Distant Shores, Silent Thunder

Rate this book
No matter how much we plan, life—and people—have a way of surprising us.

For Doctor KT O'Bannon, a near-fatal tragedy derails a career and disrupts everything she thought she knew about herself and her future. Battered and nearly broken, she turns for solace to the one woman who knows her best, her ex-lover Doctor Tory King. Their unexpected reunion in Provincetown uncovers old wounds, forges new bonds, and awakens long-buried passions. While Tory's lover Sheriff Reese Conlon struggles to uncover a deadly drug ring and Officer Bri Parker navigates the torturous path between friendship and desire, Tory and KT—and those who love them—are forced to examine the boundaries of love, friendship, and the ties that transcend time.

Radclyffe has me hooked on this series. It’s getting better and better. The more we get to know about the characters, the more fascinating it is. The romances are wonderful and the police work and cases in this small town are exciting. This author is really world class in creating groups of people for series.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Again...BRILLIANT

Yep guess my titles are getting obvious. Do I care?....NOPE! Another Provincetown instalment and they just keep getting better. New characters are introduced and a community is being built which is making the story even more realistic. Radclyffe's descriptions are for me the best part. She puts you right there. You can see the harbour, the sky, the sand or somebody's eyes. You can feel the sun on your face. I know from reading other reviews people say she is predictable. I won't argue against that but I personally feel predictability is necessary when writing a series. You need continuity. I love Radclyffe as an author, she has a talent that captivates me from beginning to the end. I also enjoy the way she tackles difficult issues with sensitivity. Now I'm off to read book four, enjoy this one because I did very much.

I cannot get enough of this series. Radclyffe was able to redeem KT and introduce a new strong character Pia that humanized her. The maturity of Reese and Tori was on full display throughout and I was very pleased Radclyffe did not make up some contrived love triangle between KT, Tori and Reese as that would be an insult to the rich history of their relationship forged in the prior two books. Bri was much stronger in this story and is a perfect mirror of Reese, which appears to be necessary given some of the discussion about Reese’s future (which I won’t go into to avoid spoilers :) ). On to the next in the series!

In episode 3 of the Provincetown Tales series, Tori’s ex turns up in town in need of refuge and redemption, while Tori herself is badly in need of a temporary business partner.

What ensues is a fairly familiar arc of love and faux trauma, in Provincetown at large, which is reassuringly comfortable but could have brought so much more. (And I’m not not suggesting here that KT should have disturbed the the Tori-Reese universe....that would have been too far fetched!)

I really wanted KT to be a bit more sassy tho, and maybe put it up a bit more to Reese, who has increasingly become so honorable and loyal that it is quite literally unbelievable. Everyone’s far too deferential to the Sheriff, who has become one dimensional and preachy. (*ducks head)

That said, the tension between KT and Tori, the nuances of Tori’s narrative (doctor, lover, mother, wronged partner and independent soul) and the broadening of the story into other characters makes this a comforting listen.

In tone and tenor though, it never falls out of step with the series and if you’ve been enjoy the tales so far, you’ll know what to expect and not be let down.

No matter how much I hated KT for what she had done to Tory, I couldn't help but feel terrible for her in this novel. Reese's father is that ever present threat that holds a gauntlet over Reese and Tory, even with the brith of their daughter. Bri is still being Bri, and I love her dearly, but man, she has to wise up. I like the intro of Pia Torres, she could be interesting if she holds her place in the story line.
As always, great plot development and that ever present tension that makes Radclyffe's books so enjoyable to read, and impossible to put down, lol.

Kt and Tyler were ex lovers. KT suffers a terrible injury and can not be a surgeon and ends up in Tyler's office looking for a job. The characters are great and the story includes love, friendship, boundaries and mystery. The plot is good and involves all the characters I enjoyed the book and recommend it to all romance and mystery readers/.

I absolutely love this series and book three is another excellent addition.
Reese, Tory, and Reggie are so adorable together. I love how well Tory and Reese know one another. Reese is not at all jealous or worried with Tory’s ex helping out at the clinic. She knows Tory loves her and she knows that Tory still hurts and needs closure from their bad breakup. Tory is amazing as well. She wants Reese to quite the Marines, but she knows it’s a vital part of Reese and she won’t make her do that. I also think it’s heart warming to see how close they’ve gotten to Reese’s Mom Kate and her lover Jean. Kate and Jean are wonderful grandmothers to Reggie.
KT is back in book three. She’s been wounded by a knife to the hand. Possibly ruining her surgical career forever. She comes to Tory asking to help in the clinic and Tory reluctantly agrees. I wanted to hate KT for what she did to Tori, but I think like Bri, in book two, she got lost, but unlike Bri she wasn’t able to work her way back to Tory before the damage was done. You can tell she loves and still thinks of Tory as her safe space, and that she hates herself for hurting her. I was so happy the two were able to find closure and recover a friendship lost. I think Pia is just the woman KT needs. She touches a part of KT no one else has, she helps to mend not only her hand but also her heart. She gives KT her career back and helps her see that she is more than the mistake she made years ago.
I’m glad to see Bri have a true friend in Allie. I think their friendship is something they both needed. I was so scared when they went undercover. Bri has already faced so much in her young life. That asshole hurt her and I’m so glad KT was their to patch her up. I love that Carre got to come home and be with her and that she got her black belt. She deserved it. I can’t wait for Carre to be back permanently.
I love these woman and the way they support and love one another.

This won a Lambda Literary award. Really?

KT O'Bannon, trauma surgeon, meets physical therapist Pia Torres. The usual happens, though it does have a slightly different twist from Rad's others. I liked the character of KT. What I didn't like was the omniscient/head hopping POV etc., etc.

Actually, this is the third in the Provincetown series and does continue the saga of Sheriff Reese Conlon and Dr. Tory King. But because they are living happily ever after, new characters are introduced to provide some sexual tension.

My wife's first comment, on seeing the cover was, "Thunder isn't silent. That's why it's thunder."

Book 3 of the series has the Provincetown Police Department finally crack (pun intended) the case on how young people are acquiring drugs on the island. Our favorite lesbian couple is back and a new couple makes their debut.

K.T.

Well, this story arc helped me with some of the misgivings that I had about K.T. I am glad to see and witness what she found. I was even more happy to see that she caused no additional hurts. Because, then she would have to be ran out of Provincetown. I got a little more background about her, but it still NEVER answered the question of “why?” And “how?” It didn’t go deep enough into the past. I also want to hear about the the things that she wanted to say but could not put into words w/Pia.

It was hard reading all the different combinations of people. There was investigative work, Pia and working w/K.T., K.T. And Tory, Tory and Reese, Reese and Bri, Bri and Allie, Bri and Caroline…so much. But one good thing…there was plenty of opportunity for new love to blossom and many many physical love trysts (my favorite).

$3.35…If I had a nickel for every time I read the word “lover” in this book, I’d have about $3.35. I started tallying using actual coins. It was a fun game. I think I’ll play it with the next book in the series, which I hope will be better than this one. I always know I’m in for a lot of “lover” usage when I read Radclyffe books, but it just got to me in this one—probably because it felt like I was reading a book, not written to tell the story of KT’s trauma or any crime in the community, but written to specifically set up the next book in the series no matter how forced or random the foreshadowing seemed. Of course, I could also be mistaken about that because I have not read the next book in the series. If so, then this book has some REALLY random stuff thrown in, and it’s even worse than the 3 stars I gave it for being…fine.

4 stars because of KT’s appearance in the book. If it weren’t so good, I would have rated 2!

For someone who cheats, KT doesn’t deserve someone who could love unconditionally like Pia and certainly Tory’s forgiveness. It frustrates the hell out of me that Radclyffe even thought of plotting KT as a main character in this book of the series. I couldn’t find it in my heart to forgive someone like her. KT doesn’t know how to love in the first place. She broke off a 12 years relationship because she had a tryst with a nurse for whom she didn’t even care. Just... GAH!

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this book. I say surprisingly because a good chunk of it had to do with KT and to be honest she is a character I didn't like. Maybe it's that I'm loyal to a fault, but I will never understand what would compel someone to cheat on someone they supposedly loved. But Radclyffe you have done it to me again and somehow wrote this story to where I was actually rooting for her. I guess if she had never done what she did to Tori, than not one of these characters would have met. Can someone please find Ali a woman?

Can't believe how much Bri has grown and I love her character. I'm not going to lie, I'm liking KT and Pia's developing relationship. The author, has a way of making you see more of each character, not just their mistakes... hell, we all make mistakes! some come at a higher cost.

Wedding, is what I was waiting for!

Wonderful. I am quickly realizing that this series equals or even surpasses the Honor Series as my favorite. Reese Conlon is perhaps my favorite character, and the relationship between she and Tory is riveting. I really enjoyed the addition of KT into the mix. It took me some time to warm to her, but as things between KT and Pia heated up, I found them adorable together. I worry for Bri and Allie, although my fears over Bri straying away from Caroline have been assuaged. Always the threat from above for Reese, her vindictive father an ever present danger to her happiness. I am almost afraid the read the next book, but read it I must.

I started with this book of the series. Definitely felt like I missed out on the first 2 books for the backstory because too many people were talking that I didn't know about. I did enjoy the story and the narrator. Am going to have to read the first 2 books now !
