Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007) was an American writer who won awards in three careers—a Broadway playwright, a Hollywood TV and movie screenwriter, and a best-selling novelist.
His TV works spanned a twenty-year period during which he created I Dream of Jeannie (1965-70), Hart to Hart (1979-84), and The Patty Duke Show (1963-66), but it was not until after he turned 50 and began writing best-selling novels such as Master of the Game (1982), The Other Side of Midnight (1973) and Rage of Angels (1980) that he became most famous.
This happened to be my first investigative book read. I have always loved books with a more romantic story line and with Asian biographic background too. Nonetheless, this book has opened up another option for me. At least, in the future, I may want to venture into this type of book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And I find it difficult to put the book down.
Making your way through the world is a tough deed.. Doing it everyday is something everyone does. But the ones who struggle actually realize the tough, ruthless everyday beings you have to face. Well, Jennifer Parker did. And it truly is one of Sheldon's best books. You can read it again and again, you'll still think you dont know what happens at the end...though you actually do...
So I am re-reading old favorites - when I was in middle and high school I LOVED Sidney Sheldon. I am finding out however, many of the old favorites are just not great. I really liked the first half of this book, the main character Jennifer Parker is a strong, independent character especially for 1970! She is a lawyer (also apparently not common in 1970) and at first we read about her career and her early cases which was great. Then the story just turns into more and more cases and no real thread through them. I found I didn't care about all these cases, I just wanted her story. So halfway through I put it down. Also the book summary makes this sound like a love triangle but halfway through, no triangle at all...just Jennifer and a married man and Mafioso who makes appearance here and there...
Well actually I read the Bengali translation of this book a long time ago.Found the book recently. It reminds me how Sheldon was my most favourite writer when I basically started reading. The Best laid plans is actually one of the later books that I've read by him but definitely one of my most favs.
Sheldon is a very fantastic author. So, when you're reading his books, expectations automatically go high. The same thing happened with me, I was looking for some more mystery and excitement. For me, this book had the most complex storyline. I have read many of his books but this one is a bit complicated. There are certain paragraphs that were difficult to perceive. However, The Best Laid Plans is a completely satisfying novel. But this is not as dazzling and thrillers as his other novels.
Epic!!! First of all Why? Why again? Once again I'm left with this bizarre hollow sensation. Why do writers have to kill all our favourite characters? As for the remarks? I was truly mesmerized.. captivating as always, I lived each character!!! It was unfair that Jennifer was left a lone with her misery in the end and lost both lovers... I think She suffered the most.. Adam at-least had a wife and a child and became the President of USA!!! Oh and his bitchy clever wife!! As much as i hate her i would give her the credits for being a genius.... However with that she was stupid down to her core.... If Adam was an angel? Michael was the Lucifer!!! I liked both of them.... :p
Rage of Angels is amazing! I cried after reading a particular portion of the book - maybe in little sobs even!! First time ever (I've never shown emotions while reading a book) :P I surprised myself! I'm on the 55th page of The best laid plans :D
I love this work. As a heroine Jennifer stands strong. Her quick wit and grace is amazing. As a fan of Iago,I can't help but admire Michael.Every fic needs a dashing bad guy.
