O Corpo Desvelado: Contos Eróticos Brasileiros

Rate this book

One hundred years of erotic stories by various national authors. That’s what the collection of Brazilian erotic short stories, "O Corpo Desvelado," organized by researcher Eliane Robert Moraes, promises—and delivers.

Unlike what usually happens in anthologies of this type, the texts are not organized in chronological order but by theme. There are nine sections bringing together stories from authors of different backgrounds, times, and tones, from the more lyrical, like "Viagem aos Seios de Duília" by Aníbal Machado, to the more irreverent, like "Contramão" by Reinaldo Moraes.

The book spans over 500 pages, offering not only depictions of erotic scenarios but also reflections on the role of sex in human life, or on sex itself, as seen in sections like "Da Coisa em Si" and "Do Espírito da Coisa." Meanwhile, the section "Do Que Não Tem Limites" contains the collection's most intense stories, covering topics from mutilation to coprophilia.

Regarding authors, the book includes works by well-established figures in Brazilian literature, such as Hilda Hilst, Nelson Rodrigues, Lygia Fagundes Telles, and Ferreira Gullar, alongside emerging writers like Régis Mikail, Amara Moira, José Falero, and Tobias Carvalho. A rich bibliography and a brief biography of each author allow readers to explore further works, whether erotic or not, within Brazilian literature.

The book is dedicated to Hilda Hilst and Sérgio Sant'Anna, described by the organizer as "supreme pornographers." Sérgio opens and closes the collection, with Part 8 of the story "Dueto," the final story in the book, being one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read, starting with the line: "Love comes and goes, describing unpredictable orbits, like a crazy planet or a wild horse."
