Rate this book
The explosive growth in new Bible translations has given new concerns to people when they buy a Bible. If scholars disagree on how to translate the original languages how are you to judge? There is now a huge increase in responsibility placed in the hands of the bookstore and consumer. How do you decide which version to use, or when to use it? Robert Thomas helps us find a pathway - he teaches us the principles we need to know in order to assess the problems and strengths of the many Bible versions that are available today and decide their suitability for the tasks we want to use them for.

The difference in Bible translations is a debate that has gone on for many years, but this is a debate that most Christians don't understand or pay attention to. Most Christians choose to read whatever Bible translation their pastor or church leader tells them to. This is not necessarily bad, but it results of understanding for the majority of Christians in the differences between Bible translations. In his book, "How to Choose a Bible Version," Robert Thomas analyzes a variety of Bible translations using several different criteria.
In his book, Thomas attempts to be both academic and practical, and succeeds at both. Educating the reader on what goes into a translation, Thomas is an excellent guide into this mysterious and often confusing field. Thomas also exceeds on being incredibly fair in his representations of various translations. This was an incredibly helpful book and one that I recommend to any believer who is curious as to which translation is best for them.

Ever been confused with all the Bible versions out there? Curious about the history behind a translation? Wonder which one is most accurate or literal? What was the goal of each version? What exactly went into the project of translating the Bible? Look no further! This is the last book you will ever need to read in order to become extremely well informed on the subject.

A very readable survey of the current sweep of English translations of the Bible. A little conservative for my tastes, but relatively comprehensive given its mere 200 pages.
