The townspeople of Glover, North Dakota, had little doubt that was what was happening at the old schoolhouse! They believed Lavender Holland, with her Gypsy clothing, herbal potions and black cat, must be some kind of witch. Wyatt Archer, however, wasn't convinced the eccentric weaver practiced black magic, but from the moment they met, he felt a compelling need to see Lavender again...and again. Maybe the town was right, for Lavender had certainly cast a spell on him.
A sense of belonging, that was all Lavender had ever hoped for, but everyone in town felt she was something best avoided. Everyone except Wyatt Archer. Lavender knew fate had brought Wyatt to her, but just as easily, that same fate could rip them apart...forever.

Lovd this book. First time I read Kathleen Eagle. I absolutely love her. I wasinteresed by the 2nd paragragh. Reading about an native American Indian and a free spirit woman, with a townwith prejustice. Amust read book.
Basically this one boils down to: the heroine didn't feel particularly believable/well-rounded, and she also deserved better than the hero. And basically everyone else in town. She's a kooky vegetarian with a history of heartbreak who decided to come back to her small North Dakota town to build a life (and provide training/employment/emotional support to an assortment of women) and the hero is a wrestling coach with some serious inadequacy issues who really wants to sleep with her and drives his kids too hard. So much of the book was Lavender providing support and guidance to basically everyone else in her life, and Wyatt didn't really come off as any great prize.
I searched long for this book and it was worth it. I really loved it, all the "justesse of ton", the characters : from Lavender Hollan and Wyatt Archer, of Terry, John and Ally. the outcasts of a small town, the building of trust. I loved the story line, its pace, Kathleen Eagle style. for me much more complex and beautifully written than a "common romance book". It is for me, really a great book.
I read it again, and I really loved it. A great story with much more depth than many books I read, dealing with serious topics as prejudice against difference might it be "racial" or in belief or ways of life, drugs, willingness to stand for one's ideals. a little gem.
