The Dead #3

The Damned

Rate this book
Tombs. Hundreds of them. All lying in concentric rings in the greasy, cold darkness of the cavern. At their very centre, hanging from a burnt and blackened tree. a huge, cracked bell. And under that, The Gate, built from the bones of a thousand murdered souls. Lazarus knew ringing the bell would be very bad. He also knew he had no choice - he needed the kind of help only Hell could give him...The Dead don't just want to return, they want Earth for themselves. And it's Lazarus Stone, Keeper of the Dead, who has to stop them. Trouble is, the Dead are the exact opposite of rotting, stumbling corpses. And they desire one thing to live again. To do that, all they need is a good supply of fresh, warm bodies...Lazarus now knows his mum murdered him, betrayed his dad, and is about to open a portal between worlds that will bring about the end of life as we know it. Trouble is, his best mate has disappeared (again), he still hasn't rescued his dad (but he will), and the only help he has is that of an undead priest (who carries a blunderbuss) and a female angel (who drives a 4x4 and has an alcohol problem). This isn't just about saving the world, this is personal...

I wished there was more…
Overall, the series was fun. I saw a review saying it was kinda like a Darren Shan book. I would say the first book was but afterwards the series takes its own identity. Which is awesome, the action in this series is awesome and the visceral scenes were awesome. But I do feel that series was a bit too fast for its own good. In the story it makes sense why it’s move at such a fast paced but still. If anything else I wished there be more afterwards so we could explore the job of the Keeper and the aftermath of this conflict. Maybe even another villain in the next book. But maybe it’s a good thing maybe there wasn’t need to be more and this was all we needed for the story to be complete. But, for me if there is more in the future, I would love to read it.

Oh how i love a good YA horror! and this is one of the best!

I've now read the whole series, The dead, the dark and the damned, and wow was i impressed!

In this book, we following Lazarus and co. as Hell finally breaks through to earth, and only Lazarus can stop it.

this whole book was full of suspense, it kept me awake at night reading it. The descriptions of the Dead are just as creepy in this book as they ever were, and the story was just fantastic! it's a hard book to review without giving away key plot points that would ruin the book, so I will just say:

amazing book, amazing series, and well worth your time to read it! I loved it and will be reading again and again!

This is the 3rd and final instalment of the Dead trilogy and it is the best by far.

The characters are in depth and likeable. I think Craig has a great sense of humour and I dont know what Lazurus would do without him as his best friend.

Red and Arelle are such interesting characters that I find myself wondering how things started & how they all met. Would love a book on them. :)

A very fast paced book with great descriptive writing throughout, I felt like I was living each scene.

The book was brought to a satisfying end, with the door left open to maybe continue the adventures.

spine tingling, gruesome, tons of gore what more could a YA horror fan ask for! :)

Buy this book. If you don't a strange man from the UK might show up and haunt you. Well he is not that scary, but the book... Stellar!
