When journalist Laurie Forbes turns up on Beth Ashby's doorstep, minutes after Beth's husband, political high-flier Colin Ashby, has been arrested for murder, neither can even begin to guess the shocking repercussions that have just been triggered in both of their lives. Beth attempts to escape from her shattered life by throwing herself into the kind of reckless high-living that seems destined for disaster, while Laurie finds herself being threatened, terrorized, and even taken prisoner for what she knows. As the dangerous truth draws closer, Laurie realizes that if she is to save Beth from those already preparing to destroy her, she must put her trust in hated rival journalist Elliot Russell and face up to a ghost from the past. Silent Truths takes us on a compelling journey along the dark, decadent halls of power, to the glittering shores of seduction and intrigue, and finally to the terrifying truths behind the silence.

I have put this into the read catagory, however it was never actually finished. This was awfully slow going and really boring. I read about 100 pages and then gave up.
Took a while to finish this book. it was very slow to start off with and really couldn't get into it but I persevered with it and it got better and better.
To begin with I thought the plot was good. But as I continued I thought the book was far too long. It could have been written with half the number of pages. I did finish but can’t say I enjoyed it
A book I didn't want to put down, a love story wrapped up in intrigue, a plot that could be believed, I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn't want it to end.
Susan Lewis novels are always so exciting and she never fails to have me hooked, there is always so much going on in her novels but that's what I love about them, love, crime, death. A tale that kept me on my toes.
The treatment of women in this book is horrendous. It was published in 2001 but reads like something from 1970s. Submissive females accepting and justifying poor treatment from men and only finding their 'power' through having breast enlargement/plastic surgery to increase their appeal to men. I love a trashy read but this was too trashy for anyone with 5 or more brain cells and left a bad taste. The plot essentially was good but towards the end the characters inexplicably got into a sexual frenzy and the last 150 pages are mostly endless sex scenes, in most of which, surprise, women are treated with a lack of respect. Its impressive to make sex scenes both boring and irritating so well done there. Let's never talk about this again and forget it all happened.
A new author to me. Beth Ashby's political advisor husband is arrested for the murder of a young woman. He says he didn't do it, but offers no evidence and doesn't seem to want help or even Beth any more. Two reporters get onto the case and uncover a global financial conspiracy. Meanwhile Beth is about to have a book published under another name and it offers her a chance to get away from her old life, but that puts her in more danger. The reporters have a history and this is resolved as they work closer together. A sharp twist at the end that I had no idea about, made for a very satisfying read.
700 pages was far too much for this story and I'm far too stubborn not to have finished what I started. Perhaps I was more in the mood for a heavier read but the story format was far too basic, the thoughts of the main female character were droll and degrading to woman. The author was attempting to create a strong female character but I found her boring and whiny. I previously have really admired Susan Lewis but this book just didn't grab me
This book was chosen by my book group and I found it a chore to read. I found the underlying story of corruption boring and the main characters either unlikable or irritating. And it was far far too long. That's 11 hours of my life I won't get back.
I really did not like this book at all, it was a chore to finish it. I've enjoyed other books by this author, so was doubly disappointed. The characters did not ring true, and the plot felt like it was written for a movie script
The First novel i read after taking a break for nearly 5 years, and i was gripped from the start. Expert narration and holding the plot until the end makes this book a wonderful read.
I was so disappointed with this book. I have read other books by this author and loved them but this one was so slow and hard going I only finished it because I wouldn't let it beat me!
