In the new direct-to-DVD movie Misty Island Rescue, the engines of Sodor are building a new Search and Rescue Center—and finding Thomas the Tank Engine is their first rescue mission! Boys, ages three to six, will enjoy this handsome jacketed-hardcover storybook, which captures all of the fun, mystery, and thrills of Thomas’ newest adventure.
Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
Based off of a popular children's film, Thomas the Train gets himself into a bit of a sticky situation. Thomas is so excited to travel on the ocean that when he is told there is no more room on today's ship, he finds a different solution. Thomas convinces the engineers to let him float on a raft behind the ship. When they get out to sea there is a big storm and Thomas gets disconnected from the ship. He ends up on an island where he meets new friends. Again, he gets himself into a bad situation because he convinces the other trains that he knows the best. Eventually they are rescued thanks to the quick thinking of his new friends. I would recommend this book to children with a little bit more reading experience because of the lengthiness of paragraphs and amount of words on each page.
Best Thomas to date. The illustrations by Tommy Stubbs are much better than the movie DVD. His illustrations are the reason I have become a bigger Thomas fan.
Sander loved this book. It also has some excellent examples of literary terms. Most importantly it carries a good message. Making a good choice once doesn't mean every choice will always be good.
My Thomas-Obsessed toddler loved this story about helping your friends when they're in trouble. This is also a movie on Netflix/Hulu if your child is more into movies!
