John H. Tobe was not a medical doctor and was very critical of what medical doctors do. He was especially critical of the multi-billion dollar cancer industry. He said he wrote this book for people who "seek a non-drug, non-surgical, non-radiation means and method of preventing or defeating cancer. I am suggesting that you give nature a chance."

He maintains that cancer can be “defeated” but not cured, meaning that it will require permanent changes in lifestyle. Drastic changes, in most cases. He recommends a raw vegetarian diet. "Cancer is a disease of faulty feeding." He says that cancer is caused by a nutrient deficiency at the cellular level. A more modern view says it is an oxygen deficiency at the cellular level. But most of this book will never become outdated. I don't agree with him that vegetables are superior to fruits. In the raw state, fruits are much more compatible with the human digestive system. And he rates raw grains above fruits, which makes no sense to me. But a worthwhile discussion nevertheless.

He lists twenty principal causes of cancer in order of his estimation of their importance, and discusses them in their separate chapters. This book is about prevention, not cure, but does discuss various treatment options, both conventional and unconventional. In his principal causes of cancer he includes biopsies, surgeries, drugs, hormones, radiation, etc. No wonder he insists that early diagnosis of cancer usually means early death.

This book will be a revelation to many people; too many fill their lives with carcinogens without realizing it. If you think that milk and meat and peanut butter are good for you, this is must reading! It is well documented and understandable to lay readers. But don't bother to read it if you are not willing to change your lifestyle.
