This book redefined how I approach spirituality. Nothing about it is usual and therein lies one of it's strengths.

In detailing some key experiences on his journey to becoming a shaman (starting at age 7), the author transmits key teachings he received from his teachers. As a prolific dreamer, there are many examples of other-world journeys that illustrate what is taught.
I liked how this book does not seek to fit into some pre-existing frame of spirituality or shamanism.
While not a how-to book, it offers exactly the type of insights one needs to take whatever path one may be on to the next level because it helps one 'get it'. A new syntax, epistemology and contextualisation makes for an engaging read in a very unusual language that takes some getting used to. This turned out to be a plus since it is in re-reading that what was not there before pops out.

I also recommend all Lujan's books since. The latest book which includes practical techniques is Whisperings of the Dragon; Shamanic techniques to awaken your Primal Poweror Shadows in the Twilight: Conversations with a Shaman.

Take it to the next level:
Lujan Matus details seminal events on his path in training this particular style of shamanism. Several complex concepts are discussed. The reader will do well to have some background in the Toltec teachings of the Warrior's path as discribed by Carlos Castaneda, but only so many of these concepts can be re-defined and expanded upon.
Dense book and not easy to read, so only for those who want to go the distance.
Unusual language, but will allow multiple re-readings over the years with each pass yielding more as one develops. Perhaps reading "Awakening the Third Eye" is a better book to start off with.
Highly recommended for those seeking authentic insights into the path of personal freedom.

Reading "The Art of Stalking Parallel Perception" is a riveting and transformational experience. The subject matter is abstract with respect to the frame of reference of what we call the ordinary life. But its message is riveting, relevant, and electrifying.

I really tried to read this book. It took every ounce of detachment and holding back my judgement and I persevered & persevered. But eventually I couldn't take it any longer & gave up.

What a load of hogwash.
