Mr and Mrs Grinling are throwing a fancy-dress party to celebrate the lighthouse's 200th birthday and everyone is invited. But when the Grinlings take to the high seas, they get more swashbuckling than they bargained for.

The lighthouse is 200 years old. Fancy dress to celebrate this (pirates). The lighthouse keeper and his wife get taken my pirates and they have to show they are real pirates. And it was their friends planning a pirate experience for them. Children could look at the parts of a boat.
I love Mr. Grinling, he's such a sweet old man. Mrs. Grinling is rather sharp with him sometimes. The whole village holds a costume party because the lighthouse is 200 years old, the theme is pirates! It was a fun story.
This book would be good for reading to a class of key stage two children it is full of adventure and fun.
The illustrations in the book are beautiful with colours blended together to create the ocean and bright colours to create the inside and outside world.
