This book is no good. The critics were surreptitiously brainwashed into thinking it was excellent literature, but we know the truth. How can a book about life in high school-about the crappy relationship games, about dealing with sadistic, alcoholic fathers, about coordinating the most cerebral and stirring pranks, about getting laid, about getting tanked beyond coherence at parties, about how the only thing that matters in a small town is how popular you are-how can a book like that be any good at all?
This book was amazing in the way the author inter-weaved all his characters into one fluid story. There was so much depth to it and many many life lessons in it. I was enchanted with the story from the very first sentence so it was a fast read for me. It was written in a very unique way... a style that I've never experienced before from other authors. It was deeply touching and very realistic.
Teenage angst, pranks gone wrong, revenge, bullying, child abuse & resolution, somehow all tied in together seamlessly across several characters to create a very punchy, very REAL, view into the lives of this set of characters. Get it. It's damn good.
