthmark”, which the Prime know to be a gemate sign. Her optimal biological match, Wulf, has an identical gemat sign on his body, and the lovely cover folks at Liquid Silver Books have included this detail on the cover, which is pretty cool. You can’t really see Melina’s unless you look closely because it’s above her right hip bone and in the shadows but Wulf’s is pretty obvious since it’s on his chest.

The best part of this book is definitely Melina and Wulf’s relationship. They’re both such alpha personalities and it’s a lot of fun watching them find the balance between being in charge and sharing leadership. Wulf has a lot more trouble with this since he is ultra alpha, in all his growly glory, but Melina also has trouble sitting back and letting Wulf lead at times. They’re both such great soldiers and leaders and this gives their developing relationship a lot of heat.

There is also a ton of heat between the sheets, so this book definitely isn’t for folks who are looking for a more cerebral romance. Sex is a big part of their relationship and Michaels isn’t shy about writing it, or writing about their uber lusty feelings.

I also loved the plotting in Prime Obsession. The book isn’t just about Melina and Wulf coming together. It’s also about them working to uncover a plot to stop the Prime from joining the Alliance and diluting the “pure” bloodlines. There are a lot of layers to this plot and it takes Melina and Wulf on a journey with a lot of twists and turns, which I really appreciated. And it gives the reader an opportunity to see how they function as a team, developing their battle-mate bond and building trust in each other.

My one criticism of Prime Obsession would be that I had trouble keeping all of Wulf’s family’s names straight in the later part of the novel. When there were just a few names to remember towards the start, and everyone was getting decent page time, it was relatively straightforward but we meet a lot more of Wulf’s family in the second half of Prime Obsession and I was a little overwhelmed.

If you’re looking for a romance with spaceships, aliens, and action, you should definitely check out Prime Obsession. The second book in The Prime Chronicles is also available and I’m going to be purchasing it from an e-retailer just as soon as I finish this post!
