A fantastic start that incorporates so much of what makes Superman so great. Williamson has a good understanding of both Clark and Superman as different identities which is a differentiation that's often missed or executed poorly in modern day media. The supporting characters are also handled well, with special mentions to Lois and Lex who both exude charisma. With so much heart and charm contained within a short number of pages, it's impressive that they've also managed to set up an engaging premise that leaves you wanting more.

Might as well jump on at a #1, right?

This was pretty fun. Classic 'nice guy' Clark, fiery Lois, and nefarious Lex Luthor. I liked the progression from light-hearted to 'oh daaaamn'. Clark is in a bit of trouble, it seems!

The artwork is pretty decent, and I particularly enjoyed some of the facial expressions. Colouring makes for a nice vivid story and the action was easy to follow.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. It's a great jump-on point if you're looking to get into Superman comics.

Wonderful start to a brand new series for the GOAT, Superman.

Insane how Williamson was able to capture the essence of all main and side characters with minimal pages. Looking forward to seeing how this run progresses!

Solid opening with great art but didn't impress me beyond simple Superman story. I did like the very ending though, that can lead into some good stuff.

Fantastic art by Campbell, who does pencils, inks, and color I do believe. The story has some promise, too.

Williamson and Campbell spring into a new beginning of sorts for Superman by having Lex in prison, but still pulling all the strings.
Lois takes Perry’s place at the Daily Planet and Lex Corps is changed to Supercorp as Mercy Graves heads up the new corporation using Superman as their figurehead with Lex’s blessing.
A lot of moving parts in this issue from Livewire (villainess from the animated series ) to the Parasite and others. I get a fun and menacing vibe from the book that I like that does make me want to stick around for a bit.

Okay I loved the callback to the first Superman film. "Who's got you?!" Fantastic. Thank you.
Also Clark using noise cancelling headphones to deal with sensory issues because the world can be too much for him at times? Another thank you. Fantastic.
And then the fact that Clark has trained himself to hear certain people and only certain people and then the list is like his besties and then Lex cracks me up.

There's just a lot going on here and the plot set up is fantastic and I look forward to seeing where this is going.

Read the Superman #1 Superman Day Special Edition.

I've resisted reading Williamson's Superman series until now. All it took was this Superman Day edition featuring a Nick Dragotta (Absolute Batman) cover. It's a great cover.

This was the cover to this edition:

I am not sure I am satisfied with the new format and its price. 4.99 for 32 pages issue, but really 28 pages when you take out the 2 pages title page and the 2 pages of "coming next in Superman". That is a litle pricey and really what we should get for 3.99 on a main title like Superman.

The content, which matters most, was pretty good. Would recommend.

A new start for the Man of Steel from writer Joshua Williamson, which captures the character so very well from his superpowered self to the beating heart and humanity that are so central to him. It captures the character voices so well amidst an engaging set-up, while Jamal Campbell captures it all in a stunning art style. Sign me up for this ongoing series.

I love picking up a #1 of a comic and not needing context. A great story that's easy to follow. With great art. And great coloring. I love seeing Clark/Superman as an everyday hero. Might continue this run. :) (I'm usually more of a batman person myself ;) )

This is fairly paint-by-numbers Superman fare, but the great art and little nuggets that Williamson throws in does still make it very intriguing, while not being overwhelming for new/lapsed readers, which I suppose is what a good #1 is supposed to do. Solid start, let's see how it shakes out.

I feel like there's a big event I skipped over, but it's easy to catch up on what's going on. Lois and Clark are adorable together as ever, and Lex, while locked up, is still up to no good. I kinda like how the art style feels like a mix of old and new.

Please eat the interns Lois. I’d love to see that.

Lex’s most diabolical plan is in the open. Trying to help Superman be better at his job.

Woof, I'm not liking the direction DC is taking with Superman stories. Clark was pretty good and in-character, but this Lex setup? No thank you.
