Liz was born in Texas and credits a rural upbringing in a houseful of books for her lifelong love of stories. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, she moved to New York and worked various jobs (book clerk, world’s slowest professional typist, substitute teacher) before landing a job in publishing. Since then, she’s made her home in Austin, Portland (Oregon), Ottawa, Montreal, and now Vancouver Island in British Columbia. In her free time, she enjoys playing in local concert bands, watching classic films, and—of course—reading. In addition to her writing career, Liz has worked for two decades as a fiction editor. Under the pen name Liz Freeland, Liz writes the Louise Faulk historical mystery series. She also writes women's fiction as Elizabeth Bass.
on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 I wrote about this book:
What a fun book! Just finished it. To be honest I nearly gave up. No I gave up!! At page.. let me check...79 when I read about a guy standing outside the apartment singing I got so annoyed, sorry but so stupid, I decided to pick another read. Luckily I could not get into 2 of the books i tried to get into and this book was still on my mind, so I decided to give it another try. So glad I did cause I really enjoyed it. Sad it is over cause I wanted to see some more revenge. (Eli to her "girlfriend" Aphrodite) All and all I want to read more by this author. 8.5
I liked the story arcs with Edie and Greta. I liked Danielle in the beginning but not so much by the end, although she did make for a great character. While the story was enjoyable, it was predictable. The characters fit stereotypes of what you'd expect, which was kind of disheartening. I didn't see the camaraderie between the girls really until the very end, but it was great to see it when it happened!
Slow starting regardless that the main characters world is falling apart from page one. Maybe it was all the inner thought about the ex-boyfriend? I felt the book needed a faster pace, after all it is New York. I put it down after the first two chapters but I was glad I came back to it years later. I really think another pass at this before publishing would’ve done it good. The premise was great but the characters needed a little work. I think the author found her stride towards the ending. I found I liked the characters more towards the end.
Okay so I broke the cardinal rule and based a book by the cover. I thought this book was set in Chelsea, England, not Chelsea, New York. Anyway, I still enjoyed the read and learn some important things- always check the lease, if your female and your boyfriend ask you to move in, think about it first, especially if he's not offering to put a ring on it when he's asking you to move in. Just saying, saves headaches when breaking up.
I was stuck reading this because I brought it on vacation. Typical chit lit some points that didnt make sense (set in modern day but no one has a cell phone - that was annoying). Was not horrible but I would not recommend it.
My first by this author and definitely not my last. Enjoyed all the characters, though I still have a coughing fit when I think about what their rent is. Yikes! I would be interested to read a sequel to see how Edie, Greta and Danielle make out in their Chelsea digs.
I was looking for a light, quick read, to cleanse my palate after several horror books in a row. That's what I got with this one. It was a humorous and easily relatable story that I would recommend. 3.5 stars.
Hilarious feel good chick lot =] one of my favourite lines from a novel was in this book "Somewhere in heaven, Bob Fosse was crying" oh I laughed so hard when I read that. Highly recommend =]
I've been reading a lot of new authors, this is another one. I enjoyed this read. The main characters were all very different and their getting to know each other and slow friendship, including frustration with each other made a lot of sense.
I enjoyed this book. However, it didn't go much outside of the typical chick lit lines.
