Erica S. Perl and Henry Cole team up once again to deliver spot-on humor with their unforgettable chicken character.
In this cheeky (sorry!) sequel to the wildly fun Chicken Butt!, the young jokester and his chicken muse are back, but this time they're trying to trick Mom. She thinks she has caught on to the gag, but as she distractedly does the grocery shopping, she falls victim to a flurry of jokes using homonyms and homophones—words such as "dear" and "deer," and "which" and "witch." Wordplay has never been so much fun.
Like Chicken Butt!, this story encourages children to participate in a call-and-response reading format that reinforces their reading skills.
Praise for Chicken Butt's Back! "Coles’ tickled-pink cartoonish artwork gets right into the mix, the chocolate chip to the cookie dough. The denouement is so merrily explosive that just to imagine the shrieking voices of a read-aloud is mightily cheering.” – Kirkus Reviews
“Cole's kinetic, acrylic and colored pencil cartoons strike the right tone of mild disobedience.” – Publishers Weekly
“Fans of Chicken Butt! are going to love this sequel. This is the kind of book that siblings will beg to read to each other, especially since it’s set up for two voices.” – School Library Journal

When I picked this book up at Barnes and Noble, I knew I would like it because I loved Erica S. Perl's Chicken Butt. Chicken Butt is the perfect little kids joke book because it is exactly their type of humor.
Chicken Butt's Back is, dare I say it, is even more up a young child's humor alley! In this book, the little kid is in the grocery store with his mom, and much to her consternation, he keeps taking the "but" she is using to try and get him to move on from his jokes, and turning them into more butt jokes! HIGH-larious! With all the various animals showing their butts, the chicken with the underwear, and the casual mention of poop, what 2, 3, 4, or 5 year old wouldn't be rolling on the floor in laughter?
This sequel to Chicken Butt will make fans of the first book laugh even more. Reading it out of order may be slightly confusing but you'll pretty much get the concept as you go. This one is sure to be a kids' favorite but may get some eye rolling by adults. Loved the illustrations of the mom throughout the book.
Cute sequel to Chicken Butt. A boy and his mom are in the grocery store and she is not going to play his butt game. But, she gets drawn in when he promises no more and tricks her into saying "Underwear'. Adorable ending to the story when he says "I love you from the bottom of my Tyanasaurus Butt!"
This sequel to Chicken Butt will keep kids laughing. Playing on words such as but/butt and dear/deer, the child in the story is shopping at a grocery store with mom where the buts just keep coming. Cute book.
Anytime you add Butt to a title, the book flies off the shelf! This book deserves a mention because the illustrations and story are hilarious. Super popular with the boys.
My children and I enjoyed this sequel to Chicken Butt, but not as much as we hoped. It was a little harder to follow and not as engaging as the first book. We did like the move to the underwear joke towards the end.
I love, love, love the first Chicken Butt book. This one is kind of funny, but not anywhere near as cute as the first. Hard to follow, particularly for the intended age group.
I think I read this one, as well as the first one, but I don't remember when. I read it again because you can always re-read a funny book. It's just too cute.
Filled with word play on the words but and butt, this follow-up to the original Chicken Butt title is sure to have young readers laughing in glee--and possibly torturing their friends and parents with their jokes. It's amusing the first time around, but the joke wears thin after awhile. As I read, I kept feeling sorry for that long-suffering, infinitely patient mother who has clearly heard all manner of butt, poop jokes before. Still, who can resist word play centered around homonyms and homophones? The acrylic paint and colored pencil illustrations show the glee of a boy intent on sharing jokes with his mom and her growing frustration with their repetitive nature. Mom's comments are in small, black font, and the boy's comments are in large, red font for easy reading aloud. This one is fun, but not necessarily my cup of tea.
A boy and his mom go shopping. Mom warns her son that she will put up with no more Chicken Butt jokes. Nevertheless, the boy manages to engage his mom in a conversation that leads her to say “butt” in every sentence, making the boy crack up laughing.
Didn't think it was possible to get any worse than the first Chicken Butt book(see my review). However, this book managed! So for that it should get some level of praise for being able to out-dumbed its predecessor.
Oh so silly. I KNOW kids will love this much more than me. I certainly can understand why but am so glad I am not stuck in this place where this type of humour is funny. I have a classroom of children who are though! Cute little story.
